Hello all,
I'm relatively a casual player (played a while back and stopped due to other games :(, picked this back up because I still feels it's an awesome game), and I'm wondering, when might the next Kataclysm event be? I have not yet gotten to participate in one in the whole time I've played this game (which isn't tooo much). But, I really am excited for it :D Just... don't know when the next one will be... the last one seemed to be last september. Unfortunately, I was not playing at that time. :/

The Kataclysmic Confrontation

The Kataclysmic Confrontation comes around twice every year (from what I've observed at least). Although I'm not exactly sure when the next one will come around, I do know we're about due for another one of those events in a few days or so. My guess is that the Tortodrone Event will be back this week or maybe even the Kataclysmic Confrontation. Regardless, just make sure to check the website and forums weekly to see what events or promos are happening to make sure that you don't miss the Kataclysmic Confrontation.

You seem to have made a few errors in the OP. If I might assist you with fixing them-

Hello all,
I'm [a] relatively [incapable of spending countless hours grinding candlestick keep kind of] player (played a while back and stopped due to other games [that actually rewarded me appropriately for putting time into the game]:(, picked this back up because I still feels it's an awesome game), and I'm wondering, when might the next [massively frustrating beat down for the prospect of receiving a single good item] be? I have not yet gotten to [watch others become wealthy over night off of the five books that dropped on their first run as I receive my five hundredth page token with nothing to show for it] in the whole time I've played this game (which [is at least half a year]). But, I['m for some strange reason] really excited [by the idea of receiving concrete evidence that the developers hate me] :D Just... don't know when the next [time I'll be disappointed on such a grand scale] will be... the last one seemed to be [whenever the developers ran out of stuff to shove in our faces in an attempt to keep us from leaving. Fortunately], I was not playing at that time. :/

To answer your question, probably between April and June, but possibly sooner/later. We really don't have much to go on.

the truth behind the reply

@Rawtekk, thanks man, yeah I am thinking the same thing, it doesn't seem that we've had any events in a while and so it does seem like at least something will be happening soon.

@Fehzor, while there is definitely truth to what you're saying in some ways, you seem a little upset. Just take it easy, it's limited, and those lucky enough to get the best kat armor are awesome, but that doesn't mean you're less awesome. Just a little unlucky. I know my chances are slim of getting the best kat armor, but I just want kat armor in general and tokens can help with that to a small extent, at least with the masks. I am mostly playing this game to relax and have fun because honestly no, the other game i went to was not giving me appropriate reward for the time I put into it. I put FAR more time into it than I have this game and it was not really all that worth it. (by the way, game was League of Legends, and unless you're challenger or on a challenger ranked 5s team, i don't think it's really that worth it, except to maybe have fun, but even then, define fun when you have a bunch of AFKs and such on your team, or people that just blatantly troll you all the time so that you lose games). haha :P I can solo this game, and it's wayyy less intense. :P

You sound so ready to have your hopes and dreams crushed............................................Nor was I "unlucky". I've had pretty mediocre luck but still SOME luck period, and the event is a very boolean sort of ordeal with respect to how you feel after it unless you're after the consolation hats. We're talking about a .5% drop rate per kat killed which might not sound so bad- just kill 200. On average, you'll find it every 200 or so kats, right? But lets say you just fought 200 kats and didn't get the drop. To think that you're now more likely to get one "because it's your time" would be what we call the gambler's fallacy. There is no progress made "towards getting the drop" when you kill the kats, and the entire thing just feels awful.

Allow me to share my cherry picked thread with you- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/100416

Well, at least that's good :)

Well, at least that's good :) I'm glad that you got something out of it. And yeah, drops are individualized to each Black Kat find. It can suck or be really awesome at 0.5 percent chance :P

No pre-promo patch this week.. so it means they are bringing something old back probably. Could be this.

yeahhhh..... spring goodieness....

not too excited over some overly white-ish green armor sets with bunny ears and such. I know it's spring and all, but I like halloween/horror themed things (like the kat event discussed here)...

Events

[sarcasm]
Well, the Harvest Festival was cool because it flooded the AH with costumes that look like crap. It's still recovering. The Apocrea was cool because we didn't have half the time we needed to farm tokens for effectively reskins. Tortodrones is the best because you need to farm devilites before you can even play the event. But, all aside, the spooky horror-style ones are actually pretty cool!

@Zek @Fehzor

@Zek @Fehzor
Fehzor, you seem to love hyperbolic invectives when describing this event. Rather than sink to that level, would you like some actual hard data about book drops and and how many BKs you'll need to kill?

Fehzor, I agree with Zek. You seem awfully stressed.
While I agree that this is the least-fun event in SK, I believe that is partially by design. OOO doesn't *want* every player to have a full BK set. They wanted to create a piece of gear for post-end-game players, that would give a hard task to those with the least to do (and offers a great reward). It also gives new players a long target "someday I will have that!"
Despite the zealous player focus, I believe the actual point of the event are the three Kat helms--not the BKC.
Is this BK and uber-rare book system a bad way of creating this scarce experience? Maybe. But BKCs have become so common and affordable that you don't need to hunt for a book to get one, so that explains the kat whisker system.
My two core complaints are 1) you can only fight Margrel (which is a fun and unique experience) if you find a book. There should be an alternate method, with a much smaller reward. That way everyone can enjoy it. :) And 2) you shouldn't need whiskers to make the other three Kat armors.

@Shadorian
The Hallow is an event geared towards newer players. You know; those guys who can't participate in things like Apocrea and Tortodrones without dying. There will never not be Hallow costumes on the AH. It's just how it works. :P

the stats are real.

@Cheshireccat
Holy Statistician. hahahaha xD Anyways,
I think you've got some good points there. I haven't gotten to fight Margrel but I'm sure it would be fun to do kind of like being able to spam killing the Royal Jelly and Vana. I mean, of course, to keep the same randomness with the black kat armor set itself, I would think they'd just make the chance of getting a whisker super small or non-existant if you were battling Margrel outside of having a book of rituals. On your second point though I would rather them simply implement a way for someone that already owns a black kat armor piece (i.e. like the black kat cloth) besides the black Kat cowl or hood that you can get with just tokens, such that the chance of getting more whiskers is increased (or you simply get more whiskers from a Margrel fight in general) if you've previously gotten an item that required a whisker. Just to alleviate the difficulty in attaining whiskers without giving up the rarity of black kat armor, which is partly what makes it so desirable, aside from the adorableness of Kats.

@Shadorian
I haven't gotten to participate in that event either, but the amount of orange and purple things in AH is pretty amusing :P

Apocrea weapons are great

Well, except for the gun, I hear it has poor chances of giving poison. The sword is great for any non-poison area with any type of healers where you can't one-hit enemies, especially for gremlins, since they come with menders and can heal themselves as well. And the bomb... oh the joy of seeing the last wave of an arena made of gremlin bombers all running around and dying by menders while mechaknights are trapped in the vortexes... The strong poison of the edge and crusher is better than the VV. Adding statuses to previously non-status type weapons is not a reskin.

Off-Topic @Halandin

Shut your lie hole, Obsidian Carbine is my favorite gun in the game. :P
Carbine is a great gun with max range, high DPS, and is all-around useful. It doesn't really matter that the poison is low; it's helpful when it hits AND is much better than the GremM on Sentenza.
Four guns cover every level I have ever gunnered: Blitz, Grim Repeater, AP, and Carbine. (I would now like to have a moment of silence for our good friend, Polaris. He was nerfed before his time.)

I know many people prefer Ach to the Obs sword. Sure Obs does poison, but the extra damage lets Ach kill in fewer hits. There are a couple of depths where Edge can't kill a mender in the 3 hit combo but the Ach can. Same principle applies to the charge.
Obs is still good though; it comes down to a personal player preference.

@ Chesh

If you want a better poison chance on the Carbine then try pairing it with an Electron Vortex. This should allow you to get off a charge attack on the enemies which has nearly guaranteed poison.

@Cheshireccat

Yea I was having a bad day as I typically do each and every day when I wrote that. But I will say that that was about how the black kat event felt 4-5 days in, grinding constantly with no drops.. and I really would like for it to be changed in some way to make it more enjoyable.

I'm also going to have to call out your explanation of why the items are so hard to come by- in the original event, the book and cowl were treated as a secret with no 3*/4*/raiments/whiskers to give them away. They hinted at the existence of such an item in the announcement, but they never explicitly said that it was even in the game... so no, I don't think that it was intended to challenge advanced players or their wallets, but rather as a fun and interesting secret item, akin to the darkfang shield.

Original announcement: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/73222

The thing I really hate about it is the whiskers + stuff giving away the existence of the items, as well as the incredible stats on black kat.. which make the other kat hats look like a bad joke. Instead of being a fun hidden item, it's the focus of the event and it just feels bad. Instead of that, the black kat cowl should have either been fair to earn (i.e. mewkat can use 1000 pages instead, or a book drop is guaranteed every 200 black kat kills without one), or otherwise inconsequential- like if black kat was earnable like the other kat cowls (and all had viable stats), and Margrel just gave a random 5* kat hat to one knight. Instead of getting something like this, we got the whiskers and 3* kat cowl.

Now tell me that you farmed for a black kat cowl without using alternate accounts and enjoyed the wonderful challenge it posed to you with a straight face.

pattern

I haven't red all of the comments so sorry if I reapeat after someone but there was there is an there propably always will be the pattern: B Kats > Apocrea > torto > B kats > ap > to > bk > ap... ( and events like cupcakes/halloween/x-mes wich are always around the same time once per year )
