Rage Going Too Far?

Rage is one thing, but why is it that players in this game take it as a personal attack when they either get outplayed or have better/worse gear than another player? I have noticed that people tend to base a person's character almost entirely on the way they play Lockdown or if that player is straight out better/worse / has better/worse gear. I know many who post on this forum fit this criteria of hating blindly, and to that I ask you, why?

Before I get responses of people using their defense mechanism to insult me or down play this question, just know that I am serious and I don't mean to troll or insult. I am genuinely interested in why people feel the need to be so upset over virtual reality.

EDIT: I've also noticed that people complain constantly about Auto Target and to that I am also puzzled. It's a built-in game mechanic that isn't game breaking. If it made you permanently invincible then I would understand. I see people say things like, "You suck if you can't play without Auto Target," and to that I ask, "Why does it matter?" Why is it that a player's skill in Lockdown quantifies their worth as a human being (or Knight, in this case)?

AT is something that redirects your aim when you miss. If you use AT it's because you can't aim well and that means that you suck. That's a fact.
It doesn't quantifies your "human being" like you said but it quantifies your skill in LD.

AT can sometimes make the difference between a split second miss and a killing blow. It's not a game changer... Except it is when it costs you precious time in a fast-paced game. Of course people get mad. Whether they can get over it and adapt the next time, or whether they choose to whine about it is another story. One is more effective than the other. Everyone wants to win, it's the same in any competition and not exclusive to LD or even games in general.

@Contri: But that's the thing. Why do people care if one sucks or not at a video game? If they essentially, "get more skills" with AT, why not let them have fun with it? It's just interesting to me that another person's well-being concerns many players so much that they have to tell them how to play "the correct way." Maybe you aren't one of these negative people who judge others this way, but to those who do, I am asking why.

@Leekcoco: Understandable. I get that everyone wants to win no matter what they do. What I'm wondering is why people have to hold it like a grudge when things don't go their way, be it losing an entire match to as little as dying one or two times to a "noob." I've seen instances of people berating others in Haven after a match for several minutes over a game. Some people simply deem a player not worthy of their time in other instances just because they feel superior for being good at a video game.

For instance, I make more money than a lot of people in real life and I don't go around putting others down for being less fortunate or being below my level for that matter. Because of my humble life, it just concerns me when people become so conniving when they have a taste of power, let alone power in something that is ultimately meaningless.

They're immature. There's no deep meaning behind it. I don't like AT either but you can't control how other people play. Makes it more satisfying when you learn to beat them instead.

it's really funny

People who get mad at people who use auto target are just mad because one day some one beat them in lockdown with it, so they started to cry and now they will never forgive .... and never forget :(

(Edit : Most Humans * idunwannageneralise) Humans can't deal with the fact that there's always someone better. The truth hurts, and when they're told the truth they get hurt, they can't deal with it and they go into denial, they get angerwy :(. So they try to make the person that outplayed them come down to their level by putting them down with words/names that mean pretty much nothing (i.e. Sucker, noob, newb, nub, scrub etc ).

Though I feel like the people complaining about AT are hypocrites. They're fine with the Sealed sword line that has a 180 degree range that kills in two hits, but they're not fine with AT, which does NOT correct to that high of a degree. And this is what I mean before, they go into denial and will blame anything so that their glass-like feelings won't get tapped and shattered.

The human ego is a funny thing.

@Spiral-Trole I don't care about people skill and I can easily beat all AT users like everyone here knows, but I don't like the fact that people abuse AT and make the game boring for the newbies/average players killing them again and again without effort and without giving them a chance.

angry over nothing

SK LD is hardly what I would consider a 'competetive' pvp game. Sure you fight but game play isnt balanced (obvious since Striker is the most used class).

Eventually it all degrades into a bunch of rich players beating on each other and then running back to spawn to heal. LD has become about who reacts faster and better. Cooperation is minimal as due to invinciframes, and the only rewarding plan is the hit and run.

Holy-Nightmare's right.

I don't think OOO designed LD with an intention of it ever being an MLG game. They made it so that the players could have fun ( What the heck else are games for ? ).. And look what we've done. Human nature, nothing's never enough.. This is why OOO ( probably ) doesn't want to "fix" ( it's really fine the way it is. You can easily have fun IF you want to ) things for lockdown, people will always find something else to complain about.

As much as I appreciate everyone's input so far, I would like to hear someone's personal take on the situation. Someone who actually does have a genuine hatred for others because of Lockdown experiences. So far, people are saying "They do this and that" but nobody has really stepped forward to expose themselves for being in these shoes. We can all say what we think people are feeling and how people should behave, but I want to know from someone who is actually there right now what goes through their head when they want to hate someone for playing a video game a different way.

I like to compare LD to

I like to compare LD to Smash. Smash was never supposed to be a competitive game and isn't balanced for high level play at all, yet because it was fun and had potential depth in terms of mechanics/skill/tactics it cultivated a competitive community around it. It doesn't matter what OOO's intentions were for LD, it's the players that make the game what it is.

That being said, LD as it stands will never have the same potential as Smash due to it's shortcomings, and "fixing" LD (balancing, more features, quality of life changes) would require OOO to change their design goals with the game. They totally should, but they wont.

##edit##
To answer your last post Trole, I have played LD for looooong time now, and personally still rage when I see players who've been going even longer than me STILL using auto-target, STILL spawn camping and STILL spamming Polaris. Some of these people have max UVs and great connections. I don't rage because they beat me (they don't a lot of the time), I rage because they are either knowingly or unknowingly upsetting the balance of fair play during the match. Because the game isn't balanced by default it resides with the players to regulate fair play in order to keep the game being fun for everyone. Everybody can have their AT on and polaris' blasting away non-stop but then what happens to the game? People get bored, frustrated, start leaving, the game dies. The game is at its most fun when people feel they are being fairly challenged. That's my opinion on all this anyway.

@ Trole,
I've raged coz of lag a few times ( and when I rage, I punch my computer and cry in the corner ), I don't take it out on other people though, since it's really my own fault for not predicting.

The only hate I've had towards people was coz of AT - When people constantly use it as an excuse for getting outplayed. I'll let you protect your ego a few times but if you can't take it like a wo/man, you've just lost the little respect you may have had from me. I'll disown/block you and s*** on you all day ( it's an idiom, calm down, that's so unsanitary ). Blaming AT/lag/whatever makes my head come off. It's an insult to the person that outplayed you, he/she outplayed ( killed ) you fair and square. And when you insult a person that outplayed you, they won't be the only one to kill you. I'll kill you until you die to death and then use the 7 dragon balls to revive you, only to do it again. ( Yes, figuratively, good job ).

It's your own fault for NOT dodging, NOT distancing, NOT predicting, NOT knowing your own latency, NOT being good enough and NOT playing better than the person that outplayed you, auto-target or not. But you can always get better, there's always room for improvement - no matter how good you are, deal with it and get better. You can always improve to be a higher fraction of perfection.

PS. The 2nd person pronouns aren't aimed at you, Trole.
