I have not once seen a knight wearing a deadly virulisk set. It seems it is being overshadowed by the volcanic salamander, anyone know why? I'm just curious

And has anyone thought of combining a deadly virulisk mask with a volcanic salamander suit? Or would it look stupid? Because I think I'm gonna do that...

Because players preferred

Because players preferred having more Elemental defense for Tier 3.

normal, peircing, poison. Not

normal, peircing, poison. Not useful unless you do tier one but by that time your in T3 and its no longer useful.

Piercing damage resist is

Piercing damage resist is limited only to spikes and the slime AoE, if I'm not mistaken. For that reason, most people opt for a balance of normal, elemental and shadow defense, rather than piercing. When it comes down to PVP, piercing resist might become more valuable, but that's much later on.

oooooooooooooo thats right,

oooooooooooooo thats right, so if the salamander set gives you elemental defense, what does the virulisk set have besides normal defense? Nothing?

Virulisk series gives

Virulisk series gives Piercing, which should become much more useful in a coming update! I sport it often because I like the look over Salamander.

Hm

I was going to get one for jelly kings.
But then decided to switch it to sala for fang of vog charge attacks resist.
And then I decided to switch it for Skolver because I got lazy.

After all of this planning, all I currently have is a Virulisk suit.
And it looks so much better than Deadly that I don't want to upgrade it.
I wear Ancient to JK though. So I don't even have to care about what is going on.

I really like the deadly

I really like the deadly virulisk set, but the thing is I want my knight to have everything fire themed, cause I like fire :D so the salamnder set would go better with my fire weapons, but maybe I could wear something mixed at least, I don't know

Poison and piercing

Poison resist isn't really useful- poison doesn't hinder your movement/charge attack or deal continuous damage like shock, fire and freeze, and if you're low enough on health anyway, odds are you're already boned. Add on top of that the lack of serious threat-level piercing damage, and the Virulisk series is just a waste. Even with the update, there will be better armors that offer piercing defense paired with some other problematic status effect, so the Virulisk series will probably remain in the province of costume armors.

Weird timing....

Strangely enough, they have recently decided to spikey-up some mobs [see Here and Here] so Piercing Defence is finally going to be getting some mileage! =)

Freeze has -always- done damage. If you are not shielded and the freeze around you breaks from time and not from an attack, then you take damage. Pretty much the same as when we freeze monsters except they don't have the same kind of shields. 'course it's rare for a player to actually take freeze damage but it is possible.

It's completely pointless to get deadly virulisk rather than skolver.

Just depends on utility and

Just depends on utility and your play style. I have both v. salamander and d. virulisk sets that I mix for farming jelly levels and JK. The mix of elemental and piercing defense is helpful t1/t2--and the dmg bonus being across weapons rather than just swords. I do switch out to skolver for more serious stuff, though *shrug*

Shrug indeed. The only time

Shrug indeed. The only time you might really need the damage bonus against slimes is when you're facing the Royal Jelly, and then you're most likely using swords anyways.

I wear it, actually. ...though only when I have to fight JK. I'm too lazy to switch most of the rest of the time.

Patito
I wear the suit

for beast and jelly stratum... it's great for jelly stratums in particular

I find it pairs very well with a mad bomber mask that has a piercing UV for bombing (I could see why skolver would win out for sworders)
