So here's my idea, you might wanna tell me if this is being done already lol.

Cradle had fallen victim to The Swarm, but the knights found that, aside from the power boosts in monsters, it really did nothing else. Knights weren't corrupted, Cradle didn't fall into anarchy, all the monsters weren't even corrupted. For the better part of a year ((9 months)), Intel knights, Recon knights, all the way up to Captain Ozlo himself puzzled over why this had happened. But something else major, something else threatening occurred and demanded the Spiral Order's attention.

The Core Opened.

True, The Architect designed the Core to protect something, but The Order had always thought it was being protected from The Swarm. But, hours before the momentous opening, Recon Knights found an abandoned Gremlin facility, with extremely important information.

The Swarm is still not strong enough to destroy the entity in the Core. King Tinkinzar fears the worst. If the Emberlight gremlins cannot make The Swarm stronger, the Core will kill everything on Cradle. There will be no hope.

Immediately upon receiving this information, a team of the finest Vanguards ((Urcon, Izuri, Eldritch, Omurus, and Aslinth)) was sent to The Core. They were just in time, too. The Core had opened, but the creature had only let out miniscule effects of its influence. The knights forced it shut again, and sealed it by welding metal from the Skylark itself onto the opening. They paid for that effort with their souls, as the influence of the creature had entered Cradle, and had started by corrupting the knights sent to trap it.

Now, these knights, The Core Squad, have vanished. They are on Cradle somewhere, maybe in the Clockworks, maybe on the surface, and they are building their empire. The other influxes of power the creature sent have taken over the Clockworks, totally eradicating all traces of The Swarm. The Shadow Lairs were destroyed, leaving only the Sanctuary. While not all the monsters in the Clockworks have been taken over, every type of monster has been corrupted, and they are much stronger and more violent than when they were corrupted by The Swarm. The Spiral Order has decided that they are now fighting a losing battle, and must leave Cradle as soon as possible.

The Strangers, once sensing the emergence of the beast within the Core, returned to Apocrea, revealing their true existences to the Knights in the process. They may come back in full force to try and take over Cradle at any time.

The gremlins also merit mention. Their plan of using The Swarm to counter The Beast failed, they have accepted the options of escape, or die. A ship large enough to transport a race would be of great value to them, as it seems to be the only thing that it escapes their capabilities to build. They are monitoring the Order's activities, though the Order still does not know where The Great Colony is. Those aside, you are liable to die once you set foot in the Clockworks, which you may have to do at any time to find materials.

The Owlites have returned, and though it seems that the Kats were their demise, the flock of Owlites that were present in Cradle was just that, a flock. A substantially greater amount is now present in the Clockworks, and they have been revealed to harness the very magic The Beast used, though in a less potent form.

You are a knight of the Spiral Order. Your primary objective is searching for materials to make a new ship for escaping Cradle. However, as knights, you will have no allies at all. In my view, knights are humanoid, but still with the equipment used in the game. So there.

or

You are a gremlin. Your mission is to sabotage the knight's attempt to escape Cradle, and find possible trumps to The Beast, whose true nature you still do not know. Naturally you can be of any clan of gremlin, even one of the Crimson Order, but I prefer for that to be for major antagonists, please.

or

You are an Apocrean, since the emergence of The Beast you returned to your homeworld. Not due to being short on power, but to plan, as you have been lying in the shadows waiting to lay claim on the planet, and The Beast, for eons. Now, the time has come. The levels of Apocrean are Harvesters, who capture souls for use, their powers you know already. The next level is the Hierarch, who uses the souls to supply Apocreans with life, and power. Therefore, the more an Apocrean kills and captures, the closer to immortal it becomes. Hierachs can summon weapons of Obsidian, and Obsidian itself, using it in various ways, even for magic.

or

You are an Owlite. Your mission is to decimate the knights and gremlins, the sentient beings on this planet. Once this is achieved, Cradle will be yours for controlling. Robed, Owl-Headed and winged, they stand on long, developed talons. However, arms and hands are also present, which they use to carry their weapons.
The two types of Owlites are the warrior and the enchanter, which carry blades and guns or wands respectively. Naturally, this belies what they do in combat.

Now, should you choose an Owlite, the magic should be within reason. So basically, you start out with maybe one specialty in magic, which is categorized as elemental (earth, wind, FIRE AND AIRR, umm I mean fire and water.), artificial (by which I mean not composed of the natural elements), personal (relating to you) or interpersonal (relating to someone else). Based on the importance of your character you might get more leeway.

The Apocrean magic should always be (somehow) connected to Obsidian. I'll let pretty much most things fly, as long as it's connected to Obsidian.

Gremlins. Not much more to expound on here. You've seen them in the games. The higher up you are however, the better stuff i'll let you have. And frankly, I assumed if anyone picked gremlins, they'd pick either Darkfang or Crimson anyways.

Knights. Do I need to say more? You can be any kind of knight though, if it makes it any clearer.

You also don't HAVE to be a fighter, just making that clear.
***

(I've been typing for a while)

So, as GM, if I feel the story needs to be furthered towards on of the goals, I will loosely control the activities of the clans, and state how it affects speific characters, which it may or may not do. So for example, I say the Knights are weakened. I may have one of the other clans decide to attack them at this point, and then redirect charcters of that clan to attack the Knights.

Also, just like how Kora gives Knights missions in the game, that will happen in this RP, in each clan. It may happen happen a lot, or seldomly, but it will happen. I will have a "Kora" in each clan, (though in the Knights, it literally is Kora). Also, I will have a character in each clan as well, as to what they will all be i'm not sure yet.

Alright, naturally, you need to create an app so I know what's up and if everything's good with your character. It basically is your regular app form, but i'll do one as my next post in case you need clarification.

OOC posts are done in double parentheses, and I may make a discussion thread for strictly OOC posts, but I don't know if this will take off yet lol.

So, let's get to it, if you're interested.
((Seems trivial, but I edited the brackets to parentheses))

@Saucce: For real? Did you put it in Outnumbered? And I hope you get to join in..

For anyone who needs to see what the app should be like, let me do mine.

Name: Ricante

Race: Knight

Age: ((optional)) 18

Description: Tall (6'3") with green eyes, Ricante is also extremely strong, but his muscle is lean, so it gives him a misleading look of being slight, like the wind could blow him away. He's quiet, but enjoys people's company, though he's so moody you might not be able to tell. Works well with others till it starts to go south, and even though he enjoys company, he also enjoys his alone time. Generally seen in his Dragon Scale Helm and

Equipment: Helms- Dragon Scale Helm, Dread Skelly Mask
Armor- Grey Feather Mantle, Dread Skelly Suit, Deadly Virulisk Suit
Shields- Gorgomega, Savage Tortoise, Omegaward
Swords- Acheron, Cold Iron Vanquisher, Fang of Vog
Guns- Gilded Griffin, Sentenza, Argent Peacemaker

Bio: Ricante had been one of the most laid back knights ever since the Skylark crashed. He never saw the point in going back, and when the knights expanded Haven to make it more comfortable for their operations, he stopped delving into the Clockworks, unless it was a mission. Why only missions? He couldn't say no to Kora, after all, they were together since she and Parma were in the same class ((Yup, i'm still on that. If you're from Outnumbered you get it.)). The Clockworks held little challenge for a knight of his skill level, especially as he documented everything he knew about everything in the Clockworks, from the types of monsters to the types of gears. There aren't many things that can stump him while he's below the surface anymore. The Beast, however, came as a shock to him. He delved into the Clockworks to go after Urcon, his brother, and ran into the corrupted monsters, which almost mauled him due to his unpreparedness. He's more motivated to go in and help the Order achieve its objective, but he wants his brother back too.

Misc./Special Abilities: N/A

((@Colray - No prob, I know what you mean, sadly... But I don't see that happening to me for now, so here I am..))
((@Saucce- XD Yup. Like it's probably because I want it to actually play a role. In Outnumbered, I just brought it up as filler really.EDIT: And yes, Izuri and Aslinth are female))

BANANA

Screw it

Name: Archimedes

Race: Knight

Age: 35

Description: Short, shy, and timid. He is a biotech and a bomber, an odd mix.

Equipment: Helms- Bombastic Demo Helm (Accessories- Com Unit, and Binocular Visor)
Armor- Bombastic Demo Suit (Accessories- Bomb Bandolier containing the following- *Nitronome, Graviton Vortex Bomb, and the *Irontech Destroyer
Shields- *Grand Tortoise/Grand Tortofist (I will explain this. I was editing and I realized this would be cool.)
Swords- Tempered Calibur, Furious Flamberge
Guns- *Riftlocker
Bombs- In addition to the bombs above- *Dark Retribution, Voltaic Tempest, *Heavy Deconstructor

Bio: He's one of the few Vanguards who survived the initial crash of the Skylark. Archimedes was mind tackled to the ground all enemies he faced. He thought ahead, and since he completed his assignments so quickly, he had spare time. Archimedes decided to set his mind to work determining everything about the new battle sprite's capabilities. He also enjoyed the research of the different organisms of Cradle. When the Swarm was eradicated, he was one of many (I'm assuming) biotechs set with the task of resurrecting the Swarm. He was romantically involved with Aslinth and is desperate to save her.

Misc./Special Abilities: Incredibly smart, can take apart any bomb and put it back together. If I put a * in front of it, it means that Archimedes has modified it. I will go over details in combat. A while back he bribed an official to allow him to have 6 weapons on him at all times excluding the bombs on his bandolier. He also likes bananas.

This will be interesting, seeing as I know nothing about bombers.

Spreading myself thin? I'll deal with it somehow.

This looks like it has potential. I would have posted sooner, but... Stuff. Stuff which will hopefully not hinder my ability to participate in this. Before that, however... A couple questions:

@Ares-Hsg
So, the Gremlins made the Swarm to combat whatever was in the Core, and the Owlites are sort of like followers of said Core-Creature? Also, is it possible to have Gremlin characters who are allies with the Spiral Order -- Gremlins that have given up on taking out the creature from The Core, and are more focused on uniting with the Knights to just get the heck off of Cradle?
Also, the App format seems good for Knights... But for things like Owlites, gear will be hard to categorize beyond cloaks. I plan on making an Owlite App, so just tell me if I should add/remove anything afterwards.

Also... ALL THE LINKS!

~~~
Name:
Ael Fahr
Race:
Owlite
Age:
20'149
Physical Description: [[I found this quite useful for wing parts, specifically the bones.]]
Ael stands at 7'4" with her legs fully extended, but is usually more at the height of 5'8". She has earthy-brown and ashen-Grey feathers covering her body (with the exception of her legs, of course). Her wings have small wooden rings which curl over her Metacarpus; they have black-colored metal engravings carved into them, which match the color of her wings quite well (as they are predominantly blackish-grey).
Her arms have similar bands on her wrists, but the symbols engraved glow occasionally, emitting a faint grey light.
Her fingers are covered in armor with black gemstones engraved at the top, and gloves are worn over his palms and stop under her bands; her talons have similar armor, but are more suited for close combat than decoration.
Her face is that of a Striped Owl, with deep black eyes.
Equipment:
Ael wears something very similar to this, but with some minor tweaks. The colors are mainly grey and black, with the exception of her belt, and the mid-section of her sleeves, which are a deep brown. Soft plumes reach out under every section, and the back of her gown is open, allowing her wings to stay around her at all times. Instead of a hood, Ael simply covers the bottom half of her face with a Scarf, which is actually an extension of her collar wound around her neck several times; its tightness is limited by a small binding within the scarf-bundle, meaning it cannot get too tight, nor can it unwind itself without Ael (or something else) unbinding it.
Her legs have thin layers of dark-metal surrounding them, but they are more for decoration than anything, and wouldn't stand much damage. Instead, they are also entwined with small symbols, which pulse in time to her wrist-braces.
As for weaponry, Ael uses a long staff with a small gemstone bound within it peak. Small etches line the staff, testament to how long it has been in use; the stone, however, seems to be in pristine condition. The staff itself is made of Stone.
Her gear mainly focuses on Normal-Damage resistance, with secondary Elemental Damage resistance (sort of like a minor form of Volcanic Plate gear). Her Staff causes only Normal Damage, due to the magic it specializes in, along with the material used to make it. For the most part, however, she wouldn't approach an enemy to smack it around with her staff. The damage it deals physically is comparable to a semi-heated Winmillion.
Personality:
Ael is extremely quiet. Like... Really, really quiet. That isn't to say that she doesn't have things to say, just that she often keeps her words back for whatever reason. Still, she likes being with others, and has a great deal of respect for those who show courage in combat. Despite her job in the flock (see Bio), Ael actually cares very deeply for wildlife, and often does a silent prayer for her prey's journey in the afterlife once it is finished off; this compassion also extends to more intelectual beings, like Knights and Gremlins, but Ael would not go out of her way to make friends with such creatures... Unless they proved harmless, and there was nothing to gain for the Flock by killing them.
Bio:
Ael has been one of the scavengers of her flock for as long as she can remember. Due to her affinity with Earth Magic, she was able to find and bind prey with ease, allowing for easy dispatching from her fellow Owlites. Now, with the Core's influence present on Cradle, her small flock soon gathered with many other Owlites, and they began expanding their reach over other denizens of Cradle (i.e. Knights and Gremlins). While not formidable alone, Ael is an expert trap-maker, and is very proficient when it comes to Earth magic, especially that involving Stones, or simply the ground itself.
[[Apologies for making this short, but I'm not sure how far I could stretch a backstory without making changes to Owlites as a whole -- this much should be sufficient without restraining any plot-points intended to surround the Owlites.]]
Misc./Special Abilities:
  • Elemental Magic: Specifically, Earth Magic (that involves Stones, the Ground, and partially, Plants). The symbols on her gear allow for quick-casting of spells with this element, with little to no expense to the concentration required to cast them.
  • Night-Vision: As an Owlite, Ael has enhanced Night-Vision [[Yay, Owl heads!]]
  • Tracking-Training: Due to Ael's upbringing, she is an expert at hunting -- mainly for wild animals (like Wolvers), but her training would also work for other creatures.
~~~

Edit:
Added in Age, as well as Gear Resistances. Also, another question:

@Ares-Hsg
What damage-type would Earth magic have? Like... Manipulating the earth, as in taking pre-existing stones and causing them to fly at your opponents?

@Saucce- You're Accepted, and how'd you guess the resurrect the Swarm thing? It was gonna be a secret sub-plot.. Well we can still do it like that anyway so no worries.

@Ember-Break: First, answers. Yes to the Gremlins creating The Swarm to combat The Beast. Yes to The Owlites being followers of it. As for gremlins with the Spiral Order, sure, there are already Punch and Vise after all, and that other one in the lab. They might want to wear something distinctive though, just saying.

Owlite's age: A young Owlite is from 1-15500. Young Adults, 15500-25500. Adults are from 25500-50000. Old Owlites, which have restricted physical capabilities, but enhance magical ones, are from 50000-75000. Then, you fly to the big birdcage in the sky. As stated before, age enhances magic, and also youth enhances physicality. Not that a young Owlite won't have strong magic, it just won't be as strong as an elder.

Your app is on point tho, so Accepted

In general now:
Owlite Equipment- Not the weapons. The armor is generally cloak, and anything else you can fit onto a tall bird with arms. Just use your imagination.

Apocreans- Harvesters wear Obsidian lined cloaks. That's more protective than it sounds. Hierarchs wear light armor of pure Obsidian.

Gremlins- Standard clan gear. The only thing I really want variation in here may be the weapons.

When I come back i'll post mine for these three apps. But feel free to submit before.

EDIT:

So, before I start, I realized the gremlins, had nothing really special about them, at least in my eyes. So, all Gremlins, as creators of the Swarm, can go "Swarm-Mode" when they receive a power boost from an internal Swarm seed. While it dramatically increases, strength, durability and speed, it only lasts 3 minutes. Also Swarm power will not make a difference against anything corrupted by The Beast, unless the Swarm is somehow made stronger. Menders cannot go Swarm mode, but can control Swarm creatures, and shoot Swarm balls ((#Saucce)) with their wands.

Name: Diruoer (pronounced Die-roar)

Race: Gremlin

Age: 47 ((Double human/knight years, they live up to 200))

Description: Diruoer's brown fur and trademark purple glasses immediately convey her Darkfang clan status. She is regular height for a gremlin (5'0"-5'3"), and always seems to be snarling. Her breath is also extremely bad, especially for a gremlin's. Intelligent, but immature and impatient, rushes headfirst into things.

Equipment: Darkfang Shield, modified to protect somewhat against shadow damage.
Standard issue Gremlin armor, which protects against mainly Elemental damage.
Two Thwack Hammers

Bio: Diruoer was born to an Ironclaw father, but a Darkfang mother, and was split from her father violently at the age of 10 when the knights attacked a Deconstruction Zone they were in. Since then, she has sworn revenge on the violent creatures. She helped create The Swarm along with leading gremlin scientists at the age of 22 but did not know of its purpose, which was to slay The Beast. When she saw that Knights could handle, and indeed, slay the Swarm infested creatures, she ingested an abnormally potent Swarm Source, which can power he for up to 10 minutes, and give up to almost twice the normal boost. However, as she was about to embark on her mission to slay as many knights as she could, for the sake of pettiness, The Beast ruptured The Core. King Tinkinzar declared a state of emergency and met with The Crimson Order. Right now, she is waiting for an official state of affairs, besides the plan to stop the knights from leaving the planet.

Misc./Special Abilities: Always eating breathmints. Abnormally large Swarm powerup. Extremely good with biological matter, especially considering she's a gremlin.

__________

Name: Ahktomb Sireris

Race: Apocrean

Age: 70000 ((Same age pattern as Owlites))

Description: Has a grey, wrinkled face, which is in stark contrast to his laser red eyes. No other feature is discernible on his face. Usually most just see his eyes, however, as he almost always has his hood covering his head, and casting a shadow on his face. Stands at a towering 7 feet, and is also very slender, but has incredible strength. Always somber, and thinks hard before he says or does anything. He is extremely cooperative and although one may not see it in him, he is a nice Apocrean. However, he is merciless in battle.

Equipment: Multiple daggers of Obsidian
Obsidian Carbine
Standard Hierarch Armor
Gorgomega

Bio: Ahktomb was one of the original Hierarchs. It was his idea to have the Strangers present in Haven, as he managed to predict the crash of the Skylark. That's right, Haven was supposed to be a trap. Unfortunately, the Apocrean council did not see fit for them to attack before now, as their numbers had been whittled down due to a plague that ravaged Apocrea. With the emergence of The Beast and the return of the Owlites, Ahktomb and the Apocreans found this a perfect time for all Apocreans to wait for all their sentient opponents to weaken themselves, then deliver the final blows.

Misc/Special Abilities: Ahktomb has a necklace of pure Obsidian, which is extremely rare, even in Apocrea, which boosts his abilities.

______

Name: Orion Deadalus

Race: Owlite

Age: 14000

Description: Feathers of a snowy white, the second thing you notice about Orion is his blue crystal balls he calls eyes. Only blue, and they look like the colour is swirling through them. If you look into them too deeply, you'll feel drowsy, and in cases of the weaker mind, hypnotised. He is incredibly social and active, and the only time he's serious is if one of his friends or relatives has died. Even then, it's only for like 5 minutes. He is also extremely intelligent, especially considering his youth.

Equipment:
Dark green robe, protects against piercing damage, elements and the shadows, so there is nothing extremely effective against him.

Spear. The spear is about 5 feet in length, with a sharp, piercing, enchanted tip. The tip causes those hit severely enough by it to go into
a stupor for a minute, but by that time he's already killed them.

Multiple Fillet Knives, with handles designed to keep the throw steady, and blades that cut deep and are serrated all around, causing more
damage each cut.

Hands- His hands are strong enough to crush the metal making up the Clockwork gears, but regularly, well he can tear
apart a group of Lumbers.

Bio: Orion was the first warrior in his family, who were a long line of enchanters. You'd think that would make it a little awkward, but his parents enchanted a spear for him, and said "Good Hunting." When the Owlites were in the Core, after killing the Alpha Squad (Orion had helped), they bided their time. Orion was taught the immediate history of the race. While the Gremlins were a technical race, the Owlites were the more knowledgeable. The Gremlins eventually began to take this as oppression, and feared the Owlites would take over. So, when Orion was 5, he saw the Gremlins trap each Owlite into a metal shell, seemingly to die, until he saw that there was a whole planet's worth of life in the shell. However, one of these life forms was The Beast, which evidently was a problem of the Gremlins, until they tricked it into the Core. So they herded Owlites into the Core to be hunted by this Beast. Instead, the Beast transferred a bit of its power to each of them, and they waited, and in Orion's case, trained everyday, till the day the Core would grow old, and weak enough to be broken.

Psychnade's picture
Psychnade
Name: Vetus Deus Race:

Name: Vetus Deus

Race: Apocrean Hierarch

Age: 72,671

Description: An imposing 7 feet and 6 inches, Vetus doesn't really have a face, a more accurate term would be a flickering black mass with up to four purple points of light in it at once, crowned by a hood ringed with an obsidian crown. His arms(Which only show hen he's casting magic or is has someone in a death grip by their head or face) are smooth, disconnected, sharp pieces of obsidian bound together by his magic. Vetus' fingers are more of pointy shards of floating obsidian than anything else. His body is covered by a cloak that somehow seems to be darker than black, but still just as protective as obsidian armor.

Equipment:

-A Sudaruska in the style of an Obsidian Edge

Bio: One of the oldest Apocreans in existence, Vetus stopped behaving like a living, emotional creature some time ago, and started to operate more like a machine. And he isn't called "Vetus Deus" just because its his name. He may be old, but with his age and rank comes power. Terrible, fearsome power. Vetus is cold, and disconnected most of the time. When Vetus fights, however, the only thing disconnected will be your spine.

Misc/Special Abilities:
-As a hierarch, he has an extensive knowledge of magic, like:
-Short range teleportation
-Telekinesis
-Puppeteering of the dead

-Other magical powers include:
-Firing blasts of energy from his hands(pretty standard)
-Abnormal endurance

Well... (I start too many posts this way)

Name: Cerick (Ser-ICK) Darkfeather

Race: Owlite

Age: 15,500

Description: Black feathers, white beak, head looks like this: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lngnr4UQr31qchhf0.jpg . Very closed off and secretive. Not much is known about him. Cerick is 7'6, very tall for an Owlite. Is missing his wings, but instead has long black tentacles with leaf-shaped masses at the ends. These leaf-shaped masses have spikes coming off of them

Equipment: Robe that looks like this with high resistance to all types of damage: http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs36/f/2008/261/f/9/Exiled_Robe_Design_Final_...

A necklace that looks like this that allows Cerick to use his magics to shape-shift: http://th08.deviantart.net/fs43/PRE/f/2009/131/3/e/Silver_Viking_Wire_Ne...

Bio: Cerick was one of the first Owlites to learn the powers of shape-shifting. When he encountered The Beast, It knew that something was unique about Cerick. He was missing his wings, for starters. And even though he was an enchanter, he enjoyed using his own beak to land the final blow in a battle. The Beast liked this one, he liked him very much. So The Beast decided to give Cerick something special. The Beast gave Cerick his necklace. The necklace allows Cerick to utilize different forms for different purposes. At the moment, Cerick only has two different forms. If its ok with you Ares-Hsg, can he be able to gain other forms?

Misc. /Special Abilities: Cerick has two different forms for now. They are:

Dragon form: Cerick can fly, breath fire, and claw in this form, but it only lasts for 2 hours. It looks like this: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/358/d/3/small_dragon7b_by_s_ta_s-...

Displacer Beast form: Cerick can teleport, claw, and tentacle spike in this form. It looks like this: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/forgottenrealms/images/3/36/Monster_...

Minimum reached

((Well first off, Psychnade and Snakey-One are Accepted .

Secondly, seeing as we now have at least two for each group, except the Gremlins, (which i'll admit, I kind of expected that, hopefully it picks up) we can actually start now, I had planned to start tonight regardless though. So now, all OOC posts are made in ((these)).

BEGIN

Ricante sat on the steps around the fountain in the Town Square, lazing about. His very body language oozed that he wasn't about to move for anyone, especially if the person was him. So, naturally, he was a little irritated when he either had to move, or get landed on by a clumsy knight that tripped over his own feet. Fluidly and swiftly rising to his feet, he caught the falling knight with his right foot, and rolled his ankle, throwing the knight upwards. Looking him in the eye he said,

"Next time, I'm going to let you fall," with a sharp edge of menace that gave his words the cutting effect he was going for. Then, he broke into a wide grin and slapped the knight heartily on the back, in a playful manner, but it knocked the wind out of the poor Squire.

"Off you go," he said cheerily.

Bemused, the clumsy knight shuffled off, and an expression of bitter distaste clouded Ricante's features.

"Couldn't even say thanks. Kids these days," he muttered.

{Aren't they just ghastly? Well I'm here to say thanks in advance} a familiar voice buzzed from the Com Unit.

Smiling, Ricante pulled up the video feed, and Kora, in all her projected glory appeared before him.

"I know you just saw me, but a regular girl might not relish the opportunity to send her romantic affiliation, as you so eloquently put it, into the Clockworks so regularly," he replied, winking at the projection.

{Wish I didn't have to, but at this point you have the most experience with the monsters corrupted by The Beast, and we can't risk anything. What we're sending you for might prove to be too valuable for us to lose.} she replied.

"What is it?"

{We found what may be tearium, or at the very least something incredibly similar, in an Undead level. All the monsters there were corrupted, and not enough knights have been briefed on how to deal with the upgraded strength and abilities of the creatures. We need you to get the sample, of which i'm sending you the coordinates right now, and bring it back to the Lab.} came the briefing.

Grunting and stretching, Ricante said,

"Shouldn't be too hard then, it's not that deep down, at least. Nice warmup for a further descent."

{There's noone down there, Ricante. Please, take my word for it. When it's time, i'll help you look as best as I can, but for right now, focus. Find it and come back, please.} The unseen "To me" could be heard in her voice.

His jaw set stiffly, Ricante stiffly nodded.

"I'll see you soon," he said gently, and terminated the link.

He walked towards the Arcade, careful to avoid any more clumsy knights. This time, they wouldn't be received so well.

Isn't tearium the Skylark's power source?

((How would I start action? Also, we are using randomizers here correct? Thanks!))

"DAMMIT KID!" yelled Archimedes. A rather tall teenage trash collector towered/cowered over him in fear of the feisty biotech. "CAN'T YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MY PROJECTS AND THE GARBAGE PEOPLE LEAVE AROUND THE OFFICE?" He screeched, the noise echoing over Haven, maybe even hearable to the Apocreans in their realm. In this case, the garbage boy had thrown out a small device Archimede had been tinkering with.

"I-I'm sorry sir." said the teen, meekly.

"DAMN RIGHT YOU'RE SORRY! THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS WEEK!" Archimedes spit.

The boy went to retrieve the device from his bag, and it came out covered in.... nothing! Archimedes grinned a great smile, and handed the kid 5 crowns.

"Uhh... why are you paying me?" Asked the boy.

"Because for once, it didn't come out covered in wolver meat!" He said, turning around and heading to his worktable. Atop it, he had left his goggles and a couple of his soon to be finished Sonic Nitronome Grenades (Essentially flashbangs). He pulled out a screwdriver, and got to work, loosening a module here, replicating this and that 3/4 of a foot smaller, and moving around wires. Suddenly, Archimedes' com unit buzzed

Kora typed a few commands, and connected to the Com Unit of the volatile, to say the least, Biotech. What was his name? Archimedes! Now there was a knight who could rival Hahn in abrasiveness.

{Biotech Archimedes, you are required to meet with Lieutenant Feron in the Garrison. This meeting regards two objectives your unit of knights will be required to shift your focus to. The meeting is in an hour.}

Diruoer had finally received her first official assignment, and to say she was excited was an understatement. You could sense it even in her breath, which didn't smell like something crawled in her mouth to decompose for once. It was safe to say that it didn't happen everyday. Her mission? To retrieve some Aline that an Ironclaw troop had dropped in an Undead floor.

Grabbing her Thwack Hammers off her bed, she strode out of her quarters confidently, telling anyone who would listen, and bear the smell, that,

"I got a mission!"

Eventually, she made it to the elevator into the Clockworks. ((Naturally, the gremlins have their own elevator)) Pressing the button, she started on her way down. Ironically, after all the hype she had built into the mission, once she had embarked on it, she stopped thinking about it. Instead, she was thinking of the possibility of a knight being there. She dispelled the worries from her head with a shake, saying,

"Then I start my revenge early."

Assignments.

Feron turned around to the sound of a new voice. It had been a slow day, the only assignment given out was Ricante's and Kora.. as usual.. Had handled Ricante's assignment. So a change in pace, no matter how slight, was welcome.

"Ah, Biotech Archimedes, and right on time. I know you're not one to waste time, so let's get to it. I do hope you're well, however, as you will need to be." He started.

Feron took a deep breath, and launched into the briefing.

"Now as you are aware, the Spiral Order has declared our primary focus to once again be leaving the planet. But even the Order admits that it is a wildly optimistic plan. What we find more realistic is combating the forces of The Beast. Our only hope of combating The Beast itself, may be finding a way to power up and control the monsters of the Clockworks. Or at the very least powering up our Knights."

Feron paused.

"In other words, we need an improved Swarm. Near Emberlight, is an abandoned Gremlin factory. It is believed to contain the blueprints for The Swarm. Also, which is primarily where you need your Biotech inclinations, we need you to determine if the monsters influenced by The Beast have had more major changes than we have anticipated. If you do not run into any during your search, then so be it. But those you do run into, document the changes. You may bring a team, but where you'd find Knights already fully prepped of our new situation I wouldn't know."

Another pause, then,

"That is all, you are dismissed, and best of luck to you."

((@ Ember-Break: Well, didn't actually learn anything at school today so you fulfilled my quota for the day actually. XD But seriously I had no idea, I even went and read up on the difference...

Also, I was in the middle of considering what they hunted myself. Ok, so here we are. They're meat eaters, but they were trapped in the Core with no food, just space for them and The Beast to move around and a lot of metal. However, what Gremlins didn't know about The Beast when they trapped it in there, was that it could go millenia (it's been around for a WHILE) without eating. So when The Beast exerted its influence on the Owlites, they could ignore bodily needs and functions. So no nutrition, no growth, no excretion, nothing. Just a form of stasis while still being conscious. However they do have to eat now, of course.

I consider Owlites elemental creatures, so anything Owlite based causes elemental damage, unless it's something like Ael's staff. In the case of Orion's knives and spear, it's primarily elemental with an addition of piercing. All Owlite magic is considered elemental, except the artificial (I need a better name for that) which can vary, depending on what you're doing. Oh and the Tracking Cylinder is good, could have a lot of uses for that. I'm gonna make it standard issue for Owlites in the field, ok?))

Apocrea. Its Obsidian skies and lands had never been so populated, even before The Plague. But, there was a shortage of power, as you could see in the dullness of the Obsidian, which in an attempt to keep its Apocreans healthy, transferred some of its energy force to its residents. It was a form of Commensalism, as the Apocreans had a million and one benefits gained from Obsidian, but it gained nothing from them, but wasn't harmed either. After all, if the Apocreans were too starved of energy, they would die, returning the energy to the Obsidian, which would shine as brightly as ever.

Ahktomb found this a pressing issue, and so did the rest of the council. Therefore, he, and the rest of the council found it necessary to send Apocreans into Cradle once more. He relayed this onto a page, and sent it to another Hierarch, Vetus. The message said:

Vetus. The Council and I have found it necessary for Apocreans to enter Cradle once again. We have requested that you and 10 other Apocreans return to the Clockworks and claim souls for the Apocreans. Souls can also be pledged to the Apocrean cause, as it is advisable to have as many Apocreans as we can to combat the other sentient beings on the planet for its control. Overtime, more Apocreans will be transported to you, so it would be advisable to estblish a base there. You will be the first to receive any change in instructions from The Council.

Ahktomb laid down to rest. There was much planning to be done, and soon the time for rest would be over.

Diruoer had not expected this type of resistance. The Gremlin Games were the most grueling thing she had ever went through, where all gremlins involved used shadow weapons. This came in at a close second. Naturally, the Undead monsters were still dealing shadow damage, so there was that, and the fact that they were so much stronger and faster than before.

Narrowly dodging the breath of a Zombie, she threw her Thwack Hammer into the Zombie's mouth. Choking on its own dust (at least, presumably), it doubled over. Diruoer took the chance, and ran towards the Zombie, Hammer raised high...

And was hit to the side by another Zombie who had decided to enter the fray. Luckily for her, it hit the shield, so she wasn't that much more damaged by it. Diruoer was exhausted already, evidenced in the sweaty slickness of her brown fur. Cursing, she realized why Gremlins usually traveled in hordes. But, this was her first mission. She wouldn't let something like being outnumbered and overpowered stop her from at least reaching the Aline. She stood up and turned to the Zombies, who were taking in a deep breath, seemingly rubber-skeletoned at the moment.

I guess I'll do a thing.

'They should be arriving soon...'

Ael flew down onto a nearby tree overlooking a small valley, where a group of Lumbars lumbered [[Yes, I made that pun.]] forward; they were in the middle of a relocation -- or... Migration, considering their numbers. The current area was quite desolate: a small desert with barren trees, and even more barren food supplies. The Lumbars had noticed this days ago, when Ael started following them. Despite being partial creations of the Gremlins, devoid of feeling, they had managed to gain the intelligence to see that they stuck out like a sore thumb here and should move to an area with more foliage. This gaining of intellect wasn't that much of a surprise, however. Ever since the The Beast's partial release and re-sealing, all "monsters" on cradle gained a new edge.

'Well, that's... What we've been told,' the adult Owlite made a short sigh. The elders told them that the beasts on Cradle were not always as strong as they were now, but their sudden gain in strength and intellect was The Beast's gift to make "cleansing cradle" easier. But the fact that she would have to hunt prey that was stronger than normal wasn't exactly the kind of gift she was looking forward to receiving.

Still, the "intelligent" part was useful. It appeared that the Lumbar's instincts with finding more lush areas were quite reliable -- like autonomous food-trackers. This wasn't the first time she had followed Lumbars, either.

"Their intuition was dependable, albeit slow" was what she had told the Elders when they had asked about her tracking-technique several days prior. The Lumbars would never be able to leave this specific depth, of course; Lumbars didn't have the privilege of being able to fly between the separated land-forms like the Owlites did. Still, they would wait near the closest elevator when lush land was above or below their depth. What they did after discovering they could not leave their depth made no real difference to Ael. They could sit in from of the elevator for days, partially hidden, or they could migrate to another potential elevator. Ael wouldn't be with the group of Lumbars to witness them doing such things after they had found a more rich land.

The Lumbars started stopping, focusing intently on the hum of the Elevator in front of them.

Ael looked up, and focused her eyes on the land above. It was still far off, but a deeper forest could definitely be seen, considering the dark leaves of the area. A deep woodlands, perhaps?

Ael reached into a long pouch she had strapped to her belt, and pulled out a small cylinder. Her objective today wasn't to hunt in the area she'd found, but rather to record its location for more hunters to assist one another in gaining food. She fiddled with the object for a short while, until it let out a short burst of light, resulting in a small rune being placed on the tree she was perched upon. The rune then vanished within the bark.

The cylinder started shifting in her grasp, and humming slowly. This was normal, of course. The object she held in her hands was meant to guide its user to a point plotted via a certain Rune. In this way, you could have several runes, and simply adjust the magic impulse of the cylinder to detect said runes. The one she held in her hand could only plot three points, but that was more than enough to label the shortest path to her position, as well as the lookout to her discovery. To test that it was in working order, Ael flew back a bit from the tree; resulting in an arrow forming on the cylinder's surface, indicating the direction of the tree -- as well as the woods above.

'Everything seems to be in working order... Now, I suppose it's time to head back to the rest of the group.' Ael placed the tracking cylinder in her pouch, and took off to the flock.

---------------

[[Seeing as Owlites were in the Core with The Beast, what sort of prey were they hunting in there? Were the animals just like the ones outside? Or perhaps different? I also added in the Tracking Cylinder. I hope that's alright -- I can revise and/or remove it if necessary.

Also, the "brackets" you want OOC to be done in are actually ((Parentheses)), not [[Brackets]]. Huehuehue.]]

A smooth hand of obsidian slid through the knight's flesh like a boat slicing through water. The knight spat up blood, his small intestine punctured by a shard of black stone.

>This one is unimportant.

>His soul is mine to keep.

>His comrade though, has something new,

>A secret that will make all weep.

Vetus pulled his hand out of the knight's stomach, and darted forward, no more than a shadow flitting by in the dark. His quarry was up ahead, and had a certain piece of information he needed. Tearium had been found somewhere in an Undead level in he Clockworks, and this knight knew where. And if the knights knew where the tearium was, they'd send people there to get it. People means more souls for the legion. Obtaining more tearium and souls would help the Apocreans understand The Beast and its power better, the wanted end result to have control over The Beast's power and then, Cradle.

Vetus snatched the knight off his feet, and dropped him back on the ground, hard.

"Aghh..." The knight moaned in pain.

Vetus landed in front of him with a thud, and leaned in close. His obsidian hand coiled around the knight's chin, the points making small punctures in his skin. Blood flowed down the smooth, obsidian fingers.

Where is the tearium, worm.

"The tearium is on Tier 3, t-the Graveyard place! Just-"

The knight was stifled as Vetus gripped him by the face, lifted him up into he air, and violently slammed him down. He was silent now.

Ricante had taken a while to get to Emberlight, due to the elevator malfunctioning. Now he was on a self-imposed efficiency drive.

[Stupid Gremlins messed with the elevator.] he thought, understandably peeved.

The Undead had pretty much all been violent, and much stronger. All he had seen at this point were Zombies, Kats and Phantoms, but it was enough for him. Every hit hurt pretty much the same, which was A LOT. Zombies and Kats now spit globs of some unidentifiable substance, which dissolved quickly. But if it caught you...

[Globs most likely concentrated toxins. Extremely corrosive, even to Undeads.] Ricante noted as he watched the Kat dissolve into nothing, shrieking and wailing agonizingly.

And almost got caught unaware by a Phantom. Ricante quickly parried the Phantom's strike with his Fang Of Vog. The Phantom flipped backwards, and opened its palm. Black orbs fired at him extremely swiftly, and hit him in the arms, and his stomach.

[Well, that's new. So noted.] Ricante thought, a little overwhelmed with the uncertainty of his situation.

Dodging three globs spat by the same Zombie, he fired three quick shots at it from his Argent Peacemaker, presumably killing it. Turning to the Phantom, which was bigger and seemingly had some boosted degree of sentience to boot. That didn't stop Ricante from taking it apart. First, he smacked the Phantom with the flat part of his CIV. Then he stuck the sword into the Phantom's chest, and drove it through with his foot. Next, the beheading. Drawing his Fang of Vog, he made several quick strikes at the Phantom's neck. After the third, the Phantom reverted to its orb form. Satisfied, Ricante picked up his sword and turned around.

He raised his shield just in time to block a strike from the very same Zombie he had struck down.

[What was it with these things now?] Ricante wondered. However, the tearium, or whatever it was, was tantalizingly close, so Ricante reasoned if this Zombie wanted to have a little fun, he could afford it. At the Zombie's expense. He grinned.

Orion was bored. You might think after being trapped in a metal ball with his flock and an all-powerful Beast, Orion would be active just at the sight of trees, or even a blade of grass. Not so much. Orion wanted to be out in the open, flying the night skies with his friends, hunting actual prey, killing actual Gremlins. At that, his thought process turned sour a bit. He was taught the reason why they were trapped by the Gremlins, but did the gremlins really feel the same way today? They might even propose a truce. But the Elders would never accept a truce. The Owlites were peaceful, until crossed, then all ties were officially cut, never to be knotted back together. This war wouldn't be over until the Gremlins were their slaves, with the other sentient tribes thrown in as well.

The Knights. They were a relatively new wrinkle. Some of the better magicians had seen the new arrivals, but could not tell their purpose. For all the Owlites knew, they were a babaric group set on taking over Cradle. They had already established a base, after all. But not on the Owlites watch. Cradle would not fall to the unworthy, uncleansed, uneducated masses. Cradle would belong to the strong, intelligent and wise.

Orion stretched, and was finally given the ok from his parents to go out. His weapons already packed, he didn't waste time finding his way to the door. He soared out the window, and through the elevator from Candlestick Keep.

"Let's see if we can find any knights," he cooed.

Ricante shot the Zombie with his Argent Peacemaker a couple times, spinning it around, and the Zombie stopped with its back turned to Ricante.

"Big mistake," Ricante said. With a small grunt of effort, Ricante set his CIV on his shield so that the blade pointed forward, and shield bashed the Zombie.

The Zombie fell, but shook it off and got up.

"Wha-?" Ricante had no time to wonder as the Zombie was using its Breath in an attempt to stun Ricante, who quickly shielded. The Zombie gave a loud bellow of frustration.

"There, there big guy, you're not the only one I have that eff- the #$%^ are you doing?" Ricante said.

I'm still confused, but i can do it!

((I'm gonna have to make up the beast families capabilities. Also, is this like Outnumbered where you can retrieve bombs?))

Archimedes disliked the woods. Especially Beast infected beasts. He remembered back to the days he had aspired of studies of the Snarbolax. Now, he had to kill them. He was currently running his rigadoon through a completely invisible enemy. As it died, it revealed itself to be a chromalisk.

[Well that's interesting] he thought to himself. Suddenly, a alpha wolver rushed at him. Archimedes quickly threw the first of his Sonic Nitronome Grenades and.... success! A cloud of smoke erupted, as well as a small localized explosion. He snatched it off the ground, and withdrew the small device from his pocket. [I hope this works] he thought. As the clearly damaged alpha wolver jumped out of the cloud of smoke, he pressed a small button on the device. Instantly, a force bubble was erected around the wolver.

"YUSS!" Archimedes yelled, in a fist pump. He pressed another button, and the wolver was almost instantly incinerated. Well.... I'd say set on fire. This part of the device... didn't go so well. A small stream of flame had come out. The wolver was confused. "VOG DAMMIT" He screeched. He pressed another button, and the wolver was stuck in the force bubble until it ran out of energy. Archimedes took out a small notebook and wrote about these beasts newest abilities. The facility was almost in view, too!

((@Saucce: You're surrounded by a circle of beasts. 12 wolvers, 3 Alpha Wolvers, and 5 Chromalisks. You don't have to start your post like that, you can have Archimedes make it to the facility first, but he should be surrounded before he goes in.

The Wolvers are now bigger, almost twice the size of a regular Alpha Wolver. They also have two rows of teeth. Their strength and speed has improved. Also, they have a cloaking mechanism, but unlike Chromalisks that turn invisible, they blend in with the colours behind them. They won't always do it though.

Alpha Wolvers have the same new abilties, with the added ability of a 'Sonic Howl', which confuses its prey for 10 seconds. Try not to get hit by them.

Chromalisks are also bigger, with their tongue being able to pull down a Lumber. Also, their tail has added dexterity, and can wrap around and pull things to them, or slam them down.

They all have the same glowing white eyes.

You were facing the regular monsters before. These are the real things. Also, yea you can retrieve bombs.))

Wizarc prepared for two more messages. One to Ael Fahr, and another to Orion, which hopefully wouldn't interfere with his parents' wishes, but, there was no arguing with the council in these times.

First, to Ael. Focusing, he found her in the Clockworks.

Ael. The council has requested you to go on a surface mission. We do not know the location of the Great Colony, which is a hindrance in our planning. Therefore you have been asked to locate The Great Colony of gremlins. This is strictly a reconnaissance mission, do not engage any Gremlins unless you have to. Also, be warned that all the monsters that were on the surface were corrupted by The Beast, with the exception of Constructs. We wish you a successful and speedy mission.

Next, Orion.

Orion, you have been requested to investigate a large pocket of Beast influence on a Devilite level which is currently directly below Moorcroft Manor. It is possible that this influence has solidified into what knights are calling Tearium, and Gremlins are calling Aline. You are required to see if any such solidified substance exists on this floor, and if it does, then take it back to the council.

What a big job for just one Owlite...

Ael was eating a small piece of Wolver meat when she heard the message. She hadn't gotten even a single day of rest since she delivered her last reconnaissance report... And she was already being tasked with another. No intel. No explination why she was being asked to go without a group. Again. She let a deep breath flow out of her mouth, and grabbed her staff.

There wasn't really any option but to obey orders; Ael knew this, but... If The Great Colony was so important, wouldn't more information help narrow down the search? Like places that were being looked into by other Owlites? Or perhaps points of interest? Then again, if they had news to share with her, Wizarc would have told her so. Unless he forgot.

Regardless, she had to do her task. She wandered towards a mock-marketplace consisting of mainly raw meat first; Owlites didn't need to cook their food to eat it... But there were some who preferred a bit of Fire Magic to make their food crispy, resulting in quite a variety of cuts and colors down this particular route of the Candlestick Keep.

She picked up a couple slabs of cooked and preserved meat, and wrapped them in what appeared to be wax sheets carved off of the Candles in the Candlestick Keep her flock had claimed as its home -- compliments of the particular shop she was purchasing from. She'd have to come back and ask how they produced such a material later.
While it wouldn't tide over her entire mission, the meat would make a good emergency ration if Ael found herself unable to find prey for long periods of time, and so she made a mental "check" on food-provisions. A couple of stalls down, Ael purchased a small map; it wasn't perfect, due to the ever-changing ways of the Clockworks, but the surface was easy enough to find [[Due to changes being necessary in maps, they're sort of like Newspapers -- they come out with new routes every so often, and are distributed for a small fee]]. She plotted out a couple of points on the map, then set off towards a secluded part of the Keep.
~~~
After a short bit of walking, she arrived at her home. It was small, and barely noticeable... It was also almost completely empty, because she seldom slept within. Today, however, she would have a need of one of the only items she had spent her hard-earned money on... A large Black Cloak. She rolled it up and fastened it to a small pack held by the back of her belt with a bit of rope. While Cloaks weren't usually used by Owlites -- they covered the wings and disabled flight -- there were benefits to not showing one's wings. Especially when it came to blending in with the masses. After fastening it safely, she took a short inventory of what she would be taking with her.
She hadn't used any of the Owlite Medicine she had received for her mission to find a new food-source the day before, and so it was already ready within her pack. Her armor was also in mint condition because her opponents usually couldn't reach her before she Trapped them or Flew away, so they were hardly dented, let alone scratched. A couple other pieces of basic gear, like the meat she had bought, were also packed within.
With all she needed, she left her flock for her mission without a word -- as she always did. Her superiors have known that she would leave for the mission without confirmation by now. At the edge of the Keep, Ael plucked the map out of her bag, and examined it once again.
"Here... Here... And here. I should reach Emberlight in only a couple of hours... I hope..." After a couple more seconds of rambling to herself about how she didn't like the fact that there was an Undead theme to her journey upwards, she put the map back and opened her wings wide, jumping off of the edge of her Flock's territory, and lifting off to the areas above.
Musing and Continuations
((@Ember-Break: All things considered, Ael potentially has the easiest mission, so your post cracked me up. As for the groups, I hope to dial it up if only a bit, after the first set of missions are complete, then groups might be needed. I'll leave that to your discretion. Not now though. Also to note, it was always a foolish oversight of The Great Colony, arrogance perhaps, that they desired to know nothing of gremlins. They've changed this way of thinking now, and Ael is the first Owlite to seek the Great Colony of gremlins. Lucky her. xD))
Diruoer took advantage of the Zombies not moving when they used their breath, and jumped to their backs. Hacking each Zombie in its ribcage several times, it appeared she finally got through, as they seemingly collapsed. One simply expired and faded away, the other...not so much. The Zombie now towered over her, and grew two bullish horns, perfect for impaling something on. Even its teeth looked nastier. Not to mention the breath, which was quite something coming from her. Its eyes turned white, a kind of white there was no hope nor purity in, and for the first time since she lost her father, Diruoer felt truly afraid.
For the moment.
She couldn't just stand there while it transformed. She desperately hacked and slashed and several of what would have been vital areas, had it been alive. It slowed down the process, but she simply couldn't do enough damage to stop it. The Zombie grabbed her in a crushing grip, and tossed her down violently, and luckily for her she was thrown paws first. She maneuvered the Hammers to hold her in the air then she flipped off of their support, and onto the Zombie's head. Grabbing the horns, she turned the Zombie to the edge of the passage they were currently in, and pushed forward.
The Zombie, surprisingly enough, seemed to realize what she was doing, and tried to tear away from its skull. The infuriating gremlin just kept dodging his hands. It made one flaw in trying to stop her. It didn't try to stop itself.
Once they reached the edge of the passage, overlooking nothing but giant gears and empty spaces, Diruoer backflipped off the Zombie, and gave it a strong kick. The Zombie, realizing its mistake, could do nothing but bellow as it toppled over to the abyss below. Diruoer shook her head, smelled her breath [with surprisingly favourable results], and picked up her hatchets. She took the next turn, and suddenly she could feel the influence of the Aline, making her hair stand on end. It might be an inaccurate method to find it, but it was better than what the Colony had given her. She really must address their means of communication. She sighed.
At least she was close now.
Orion was slightly peeved, to say the least. He had just gotten his limited freedom, and before he even got anywhere, he got ordered to search for "Beast Influence". No warning, barely any directions, and a Devilite floor. Mom and Dad wouldn't be happy about that one. But, the Council's word was law, essentially. Orion was two floors below his destination floor, and was purposely going slow, he wanted to find a Knight before he carried out his mission. He hadn't encountered a Knight since he had started flying through the Clockworks. He had encountered a Gremlin before, and it was a particularly nasty piece of business he had went through.
"May The Beast devour its soul," Orion muttered.
He stopped and looked around the Treasure Vault. It was so alluring to him, he wanted to spend more time here, but, sadly, he had a mission to carry out. Maybe he'd see another Owlite in the Clockworks, it would make things less lonely. He hooted sadly at that sentiment. He unfurled his wings to fly in search of the next elevator and lifted off.
His next thought was of his parents, because he was abruptly and violently grounded.
Well..... BANANA
((Is someone coming to help me *whines* EDIT: Nevermind))
Archimedes was a rather practical person. But could he face on a large gang of Beast infected... well, beasts? Probably not. He lobbed his Nitronome and then two sonic Nitronome grenades into the crowd. The group of usually weak monsters was now smarter. When the smoke cleared, he found his Nitronome being tossed back at him, primed. Two other Chromalisks were ready to throw the grenades back at him. Archimedes caught the bomb and defused it as fast as he could, clipping back to his bandolier. The grenades he caught just in time, but the Chromas had clearly forgotten to press one of the buttons. He pocketed those, and ran his sword through one of the Chromas.
"One down, nineteen to go." Just than, he had a plan. It was a crazy plan, but it was a plan. Archimedes pulled his goggles over his eyes, hoping they wouldn't get evaporated completely. He primed all of his bombs, but with a little more time until detonation. As he had expected, the four Chromas had tied him up with there tongues. The wolvers were about to pounce when a huge "BOOM" echoed through the clockworks. Archimedes, after realizing he was alive, picked up his bombs. He got out his notebook, and logged all of these things' new abilities. He limped to the facility, hoping not to find more monsters.
Mission Update
((@Saucce: Spiral HQ has been monitoring Archimedes's mission, and have sent a backup squad of three knights (Standard 4 star gear) to deliver a Vitapod and Health Capsules to him. They have done this through the teleportation module ((works once per mission, basically the Join Party button in SK)), and the squad will stand guard outside the facility.They have not been authorized to go inside the factory, due to their rushed clearance and their inadequacy for missions of such delicacy.
You find the facility open and desolate. The first room you will enter is completely empty, save for a bench. There are two exits from this room, a door on the left and another on the right.
1. Should you enter the room on the left, you will find a room with 5 computers. Some may be working, some may not. These computers are all on singular desks with drawers on their right sides. Other than that this room is completely empty, and has no other exit.
2. Should you enter the room on the right, you will find a room full of discarded papers, at every tile, and the odd, sporadic rustling noise. This room also contains two desks, both with giant padlocks on their giant compartments. There is one desk on the left and another on the right. There is also a door at the far end of the room, but there have been boards nailed across it.
How we do this now. You tell me how you search the rooms and I tell you what happens, for example, if he finds something. Also, he will not be able to decipher anything he finds, leave that to HQ.
@Liminori - Ok it sounds cool..))
Taking in the sights.
Ael was making good progress towards Emberlight, all things considered. It had only taken her an hour, and she was already two depth below her destination. The journey had been quite boring, all things considered. She had stayed out of sight and flown swiftly and silently to each elevator, so she had avoided any monsters that would have attacked her if she needed to walk through the depths. With that thought, she gave a silent 'Thank you.' to the fact that she had wings. At least above the ground she didn't have to worry about ground monsters...
Or so she thought, until a Zombie came falling out of the sky, almost hitting her when she was about to lift off to the Graveyard depth above. It landed with what could only be described as an odd crunching-squishing like noise, and the life faded from its eyes only a meter in front of her. She tentatively poked at the now-crushed zombie with her staff before looking up at the depth before her.
'Could it have fallen? No, even Zombies aren't that mindless... It was pushed.'
Ael briefly considered changing routes and flying up to the level at a different location, but considering the fact that no other Zombies were falling from the sky, she came to the conclusion that whoever/whatever caused the poor creature to come hurtling down a level was no longer interested in the ledge she was aiming for now that the zombie was dealt with. With that thought, she lifted off, but a bit to the side of where she originally planned on arriving. Better to be safe than sorry, after all.
Despite the safety distance, however, Ael had no intention of letting whoever dropped the Zombie off the ledge go without inspection. This was partially because she was curious who would be at such a low depth, and partially because she had time to spare.
'Considering how close the depth is to Emberlight, it might be a Gremlin... Whereas I can ask about the Great Colony. Even if it isn't a Gremlin, I'm sure I'll learn something regarding the area.'
If it was a Knight, she could observe how they dealt with Monsters. If it was a monster, she could potentially find something in the area which caused it to launch a comrade off a ledge. There was nothing to lose but extra lines on a Report she'd have to file after returning from her mission. If she found something valuable, maybe she'd get a bonus.
[[It can be assumed that Ael will reach the Graveyard Depth within the next movement from Diruoer, and will observe her from afar (and by "afar" I mean however far Owl Eyes can see without losing their target).]]
Tearium? Aline? Beast influence? Does it matter?
Ricante shuddered, not from fear, but from disgust. The stench had grown with the monster's power.
"You, my friend, are revolting," he said to the Zombie.
His friend raised an arm to swipe, and it met Ricante's shield, halving the health of the shield with the one hit, and knocking Ricante backwards. Ricante was hardly surprised at this point. He shot at the Zombie, but it deflected his bullet with its horn.
"Commendable," Ricante muttered. He drew his Fang of Vog and advanced warily, the two cagily circling the area between them. The Zombie suddenly began a sharp intake of breath.. and Ricante struck. He struck the horn which the Zombie used to parry his blade. Jumping backwards from the area, he processed what had just happened.
"Is it actually intelligent now?" he wondered. To answer his question, the Zombie spat several globs around him, preventing him from confidently moving in any area.
"Herding. It's herding me," he realized.
The Zombie drew breath this time, and Ricante's shield, possibly due to aberration, had not regenerated yet.
"Enough," the knight said. Drawing his Gilded Griffin and Argent Peacemaker, he fired a shot from each right into the Zombie's mouth, stunning the creature. He charged both guns while it was disoriented, and aimed right at its skull.
"I don't believe die, is the appropriate term, but you get the sentiment," Ricante winked at the creature, infuriating it. He let the charge attacks fly. The eagles ripped the Zombie's head off, and it landed, still with horns and glowing white eyes, in a passage at the other side of the floor which faced the abyss over the floor below.
"All in a day's playtime," Ricante smirked, but it was not as pronounced as usual. These Beast Monsters really packed a punch. Well, as long as the knights were well equipped and ready, it was nothing they couldn't handle. But Beast Monsters, Owlites, and the Gremlins that for some reason now took offense to the knights trying to leave the planet, though that's all they wanted them to do at first, may prove to be the pressure that cracked the nut that was the Spiral Order.
He walked along the passage, according to his Com Unit, the tearium, or whatever, was right around this corner. Ricante wasn't optimistic about this being anything they could use, after all, tearium was native to Isora, how on Cradle would you get a separate tearium sample? He turned the corner, and was stunned.
In the middle of the clearing, lay a perfect white sphere, radiating raw power at anything in its presence. How he hadn't sensed it before now was beyond him.
"It's stunning," he radioed to Kora.
Out of nowhere, a Thwack Hammer flew at him. He blocked it with his FoV, and it boomeranged to the hand that threw it. A Darkfang Gremlin stepped out of the shadows and snarled,
"Property of the Gremlins, knight scum."
Ricante was stunned. Drawing his Acheron, at which the Gremlin quailed a bit, he asked,
"Where does a gremlin get off calling a Knight scum?"
***
It was a rather uneventful, but trying few minutes for Diruoer, as she tried to sense the Aline. Following its direct influence had led her straight into a wall, and she stressed over finding the alternate route.
*Fool! Aren't you a Gremlin?* she thought. She took out a mild explosive, one used by Gremlins in Deconstruction Zones, and hole big enough for an Owlite, or those tall masked things that were in the Clockwork Terminals. At the thought of Owlite she became a little edgy, as she had the vague sensation of being watched, but was still trying to dismiss it as nothing. Thinking of those beasts which likely were plotting their revenge did not help her dismiss anything.
Just like that, there it was. The Aline. In all its magnificent, white power-radiating, spherical glory.
"It's stunning," a voice startled her.
Looking around the sphere, she saw that it was a single Knight. One. Uno. Singular. She could take one Knight, probably. At any rate, she wasn't about to fail her first mission. She let the Thwack Hammer fly, but the knight reflexively parried it, knocking it back to her. So she decided to try and mark territory.
"Property of the Gremlins, knight scum," she snarled, throwing in a bit of bad breath for good measure.
The Knight was stunned at first, and Diruoer was pleased with her effect, but then he drew his Acheron. Diruoer stepped back involuntarily. She could smell the Gremlin blood on that blade, almost as if he used it exclusively for Gremlins. Then he asked,
"Where does a gremlin get off calling a Knight scum?"
Diruoer wasn't generally cool under pressure, and this situation was new territory for her. It was situations like these her immaturity came out in. She opened her mouth to snarl at him again, but he cut her off.
"Just shut up. I'm tired, I need to get this back to HQ. You try and stop me, you die. You see this blade? It's killed 1498 Gremlins, and yes I've kept count. I'm sure you don't want to add to the count. So thanks for your cooperation," and then he made a move for the Aline.
Diruoer involuntarily jumped in front of it, Hammers up, and teeth bared. The Knight also drew a Sentenza, to Diruoer's further dismay and heaved a heavy sigh.
"Very well then." he said resignedly.
Ms. Steal-Yo-Orb.
As Ael stalked the Gremlin, she made sure to cover any tracks she made after perching on secluded Graves, trees, and other such Graveyard scenery -- she may not have been the only one following the Gremlin, after all; that was one of the basic rules of Hunting. You may not be the only follower.
Once the Gremlin came across a knight, however, Ael became a bit more daring. She didn't approach the two enough to be within range of stray bullets -- which would probably be fired off any minute now, considering how the pair were reacting to one another... But it put them in range of her magic. But those two weren't the only things Ael was interested in...
"Hoo hoo..." Ael hooted almost inaudibly as she examined the white orb at a distance. An orb. A white orb. It was reminiscent of The Beast's energy -- at least in the white-and-powerful aspect. With that in mind, Ael considered her options. She could watch until the pair tire each other out -- or when there's only one left, then make a move, or... She could intervene.
Ael lifted her staff and started speaking in a hushed tone. The stones which assisted in her chanting glowed faintly, as if reverberating the words.
"Per cuniculum, {Tunnel Through,}
penetrare terra, {Penetrate the Earth.}
et revertar {and return}
quod volo. {what I want.}"
She then stamped her staff into the dusty ground, and the ground beneath her staff tunneled through, and over to the orb... Where the ground opened, causing the Orb to fall through. The earth within then closed the gap, leaving only a small crack, and pushed the Orb by closing around it -- effectively sliding the odd item through the tunnel until it popped up through the ground at Ael's feet, where she eagerly picked it up.
Before getting too distracted with it, however, she quickly did a small chant to encase the orb in dust -- as to eliminate its glow, and set it within her pack. A small crack-like line had been made to her position -- probably because she could not provide much depth for the orb to tunnel through, considering her distance; and so she waved her wings, eliminating her footprints on the dusty ground, and flew to a tree nearby. She made sure that her position would block the pair's view of her should they follow her, and she began chanting once again.
"Perussi harenae, {Consuming Sand,}
Non solidum, Terram, {Hollow Earth,}
tenere inimici mei {hold my enemies}
cum tactu cutis. {with the touch of your skin.}"
Her intention was to create a large area of Quicksand to hold the two. Although she was sure the Elders would love to investigate... Whatever this was, she was more concerned with information about the Great Colony. While the sand held them, she would use it as a bargaining chip. As she set her staff on the branch she was perched in, a line of magic flowed through and entered the ground, which darkened slightly, but remained the same other than that. The minute change wouldn't be visible with the mist crawling across the area, and the color of the dirt around was not always constant... Still, Ael focused on the area around her.
Surely the Gremlin and Knight weren't the only beings in this place... And she wouldn't have some Beast-Influenced Zombie climb up her tree without a good deal of warning.
[[So, I'm using Latin for the words relating to magic. It's hard to get Google translate to translate properly... I tried translating back and forth, but the results still weren't perfect. I'm just going to use {Curly Brackets} for the translation from now on.]]
Just GREAT
((Firstly: I died when I read your subject. I'm still laughing right now xD. Secondly, that was even easier than I thought it would be for you))
Both Ricante and Diruoer were stunned silly by the orb's disappearance. Was it a sinkhole? Could they both have been defeated by this freak occurence of nature? It seemed unlikely, but they were stumped.
Ricante was also petty.
"I still blame you, gremlin. Had you just let me take the tearium, you could've chased after it. You could have seen if I was doing anything special. Where is your strategy?"
Diruoer was silently fuming. First the earth swallows her Aline, there was no way the Colony would believe this one, then the Knight insults her on top of it. And he had a point too, to add insult to injury. She tried shuffling away, but realized that she couldn't move. She tried to move her feet but couldn't get any traction. For that matter, she couldn't see her feet, for some reason they were below the dirt. Interestingly enough, the knight was going through the same thing. And he knew what it was.
"Quicksand. How can there be blasted quicksand here?! There wasn't any a minute ago!" he exclaimed, perplexed.
Both parties silently fumed, trying to figure out how to get out of their predicament. Diruoer specifically, kept wondering why she was having this sinking feeling.
((Latin... nice touch..))
"sinking feeling" -- intentional or not, nice Pun.
Ael chuckled as the Knight and Gremlin fell so easily to her trap. There weren't any vines dangling around in this place... Even the trees were lifeless -- almost hollow due to the loss of moisture and sunlight within the Stratum. Struggling would only quicken their descent in the trap as well. They were, in other words, caught between a rock and a hard place.
Staying behind her cover (there was no sense in putting herself in unnecessary danger by stepping out in bullet range, after all), Ael turned to a large stone which seemed to have a hole the size of one of her clan-mates inside of it, and spoke off of it. The reflection of her voice would make her location hard to grasp, at least. To even further keep her location and species a secret, she chanted a spell even a baby Owlite could learn.
"Lapidi {Lifeless Stone,}
et vocem meam non. {shield my Voice.}"
The result of the spell was almost instant. the earth silently slithered up the tree Ael was perched upon, and became a light mask over her face, with holes in odd locations, causing her voice to distort as she spoke to the pair:
"I'll cut this short... Partially because I'd like to save time, and partially because you'll both be sealed in earth and unable to respond -- let alone breathe should I take my sweet time... You will answer my questions. Otherwise, you will die."
After pausing for a moment to make sure that the pair understood their situation, she continued.
"First... What direction have you two come from? Starting with you, Knight."
Ael's only had two intentions with this question: to find out the pliability of the Gremlin, and to further her own disguise. If the pair started thinking she was just a territorial beast who was just protecting her land, they may be more willing to part with information -- there was no loss in giving hints to a beast, and then escaping with your life after all. She wasn't exactly a professional at interrogation, but she didn't need to ask for what she wanted directly -- even she knew that. If she had started with "Where is the Great Colony", then the pair would know that she was a sentient creature desiring intel... And her chances of receiving information would plummet.
She wouldn't stop at simple directions, of course, but if she could find out the direction that at least the Gremlin came from, she would be able to track her footprints and (quite notable) scent much quicker than she could without the hint. Having information from the knight wasn't necessary, but the Gremlin might catch on to her intentions if she neglected him, so she would have to take it slow... Besides, having a bit of intel on the Knights wouldn't hurt. She hoped to continue asking questions until she gained all she would need... Then she would let the pair go. She might even return the Orb.
She had all day to ask questions. The pair, however... Had only a short while; 15 minutes tops. She waited patiently for their reply.
Really.
((You do know the strategy to walk out of quicksand, right? I read it back when I was 6, lemme see if I can find it online/ Here you go: Wheee. In this case it'll be getting feet out, #3 of Part 1 of 3. But if this exchange goes longer, which I imagine it will, then I'll switch to #3 in Part 2))
*Well, no vines no branches... isn't that a problem?* Ricante chuckled to himself. He began to lay back, almost floating, even with all his equipment.
Diruoer was in no such mood. She was frantically paddling the Thwack Hammers now, trying to make any noticeable movement in any direction, frankly. But all her struggling had done was bring her knees deep. She snarled in frustration.
A voice suddenly boomed over to the two, evidently belonging to whatever had caused the quicksand. Or maybe it was something trying to take advantage of the situation.
"I'll cut this short... Partially because I'd like to save time, and partially because you'll both be sealed in earth and unable to respond -- let alone breathe should I take my sweet time... You will answer my questions. Otherwise, you will die."
Diruoer was in too much of a panic to do anything else. This was too much for a first mission. Zombies on steroids, the Knight, the quicksand, now the voice essentially holding her hostage? It was too much. She lay there in shock.
*Maybe I should start carrying bombs after all. I would've been out of this easy enough. But the very notion of quicksand in a mechnical world is laughable to the extreme. Who knew the Clockworks had a sense of humour?* Ricante thought, as he slowly rolled away from the quicksand.
Then the voice spoke again.
"First... What direction have you two come from? Starting with you, Knight."
Diruoer looked at Ricante expectantly and pleadingly. She didn't want to die, after all, and she had tried what he was doing, But she was just plain stuck now.
Ricante wasn't amused. It obviously wasn't a mindless monster, that was for sure. But why start off with such a - nevermind.
"What kind of stupid question is that Enchantress?" he said, still rolling his way through the quicksand.
"Obviously if you mean regarding this specific floor, then I came from one of the two elevators. Right now I can't access my faculties so I can't tell you,"
he paused here for a few seconds, just enough to get off the next sentence.
"If you mean regarding the Clockworks, then obviously from above or below. In my case, I came from from below, through Firestorm Citadel and Candlestick Keep," he concluded.
Ricante started rolling again. The nerve of some creatures. If only he could shoot it or something.
Diruoer said,
"Up. I came from above," and nothing else. She feared every action would push her deeper in.
((What size is the quicksand? And how far are Diruoer and Ricante from it? Also, your time may be limited with Diruoer as well, so use it wisely))
Don'tchu lie t'me.
[[The Quicksand is a perfect circle, with a Diameter of 50m. Because Diruoer and Ricante weren't at the exact center of the spell (rather, the quicksand's center is the tree Ael is perched on), they're both about 10m away from the edge of the quicksand -- meaning Ael is 15m away from them in a tree.]]
Noticing the knight's movement through the Quicksand, Ael silently tapper herself on the head. She had forgotten that binding the pair wouldn't be as simple as regular beasts. The Gremlin wasn't moving very well, but if the Knight escaped, Ael could be in very serious danger... So she would have to cut his movement.
"Why not stay a while, knight? I'll release you if you tell me what I wish to know, after all..."
Although all these casts were getting tiring, Ael needed information... So long as she had enough willpower to pull them out once all was said and done, no harm would come from the event. Hopefully. Even if she didn't have the power to lift them out, because she had focused on having a large area of quicksand, the depth would only take the gremlin to her neck, and the knight to the midpoint of his chest.
"Firmus in manibus est, {Solid grasp,}
ligare {bind}
ab intus vestri {from within your}
terrenis manus. {earthly hands.}"
With that, stone from below the quicksand wrapped around the knight's legs and arms. Breaking the bindings would be difficult -- well, more difficult than freeing the pair from sand, but it was necessary to secure her own safety.
With the possibility of escape out of the way, Ael thought about what the Knight and Gremlin had said. The Gremlin seemed quite frantic... If she pushed her to hopelessness, then perhaps she would become more pliable. Or perhaps she would simply shut down. The Knight seemed keen on retaining all of his information -- Ael had just came from below, and would have noticed him scaling the depths. But that didn't really matter. He had discovered she was more intelligent than an average beast, so the Gremlin would probably follow suit.
At the same time, something occurred to Ael. The gunman's arms were now bound... And while the Gremlin could still throw her hatchets, doing such a thing would only bring her deeper into the Quicksand.
"Well, I suppose hiding any longer won't do me any good, if you were able to guess I wasn't a beast."
Ael took off the tree, and flew closer to the pair, perching on a nearby stone [[About 5m away]]. She was at the side of both of them, so that they could both have a view of her. With one hand, she reached into her pack and withdrew the White Orb, the dust fell from it to reveal its shine immediately. Her second hand remained behind her back, where she moved her fingers in odd orientations; this resulted in her rings humming slowly. It was a defensive spell she had implemented within the jewels after her fingers moved in certain ways. It would call upon a single column of stone from the ground when she held her hand open.
She didn't relish the thought of using more magic here, but she had revealed herself, so she may as well have been safe with it.
"Perhaps now you will be more open with your information. I will be blunt with you. I mean both of you no harm, but I need information. Now... Where have you both come from?"
First Interaction
"Just flipping great," Ricante muttered, after discovering he lost the use of his limbs. It had to be an Owlite now, seeing as it didn't just take his information and go. And more importantly that it was magically controlling the quicksand .
What was even more frustrating was that he had actually gotten close to the damn edge, only to be stopped by some presumptuous Owlite and her Earth magic .
"You know," Ricante said, as their captor flew out of the nearby tree, " Some people are more open to talking when they're free to do what they were presently doing. I was talking to you, wasn't I? Even more insulting about this is that I'm being subjected to this in the first place, as I'm convinced your species did away with my brother, two I just came down here for the damn white sphere, and three, I probably don't have the information you want to know!" Ricante had worked his way up to a shout, he was irate now.
Diruoer was dumbfounded at the Knight's tirade. Who knew they were capable of such sentiments? She kept silent and let him carry on. Ricante sighed, and continued.
"Alright, look. I don't have anything against you personally, but you're asking the wrong question. Everyone knows the Knights come from Haven, even the !@#$*** Wolvers. As an interjection, I'm usually more mild-mannered than this, but I don't like being captured, I was fine till you did the second spell, I would have even had tea with you. As for the Gremlin over there, she comes from her Colony. As for where her Colony is...." Ricante looked thoughtful.
Diruoer was in a bind. Had this Knight really figured out the greatest secret of her race?
"It's a good question. I've always figured that it was to the West of Haven someplace. And you can't ask the Gremlins who were outcast from the place, it's like they were brainwashed. Is that it little Gremlin, to the west of Haven?" Ricante asked seriously.
Diruoer really wanted to sink below the quicksand right now. This Knight had somehow figured out the general location of the Colony. Even Wolvers couldn't track the Colony. It was unspeakable. But before either of them could ascertain an answer from her reaction, at least hopefully, she did something simple and feral.
She went Swarm.
She grew in size, her feet touched the floor of the quicksand, and her fur took on a purplish tinge. Her strength and speed more than doubled in her case, and it was enough to quickly propel her out of the quicksand, and into the tree. Then she settled down again, looked at the Owlite, and whimpered in fear. She couldn't believe its words, she thought the Owlite was ready to start its path of revenge, and who was she to stop it?
Sorry I haven't posted. School's been keeping me busy and a cold
Archimedes was puzzled. Why had the gremlins locked those cabinets? Archimedes quickly took apart the computers, save their memory cards and hard drives. He then put his device to the first lock, it clacked open. The second lock followed in a similar manner. He carefully laid out each part of the computers inside his bag. Archimedes collected the papers and quickly organized them by similarities, also laying them in his backpack. He put away the contents of the file cabinets in a similar fashion.
"C'mon, this could be fun" He said to his backup. He readied his Irontech Destroyer, telling his squad to ready themselves. At that, he placed the bomb by the door and covered his ears.
Continuation
((I'll give you props for what you did with the Computers, didn't think you'd do that. Also in regard to the file cabinet.. you found two square looking things with scratches in them.
Archimedes placed the bomb at the door, and the rustling noise grew louder. The door was blown off. In the resulting smoke, an unidentifiable black mass hurtled through the room, shrieking, not aiming at anyone in particular. This creature will take quite a few bombs to put down, and will not be identifiable once put down, if you do choose to put it down. The room beyond contains nothing but black sludge, of the same colour and smell of that creature.
Return to Haven once you are through with the factory.
And don't worry about it man. Life happens.))
Sand, Pillars, and a whole lot of mental deduction.
As the knight complained about the bindings Ael was empathetic with him. As she said, she didn't wish any harm upon the Knight and Gremlin... Some of her clanmates were like that, but her mission did not entail causing any hostilities; as she had known, she wasn't used to interrogation... Perhaps she was a bit harsh. She would apologize once she obtained the information.
The knight's question towards the Gremlin seemed more calm, however. Perhaps Ael wasn't the only one hoping to gain information on the subject? Certainly the knight's uncertainty on the subject meant that the Knights did not know the location of The Great Colony either -- or at least this specific one did not.
With his guess towards the Colony's location... Ael gained all she needed to know. The Gremlin, perhaps half out of freight, but most predominantly out of panic of having its Colony's secrets revealed; the emotions on her face seemed to reflect the same expression Owlite children had when they were accused of stealing one's belongings while the Owlites were contained in the Core -- with proof to back up their crime, as well. Wide-eyed unexpectant shock. Ael didn't need to be a professional interrogator to realize that the Knight's guess wasn't far off the mark.
The Gremlin then did something unexpected... It radiated an energy that Ael had not had much experience with before. Something... Different. Negative. It was hard to place. Regardless of its properties, the Gremlin used the energy to propel itself out of Ael's sand-trap, and onto the tree she had been perched upon just moments prior.
The energy then subsided as she looked back at Ael. Its feelings of dismay, and perhaps fear still showing clearly on her face. Without it bound, Ael would not be able to gain any more precise information beyond "West of Haven", and that was a problem; If even the Knights, who presumably resided in Haven which was not far off from the Gremlin's main Colony hadn't found it, it must have been very well hidden... More than a general Direction, Ael needed to have a Guide of some sort -- even if the guide didn't know it was guiding her.
With that thought, Ael deliberately didn't turn directly to the Gremlin, only enough so she could see the ground leading up to the branch -- and therefor the Gremlin. If it was freightened, then giving away her next move wouldn't be wise... She then released the magic which had been building up in her hand; resulting in a pillar of stone erupting from below the branch and pushing upwards. Because of the amount of time put into the cast, the stone would break through the branch in less than a moment, and the collision from below should knock the Gremlin out... Provided she didn't hop away.
[[If Diruoer is hit by the pillar, she should (as I said in the actual dialogue) get knocked out as it breaks through the brittle branch (which will be quite easy to break, considering the tree itself) and hits her from below. If she dodges, Ael will let her escape, and will follow her after speaking with Ricante.]]
K.O.
Ricante was extremely surprised when the Gremlin just went purple and jumped out of the quicksand.
*Maybe I should've stayed over with the Gremlin,* he contemplated.
Its reaction seemed to suggest that Ricante was somewhat right though, because yes, that could be inferred from wide-eyed shock and subsequent panic. As to why it jumped in the tree then cowered, Ricante didn't know. At that strength it could've cleared the pit and ran before the Owlite had the chance to cast a spell, assuming it didn't have one on standby. Also, he could add to the list of things that stumped him in the Clockworks.
1. Both Roarmulus Twins dying at the same time? Design flaw? Ask that Gremlin.
2. How to get out of a quicksand limblock which occured while trying to get out of said quicksand.
Diruoer was slowly calming down, to the point where she was about to interject something into the conversation, hopefully something territorial and preserving the location of the Colony, but no guarantees. She opened her mouth to say something...
And was promptly knocked out by a rocketing stone pillar that snapped through her branch. She fell to the dirt below with a dull thud and two clangs, as her Hammers were still in hand.
Ricante whistled.
"Ouch. That's gonna hurt in the morning. So I suppose you're going to install some tracker dirt on her or something?" he asked. He flexed his limbs, out of boredom, but realized that he might just be strong enough to flex out of the armlock, and from there the leglock. He continued flexing.
Fighting Your Parents ((I just felt like this needed a subject... Don't judge me.. ^_^))
Orion was slammed down violently, and his hypnotizing blue eyes flashed with outrage. Whatever had dragged him down..felt wet. He got up, and brushed off his robe, which had no stains thankfully. He turned around to see his assailant.. and immediately ducked. Whatever it was had thrown a tree at him.
At this point, he didn't rule out the possibility of it being his parents. They would simply tell the council,
"Oh we found Orion mauled in a Treasure Vault, so we came for him," he thought. And the secondary thought to that was that they'd be able to prove he was mauled didn't improve Orion's outlook on the situation.
Whatever was attacking him was throwing anything it could find, but thankfully in the Treasure Vault, there wasn't much ((besides criticism xD)) that could be thrown outside of stones, and random pieces of metal. It was a simple matter for Orion to deflect these , he simply twirled his spear in front of him like a propeller, even generating a considerable gust.
Then came the other tree.
*What is it with this thing?* Orion thought, exasperated. He ducked under the tree, then grabbed it by the roots. Once he had a solid hold on it, he swung it in a 360 degree arc, letting the tree fall exactly where it came from.
It flew, root first, in an arc back to that same spot. There was a thud, and then a loud strained squeal of protest.
"Squealing? Well it could be my sister...." Orion mused out loud.
He flew over to the tree, which was solidly rooted and upright in the soil again, and there she was, with the roots around her like a cage..
A chromalisk.
*These Beast influenced monsters are too much.* Orion thought, unfurling his wings. He took off to the angry roars of the Chromalisk, and streaked off towards the elevator.
Ahktomb was woken prematurely, and the reason did not surprise him.
We have requested you join Vetus's pursuit of collecting souls. We have also sent ten Harvesters in the Clockworks to aid in this case. Decisions will still be run by you, but via these messages. We also need someone to determine when we can take over any of the sentient tribes, and have selected you as the best possible Apocrean to do that. Good Hunting.
Ahktomb snapped his fingers. Instantaneously he was in a Clockworks Terminal. There were a number of ways he could've carried out his task but he needed to think. He transformed himself into an Obsidian Carbine and took some time to plan.
((So yes, there are ten Harvesters I have roaming the Clockworks at all times now, so somebody could get got :) ))
Mutual Benefit and sleight tinges of Empathy.
Ael turned to the Gremlin after she fell from the tree. The pillar was effective. Maybe too effective.
'Maybe... I overdid it a little...' she thought to herself. She had been overdoing it a lot lately. At least the Quicksand below the Gremlin softened her fall, and due to the Gremlin's sprawled out an motionless form the Sand wouldn't suck her in any time soon.
With the knight's guess on how she would track the Gremlin, Ael only considered it for a moment, and then turned to the stranded knight and thought on his question.
'Marking her would be effective... But there is no guarantee of her life when she returns in failure. The fact that there are outcasts means that the the Gremlin are probably intolerable with failures. If she does not complete her mission (which presumably has something to do with the Orb), she will become an outcast -- or worse.'
"She will not return to her colony without the Orb." Ael spoke her conclusion out loud.
She would have to have the Gremlin make it back after completing her mission -- or at least get close enough to The Great Colony for Ael to pin-point its location. The only problem was how to get her to do that despite this encounter...
"Knight. Your objective was this Orb, correct?" Ael held the Orb out so that he could see it clearly -- but it was not within arm's reach, because of the distance between the two. "My objective is to find The Great Colony. Nothing more, nothing less. Judging by your uncertainty regarding the direction of the Colony, it is my understanding your kind does not know its location either."
Of course, the knight could have just been keeping information from Ael... but for now, she would simply continue. Ael withdrew her hand, and returned the Orb to its previous place within her pack.
"I have a solution that will benefit us both... Are you willing to cooperate with me despite my... Harsh treatment -- for which I apologize?" Ael slowly rubbed the back of her head as a bashful gesture.
Her plan was simple. If the Knight and the Gremlin were after the same thing, the Knight would eventually wish to obtain the orb -- but that did not mean he would need it immediately. Ael would allow the knight to accompany her while tracking the Gremlin, which would, in turn, allow the Knight to know the location of the Colony as well. Anything that happened beyond gathering the location of The Great Colony was not part of Ael's mission; whether he decided to ambush the Gremlin before she entered the Colony or not was simply none of her business.
The Gremlin would most likely fail her mission... But Ael would not interfere. She could not. There was no telling whether the Gremlin would have survived her original confrontation with the knight anyways... At least this way she would live.
Meh. I'll do it anyways.
"You see, I already took a sample of that Orb, to be quite honest with you. If you roll it around you'll find an area that has a dent in it. Trade secrets," Ricante said with a wink.
"But we do both want to know where this Colony is, so I accept your offer, and your apology. I understand why you limblocked me, I just prefer to use intimidation." he added.
"Gremlins have a point beyond the Great Colony where all mission related things go, however, right beyond the outskirts. Once she gives the Gremlins on the outskirts the orb, she's completed her mission, and I can just shoot them. The Colony is very prone to shadow related accidents after all," Ricante smirked.
Then as an afterthought,
"Kora's gonna kill me," he said this with some laughter.
Diruoer made a small moan, still out cold, but made an attempt to roll over.
He sure does know a lot about the city he's never been to...
[[How does Ricante know all this stuff? I could understand if he was comparing it to the way Haven was currently working but... No indication on the connection between the two was given.]]
Ael turned to Diruoer as she made a sleight grumble over the Quicksand. Ael would have to clean up this mess for it to be believable... She wasn't a master at manipulating memories, so she would have to make the Gremlin come up with the proper explanation herself. After that thought, she turned back to the Knight.
"Are you sure you should initiate combat so easily? If they are prepared for attacks, you may end up with an army storming out of their stronghold. Furthermore, if they find out a knight has found their base, they may just send a Gremlin army to Haven under the understanding that you had been sent for reconnaissance -- as to gain the upper hand. You said it yourself... Even Wolvers know where Haven is."
'Plus, if you do cause a ruckus... It may interfere with my mission...'
There's a reason for that
((The same reason he could confidently theorize that it was to the West of Haven. I was going to do this bit later on, but you trapped him in quicksand xD He had an experience with one of the Emberlight Gremlins that told him everything he just told you, in story form. What he doesn't know is the path to the Colony, and what is after that mission clearance point. So, basically, he has nothing else to tell you. Ricante is currently the most experienced Vanguard actively going into the Clockworks. He was right after the Core Squad, essentially. He knows some stuff. He was also the one who killed Diruoer's father, but neither of them know that.))
"These are Gremlins we're talking about. They're never prepared for....never mind," Ricante sighed dramatically.
"I guess I won't bring the complete orb back after all, oh well, could've been nothing," he said again. He was still flexing, and the sand around his arms seemed more receptive to movement now, he tried freeing them, if only to be a bit more comfortable.
"I wonder why they want it though," he added as an afterthought.
Diruoer's eyes fluttered open, and she was clearly disoriented. While she was still out of it, Ricante pointed out,
"Isn't it better for us if we and the sand aren't around when she comes to?"
Hmm....
Archimedes decided that it might be better to allow the creature to survive. It might assist the knights in the destruction of the Beast and saving... nevermind. He allowed the blob to leave the room. He collected several vials of the black sludge. Archimedes attempted to clean off some of the sludge and see if anything was underneath it.
Hm. Interesting.
((The board from which the sludge was cleaned off had a purplish-black glow, indicating that all organic matter could be corrupted. Better be careful... I wouldn't let the black thing touch me either))
