I was thinking, since there is apocrean torso and head costumes, an aura, and weapons, we can complete the set with a shield. I have a first try of what the obsidian shield might look like here

I'm guessing the shield will

I'm guessing the shield will have shadow defense and poison resistance? Given the fact that all the Obsidian weapons deal shadow damage and inflict poison.

Also, all of those Obsidian Carbines....

shield stats

yes. it would have shadow defense and poison resistance. but i was also thinking it could have a unique shield bash, like the torto shield, but different, an the apocrean vines appear when you shield bash, so as not to break the tradition of apocrean vines in equippable apocrean gear

I like it enough.

What if it broke in one hit no matter what (tanking one of any hit fully and entirely), then inflicted moderate to strong poison and stun on whichever enemy was unfortunate enough to break it? So like, if a gun puppy shot a bullet at you, you could poison+stun that puppy by tanking the hit. The same would go for Vanaduke's mace, trojan stomps, everything.

The apocrean status isn't a bad idea either though.

im vohtarak, call me by that name

Maybe have it upgrade from the 4*skelly shield, its the only one I can think of that would fit

The poison and shadow thing fit the line

@ Vohtarak

The Savage Tortoise comes from the Jelly line which isn't known for poison or shock resist.
Omega Shell comes from the Drake scale line and it isn't known for normal resist.
Heater shield comes from Cobalt line and it isn't known for elemental or freeze resist

However...

... The obsidian edge is crafted up from a silent nightblade (shadow sword with same attack pattern), the obsidian carbine is crafted from a Blackhawk (shadow gun with the same attack pattern), and the obsidian crusher is crafted from a graviton... thing (shadow bomb with the same attack pattern). Having it be a skelly-line shield does make sense with that pattern.

The tortoshields came off the standard defense lines(jelly > piercing, owlite > elemental, skelly > shadow, plate > normal). Other "special" shields are just that - special. They have no pattern, however the torto-items and the apocrean items do.

As for the actual suggestion up top here, it's not bad. The apocrean grip tentacles could do what they do in that level, but how would they function? Make a circle around the knight (as the torto shield bashes do with stun and knockback?), or send out a line of tentacles in front of the knight so that they "freeze" an enemy in the path of the bash? A couple things to play with here.

It could replace the shield bash altogether and act like a quick shivermist buster that kills your shield perhaps? Freezing things in place at the end of a shield bash sounds tricky to do.

Maybe Three Rings should evolve the function of Shield Bash into a special shield function(that is unique for each shield). For this Obsidian shield, have it release a circle of tentacles similar to the Apocrean Harvester's(as suggested by Fangel probably) around the player(no shield bashing)

My secret hope is that OOO will make Shield Bash into a 'shield ability' and Dash into a modular 'armor ability' (different armor pieces combined for unique combo effects).

'Shield Abilities' have been brought up around the time when bash and dash was released. Maybe they'll do something... but I don't have much confidence that such an update will occur.
