I'll still use it for a general purpose set(divine veil+skolver=for the win), but should I get a shadow helm and an elemental helm to replace my divine veil for shadow levels/elemental levels?

Since you seem to use swords and are looking for armor, I'll just point out the armor section of my detailed sword guide again. It confirms what Fehzor has said. There's no point in getting more defense. Start collecting more offense.

Nope, the amount of health lost it would save you is fairly negligible and the price of crafting armor is pretty painful compared to what you're getting most of the time. What would help you though if you don't have it already, would be better offensive stats via something like chaos/black kat or even just vog/volcanic demo/various padded line pieces.
