I have been playing Spiral knights for a good few years now on and off
Why on and off? Well used to be cause of the Mist energy ruining my good streak then I just got confused on what I was supposed to do then I forgot my pwd etc etc.
But aside from that is there any hints of some more updates (content wise) in the future

No, the expectation for Three Rings to release things they mentioned almost two years ago has died down considerably as has the frequency of general bug fixes and any update not related to promotional items and costumes.
Spiral Knights has entered a somewhat shady period (moreso than normal) and no-one is sure when this questionable haze of non-updates will be lifted.
