Biased Summary: (Puts things into perspective)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeupQ8AEQhU

If all of this really is currently happening then what's to be of Spiral Knights? I've been living under the belief that important portions and essential aspects of this game are being supported by Sega. (i.e. the servers, some of its marketing, etc.) So if Sega is going downhill faster than ever before (Say that their "reconstruction solution" doesn't work) what will happen to this game? Will it be all doom and gloom for us and them or maybe will it really just be for the best? I've heard some people argue in the past that if OOO's lost its partnership with Sega, this game would be doing much better. (Here's a specific thread I remember from the past discussing that: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/96091) But I'm not even sure that their argument applies anymore with the current status of the game nowadays anyway.

So anyway gimme some feedback on this. What do you guys think?

P.S. What will happen to Ruby?!? :o

It says they're focusing more on mobiles and PC online gaming, which includes SK, so who knows?

PS: Ruby doesn't work at Sega anymore, not sure if putting up the post would get modded as personal info but it was on his twitter

Consequences of $€GA's situation are easy to see already - Nick left, nonstop promos. That's all because of $€GA.
I can't say what will happen if $€GA would go down, but one is easy to say: If Spiral Knights or $€GA would be bought by other company, then it would make this game terrible OR great. Depends on company.

....

Hopefully Nintendo will pick up SK and bring their high quality control standards to SK.

If Zynga grabs SK I'm leaving......

What Holy-Nightmare said. If Nintendo will really get Sega, it might not be bad. If Zynga or similiar moneygrabers will touch it, surely it will end on total P2W.

Last I heard from Zynga they

Last I heard from Zynga they were laying off tons of staff so *SHRUG* but that was a while ago. I wouldn't worry too much about them taking over personally.

Also I'm pretty certain Nick leaving was of his own volition? He has his own projects to work on and he felt it was time to move on from SK. He actually just announced some cool stuff a few weeks ago, idk if I'm allowed to post about it here in detail since it's not SK-related but just check his Twitter.

If...

A greedy company (and the money milking schemes they bring) would assuredly be an absolutely killing blow to this game. The population count is abysmal.

If I was ever given control of this game's fate I would fix so many things. A port to PS4/XBO (probably including a re-coding of the PC version on something other than Java), a more optimized monetization strategy (including less of a lottery for costumes), a wider variety of arcade scenario rooms/dungeon floors, a few more side games (probably no more original than the bomberman-style game), more PvP variety including lowering the baseline defense and having actual symmetrical combat, a variety of end-game missions that are equally profitable and grindable, force mission-only players to use the arcade at least once, and add some sort of event/mission/mode where more than four players of the same guild can play together. I'm sure balancing weapons and armor; handing the logistics and time tables of what I just listed off; making sure minimum-specification players can still play well; how data will be handled across platforms and services; handling and maintaining a returning, expanding, and more varied player base; and maintaining the style, tone, and feel of the game while adding new content that doesn't clash will be a tricky challenge (among other things I haven't yet thought of). Probably doomed to be a pipe dream considering the reality of the situation.

Hi all!Just to clarify:

Hi all!

Just to clarify: Three Rings is a part of Sega Networks, Inc., not SEGA of America. Three Rings isn't affected by SoA's recent news.

Given that...
Sega to Axe 300 Jobs as Focus Turns to PC and Mobile

UPDATE: Sega suggests development studios are not directly affected; Future of console games business unclear.

and what Eury said, I wouldn't be too worried for now. If SEGA goes bankrupt, I doubt it'll be within two years.

Yes because those things are the sort that you can just do in an afternoon lunch break...

It's not like some scheming executive in a dark room is like "now how can I sabotage this game further to get me a few million dollars by the end of the month!" I'm sure the developers want to improve the game but the money and the man power isn't there. If you're going to make that many changes, you might as well just make a new game all together.

:/

*sigh* I certainly DO hope that SEGA goes out of business, so then SK can be bought off by Konami and then they will send Hideo Kojima to direct Spiral knight, turning it into the best game of all time. One of these days, guys, one of these days...

Even though SEGA (don't know if it's this SEGA or another one) has made great games, it's a sad fact that since SEGA has taken over OOO things are going worse. I just looked at the announcements section, and it was like this:

Before SEGA took over:
SL's released!
PvP released!
New levels released!
Announcement: we have finished working on the mission system, it will be released very soon!
Rose Regalia reappears:/

After SEGA took over:
Holiday Super Sale!
Thanksgiving Sale!
Sonic CD Release Sale!
Year of the Dragon Sale!
Valentine Sale!
Mission system release! No wait, that was finished and announced already before SEGA took over:(

@Jmmoormann

After Sega acquired Spiral Knights, by the end of that year, they had released the Auction House, Advance Training Hall, Snarbolax, Roarmulus Twins, Punch, Vise, accessories, arsenal stations, and featured auctions.

Also Blast Network, Lockdown, and Shadow Lairs, were added after Sega acquired Spiral Knights.

I'm well aware of how what I wrote sounds. I started... and decided not to stop. I know it takes effort, and work, and time, and money, and skill, and testing, and fixing, but I do think some of the more realistic things in that list would make the game better. If I had the talent to go work for OOO I would probably be making my own game instead.

What really saddens me about Spiral Knights is that the more I get into it the bleaker the game looks. I'm very glad we had an Admin clear this up.
