This isn't really a suggestion, which I almost posted there, but elemental is basically a "heavenly" type I guess, looking at the grey owlite shield, or the divine set. Why in the world is shadow good against basically "shadow" there's no other reason to be. Or, it could be just because that's how they wanted it I guess....
You'd have to think Elemental would be good against the Void.
Element is not "heavenly", it's magic and the elements. If it were "heavenly", it'd be super-effective against Fiends.
Also, "Shadow" is a damage type, of dark-energy, and is different from "Void"; creatures of nothing.
Just like how dark matter and anti matter are completely different.
Most void monsters (3/5) are weak to elemental though.. the only ones that aren't are the gremlins and beasts. They don't have their usual resistances at all either, as Zurgo said. They vaguely do but not exactly.
I thought the values were bugged in that they do the same damage but they simply display as orange.
Or has this been disproven?
I can confirm that the damage resistances of Void monsters are very irregular. I tried fighting a Void gel with BTB and it seemed to deal around neutral damage. Void Wolvers and Thwackers seem to have less Elemental resistance then their normal counterparts, but I'm not sure about that. Void Zombies (and probably Lumbers too) are definitely weak to Elemental, but I don't know whether their weakness is the same as their normal counterparts
I'm not saying it is an entirely heavenly type, but just look at the items that are elemental, such as the DA, or the Grey Owlite Shield, and tell me that is something you wouldn't pull out of heaven. Void, is basically dark, just look at it, it's purely shadow/dark, even though it is void, it would still make sense for elemental would be voids weakness. And here again, basically fiends are humans, as they do human tasks (work, drink coffee, are obviously very strong with one hand, have the ability to speak, and write and use clipboards.) So it would make sense if piercing was good against them. If you were to take a Flourish and poke yourself with it, it obviously wouldn't feel pretty. Your also killing zombies, the dead, which is basically hellish, so yea.
I thought Elemental was more magical, rather than holy.
The Arcana shoots magic missiles, Divine Avenger has a magical glow about it, and the elemental armor line is the Magic set
The Divine Avenger is the exception, rather than the rule. The Grey Owlite Shield was used by the owlites, who specialized in magic, not "holiness".
Void, is basically dark, just look at it, it's purely shadow/dark, even though it is void, it would still make sense for elemental would be voids weakness
As I said before, Void is not Shadow. Void basically means no matter, Shadow basically means means no light. If they were the same thing, then you wouldn't have "Void zombies", you'd just have regular zombies. Just like how Dark Matter is not Anti Matter, black does not always inheritly mean "evil", and even 闇 and 冥 can mean quite different things although their English translation seems the same.
Shadow seems like your typical ominous, evil, necromancer-ey stuff, while Void is your Garth Nix's "Nothing". or your "Glitch Substance"
The swarm creatures still have their regular weaknesses, but I know you would think elemental would be good against it. xD
