As I sit here at the kitchen table thinking about why some players decided to forego joining Forsaken World, I considered their reasons. Lack of time was the most prominent one. And then I thought about my own reasons, reasons why I wouldn't want too many players joining. Things tend to get really messy when you have more than, say, 4 players or so in the game.
But then another thought came to me. If you'll glance over at the Gremlin Chatter section, there are games over there with countless players in them, well over 10, that manage to stick around and actually work. What most of them have in common is brevity. Each post is short and sweet, and each carries as much punch as a few choice words can carry.
What if forum storygames functioned similarly? Supposing there was a Treasure Vault storygame with an actual, serious story, but played out like one of those trite Gremlin Chatter games. Would it work?
If you're interested, then this thread is for you. The setting is a simple one: You have escaped the Skylark in your escape pod and crashed. The rules are simple: you may only post up to two sentences. I chose two because, while one sentence per post would certainly work, high-quality writing can really only be done with more, particularly the infamous "show-not-tell" business. But at the same time, most players are average writers, and anything more than two sentences can get really painful and time-consuming.
So begin and leave at your leisure. Write with whatever quality you feel like. Begin when you're ready.
Desmond Snow was holding a nice, juicy arm over the fire, another knight bound and gagged beside him, bleeding out from the already gangrenous stump of his missing arm.
"You'll taste nicely with a bit of seasonal autumn spice sprinkled over those nice ribs of yours, so...sit tight, kiddo."
