Was goin on Spiral Knights?
Aaaanyways I am this hardcore bomber/swordsman that is pretty dam good. I get some sweet trojan kills, a final hit on Vana, and some other real cool stuff! In PvE. And Im interested in PvP, but theres a problem.
I suck at Lockdown.
Like I really want to be the tanky bomber that comes in with an oversized kitchen knife and the giant shield and just wrecks!
But when I do that, I get hardly any points. The only lockdown I'm necessarily OK at is T2 LD, where I get a sealed sword and just go to work.
So, Lockdown pros, think you could give me advice? I don't want anyone telling me to go get a Chaos armor, or an Acheron (Which I have thankyouverymuch.) I still wanna be this tanky, healing kind of Knight that just caps points and racks up kills.
Think you can help?
Think you can try?
Please?
~Yours oh so truly

Completely different note: How do I make my forum guy have a picture.
So, I suck at Lockdown.
Guns are more prevalent now, so you might want to consider gun over sword as side arm. Sword doesn't protect you from gunners, and bombers always attract gunners.
When you say you "hardly get any points", I assume you meant capture points. If you meant damage points, then I'm afraid you're out of luck as a bomber. It's the worst type of weapon for getting damage at the moment.
Capturing points is actually really easy. Just remember to stay calm and focus on staying alive instead of killing the enemy. Stay on the point at all times. If you have to dodge, still try to stay at least on the edge of the circle. Especially as a bomber, you can easily keep people off the circle while you're capping. If you have a large amount of health, you can shoot back at gunners to keep them on their toes. You can also use your sword to parry any sword attack.
I disagree with Fayeth that you should never go back to base to heal. If you happen to be on your team's half of the field and a majority of your teammates are dead, that is definitely a good decision. Guardian shield heals slowly and as a tank, you need max health to operate well.
Important Note about Guardian Shield: It regenerates faster if it isn't broken. So if your shield is on low health, stop using it. Take a couple hits (dodging whenever possible) and let it regenerate completely before using it again.
If your shield breaks, you have a trump card: Dash.
Do NOT dash immediately after. Still do your best to dodge and stall. Dash only if you're being surrounded or if you're in danger of being OHKOed. Time your dash so it occurs right when the attacker gets into striking range. Dash towards the person rushing towards you then quickly pivot to face them again.
Last thing:
Never turn your back on the enemy and run away, especially with your shield up. 90% of the time they will not let you get away and you will end up getting shredded. If you can stall long enough, a striker teammate may arrive to help.
That's contris way of saying he loves you.
Learn about gear, practise, watch good people play. And have fun. xoxo
There's no real one way to play guardian. It's an unpopular class and most people play it differently. There are swordsmen/bomber hybrids like me (though I rarely play Guardian), Silver-Soule, Reto-Da-Liz (inactive), et cetera.
There are those who don't use bombs at all, who use a striker-like loadout such as Muffin-Top and Goldeneman, at least for 1v1s.
Dutch-Oven plays guns only as Guardian.
There's also Contri who plays largely with area denial i.e. Voltaic Tempest , Polaris spam, and Gran Faust. He's one of the best team players around nowadays and it's because of that. His loadout synergises with his striker buddies and that's far better than a guardian who just ignores his teammates and pretends he's alone.
The best two things you can do is to play and to watch others play so that you can learn from them. Other than that, read the guide Mengh linked. It's about being a dedicated bomber instead of being a hybrid.
A few simple things you should keep in mind:
- Don't keep your shield up all the time while fighting. It limits your movement, which you need to rely on to dodge and punish opponents. Additionally, if they hit your shield, you're stuck having it up for a little while and that can help your opponent chain into another hit.
- Don't bomb centrally on a point. Try to bomb in two places, preferably where enemies are going to come from. Just make sure to cover the point quite well.
- Get to a wall if you're in combat. Guardian is all about predicting your opponents and if you're in a corner or against a wall, your enemy has a very limited amount of ways to approach. That said, corners can be dangerous because there's no room for dodging if you're in one. If you're being attack by two strikers that could be your death.

Since the Chaos Buff the Guardian shield has become a joke... now with the addition of BK set and the GU buffs it is almost unusable. You will be lucky to tank a sword combo before you get Flourish flinch locked faster that can imagine.
You want my advice for LD? Stick with your teammates, shut down chokepoints, and cover them with your shield when they need it. Find the top scoring team member from last round and stay with them (unless they're recon) be a Pocket medic, use them to get you to the front safely and then stick with the group (provided they are competent enough to take cover in your shield).
You want my straight up advice? Don't play SK PVP....
For you, I'd suggest going kind of basic with a simple loadout, no uvs needed.
That being:
- LD class: Recon / Guardian
- Mercurial Demo set / Volcanic Demo set / Bombastic Demo set
- Warmaster Rocket Hammer / Divine Avenger / Barbarous Thorn Blade / Final Flourish
- A defensive mist bomb: Voltaic Tempest, Ash Of Agni, Stagger Storm, Venom Veiler
- An offensive bomb: Nitronome, Dark Briar Barrage, Shocking Salt Bomb, other shard bombs etc..
Once you get to T3 and acquired play around with bombs and their charges, try to make sure that you carry your team with the support of bombs.
Once you get the hang of it in T3, try changing your style a bit and use different bombs / play style.
My friends Krakob and Fayeth has a good guide on how to bomb as a guardian, where your shield does help with many situations and this guide provides much more information to check out.
