Pick up and "BOP" things: Sick of having to drop what you're holding to break things? Here's how to fix it! Bombs included!

Ever get annoyed of running the FSC levels and picking up the sprites only to have to drop them to destroy a meaningless obstruction?

Bring out the "BOP" update!

Allow players to smack things with whatever they're holding for a very small amount of damage (it'd be pretty fun to kill monsters while doing this, or even players in LD). This would help bombers breaking things by having them smack boxes/minerals/other obstructions or even low-health monsters.

I really think as a bomb/sword user that it's annoying when I accidentally pick up a bomb for a second and then it slows down everything I'm doing (except to joke around and make it look like I'm smoking). I also can't imagine how bothersome it would be as a bomber to charge 3 bombs for a mineral. Plus when I'm holding something (ex: statue) and I just need to break something, or shield bump a monster out of the way I can't without dropping it. This would be great in those situations, and really isn't going to break the game.

I would also love to bop monsters that are acting silly (like the mating slags).

Hmm.

Why not add a new type of special shield? Like, one with a large spike on the front that deals very little damage but deals some when you walk into things while shielding? Could also have a much higher-damage shield bash. You could just walk into a mineral or a rock while shielding and break them.

I don't think we should be able to attack while holding a sprite/key/vial. I do, however, think that if we press a vial key after pulling one out that we should be able to put it away or drop it on the ground for ourselves.

Umm well that I imagine may be more difficult/time consuming than just adding the bop. Except for when doing for the lulz, this isn't intended to be a form of attack.

Why not be able to attack with them?

They're supposed to disable you

When playing solo it's annoying to have to drop the key to fight, but there's a reason you drop the key when you get hurt, and that's because it's supposed to slow you down or be strategic, such as to clear all the enemies.

A new shield class itself that can break blocks faster than bombs but slower than other weapons (walk back and forth to break the blocks) would make it not just a new bomber shield, but something other classes might want to grab, especially if they have slower weapons.

The boop you recommend helps only bombers or players holding an object. A new shield benefits any class that wants to make them, and adds another fun thing about shield bashing.
I would think these shields would only resist a pure damage type, so normal, shadow, elemental, or piercing as to make them a more "specialized" shield and creating the idea for an offensive shield that isn't just power boosts.
This also makes sure that we don't have to add another button into the game, hurting controller players.

Hmm... well I wasn't saying we wouldn't drop it if we got hit. Only we'd be able to attack with it. Maybe just make the shield button bop when holding something?

New shield is hard work, and so far OOO doesn't do that for small things like 1 shield.

A new mechanic has hard coding in it. Dash and bash didn't just poof into existence. A new shield would be using existing mechanics + 1 new one, and not throw off balance anywhere in the game.

Granted, your suggestion doesn't either. Honestly it's two solutions to the same problem that overlap into different areas. I figure we can add new content into the game that's genuinely useful (shields) rather than just implement a new ability that will only be so useful, and even then only when holding an item. Charging a bomb wouldn't have this power if it's activated by the shield button.

Basically, a shield will prevent this from being used in lockdown/blast network and also make bombers in the clockworks have an easier time with blocks of the sorts (and puzzles that require precision).
