Yesterday evening I was feeling generous and decided to advertise the following:

/2 I'm fully 5* geared and offering to run three lucky newbies through Snarbolax! Send tell if interested.

Two people responded but one had to leave, and left me with one person. A third person sent a tell with unintelligible garbage, so I ignored him. No one else responded after several more calls, so I left with my one newbie (who kept pushing me to hurry up the entire time) and opened the party so other newbies would hopefully join.

When we got to Basil, he briefly equipped a Vile Striker and swung it before putting it away. Wait, what? What's a "newbie" doing with a 4* weapon? According to him, he "saved up for it". Fat chance that a T1 "newbie" saved up 125,000 crowns for a premade 4* sword.

Halfway through the Gloaming Wildwoods, the person I was running invited/attracted two of his 4*/5* geared friends into the group. I didn't really have a problem with this, until he revealed to them:

"he's [me] giving me something at the end, it's a thing he's doing"

Wait, what? I clearly stated that I was only running you through Snarbolax, not giving you some sort of prize at the end. After telling him so, "oh." was all I got. After beating Snarbolax and reaching Emberlight, he still had the nerve to keep pretending that he was a newbie AND ask me for CE.

There goes my attempt at community building and being nice. Normally I'm pretty cynical about other people in online games (for good reason), and the one time I decide against my better judgement, I get slapped in the face.

Discuss.

The lack of basic empathy and

The lack of basic empathy and level of selfishness amongst some players here is appalling. The level of garbage vomited from the bulk of them has reached such heights as to make me sick. I retch at the sight of these loathsome troglodytes, too blind to see the vile excrement the spew each day. I'm not surprised such horrifying personality is reflected amongst the players within the game as well.

That said, fun game. I'd love to see it go somewhere.

What exactly you were

What exactly you were offering? Paying for tabs? Carrying people on? Whichever it is, thats not how you help new people at the game. If you really want to help those that need help then join random T1 groups on the gate and observe the group for say, 1 floor. Make a comment about the game and ask if they like it and if they are going to keep playing, then you can instantly explain what you want do for them if their feedback is positive. Its obvious that when you use the trade channel you'll get all kinds of scum on you, but i don't really blame them with the current CE <-> CR market.

I do my newbie runs like

I do my newbie runs like this.

1) walk in to the advanced training hall, or hang out at the welcome point in haven

2) watch and offer advice to some of the obviously new noobs

3) Reach 4 people total, and take them down a tier 1 run. paying attention to how they play and how they act in a group

4) Any who show promise I send invites to my guild, and then do runs with them to build them up

I've gotten a fair number of people who are worth playing with this way. Yeah you get annoying people and since your hosting the party, you can always just kick them, but I find that it's an effective way to find new players.

This sounds like an idea with a lot of potential to be fun. It is a pleasure to help genuine newbies who show an interest in learning the ropes. What a shame there are a lot of users who would take advantage of somebody offering such help by pretending to be new. Sorry you hear you got one of the stinkers.

I like jooozek's idea to pick random groups already running newbie levels, but it's a bit of a crap shoot. Credendo's method of identifying promising newbies before making you invitation sounds like a winner. Good signs are questions like "What kind of 2* sword should I go for?" and "Why can't I buy anything from the token vendor?" I guess the problem there might be that players standing around in Haven are more likely to be the ones who have already exhausted their day's supply of energy.

Maybe if the economy wasn't

Maybe if the economy wasn't such trash, there would be less beggars and scam artists. Kind of like how a bad economy in reality leads to crime, desperate people do desperate things.

It's amazing how this game mimics a real economy, and how quickly said economy is heading into disaster.

@novareid don't be so

@novareid
don't be so disappointed :p usually newbies who have even a little bit of sense wouldn't ask willingly for help except if they are totally stuck and can't figure something out.
also, among the new players, there are mostly 3 types : the ones who got in the game at random, and tries to figure it out, the ones who also got random in the game but is so childish that it begs for anything, and lastly the ones who got there because they have friends already playing xD so don't try to invite anyone, you'd get jerks most of the time x) just try to get random parties and help them from behind :p
