I'd like to run Snarby SL this weekend. What is the best way to go about finding some people to run with? I had plans to run with some guildies but they no-showed.

Anybody want to run Snarby SL one evening this weekend?

Separate question, Are they profitable at all?

Best way to get people for a shadow lair is to ask guildmates or other players you know can hold their own. If you haven't run them before, prepare for a world of hurt.

If you're looking for a party here on the forums, a few good guidelines to go by are to give your timezone, your desired time in your timezone to make the run, and any up-front fee you'd like players to pay. Typically it's about 450 energy, as that's 1/4th the cost of the key. However, players are stingy and will be all prissyfitting over the cost if you do have one. With energy prices at their current value I don't blame them, but make sure you list any fee up front to avoid those people.

Most shadow lairs are not entirely profitable, sans firestorm citadel. You will find radiant fire crystals however, so go for that. Running on any difficulty that's not elite will definitely not net you your energy back though, so do the runs for fun, radiants, or the armors.

How to shadow lair.

Step 1: Gather gear and sparks of life for the shadow lair, so that you'll be prepared.

Step 2: Build the gear you want to craft at the alchemy machine there. Make sure you'll have the materials etc. to craft it when there.

Step 3: Gather people that want to go on it and finance the key. Basically, you should expect to pay more than everyone else, but should hope to charge people something so that you're not set back so much and if possible charge people 1/4th of the key each. If you have a key and find 3 people, you can go.

Make sure that one of the people in your party (or more, preferably) has actually done the shadow lair before and can be the leader when it comes to what you'll need to do.

Step 4: Have everyone start at D18, and go for it. That way, you can...
A) Spot a set of people that will obviously fail and abort mission, if they all die instantly.
B) Get vitapods and pills so that you have an advantage going in and don't suffer any early casualties.

Step 5: Profit!

Good luck!

Snarby SL is not profitable. The only profitable SL is Vanaduke. It's still fun and worthwhile if you want to experience something different. You should make sure you have competent guildmates or friends organised to go with you, or else it's going to be expensive and long. If you're having trouble finding people I'm sure lots of veteran players are willing to give up their time if you waive the key fee. You can weigh up the losses.

How much of a loss would you say it is per run on Elite?

Along the lines of 200 ce

Along the lines of 200 ce loss per person, assuming you all split the key and sell the materials from the run. Honestly, shadow lairs are well worth the cost even if only for the fun of it. If you're planning on crafting gear, even better!

Off the top of my head, if you start from Emberlight (which you should so you can pick up a Vitapod, health pills, and remedies) and go through a Shadow Lair, you'll walk away with about 12k-17k crowns. The Shadow Lair mat tends to sell for about 10-15k. The Key itself is 450 Energy per person, which works out to roughly ~38.5k crowns.

And yes, I'd be interested in a Shadow Lair run. IGN: Anakletos

I'm happy to help if it's free, and you can have my mat in the end. It just takes too long and I've had enough stressful SL experiences with people who are not friends or guildies to give up time and money for Snarby SL. If you still need people you can PM me, but I'm on NZDT and hopefully you'll be able to find people who can pay instead. :) Good luck!

Given the quantity of SLs run by people looking for radiants, materials are closer to the 5-8kcrn range. Finding a buyer can often be difficult, especially for maiden tears [given that it is the most frequently used lair due to highest radiant payout].

Most people consider the energy cost to enter a shadow lair as a discounted price for radiants.
450E = 30-50 rads, depending on which lair... along with a bit of profit from crowns and the materials.
