World's Tourny 2015?

Is there any mention of holding a 2015 5v5 guild/team LD tournament this year? I see a lot of 1v1 discussion but, I would like to put together an event through my team Hellion 5 Esports - as I not only think a 5v5 tourny would be great fun to watch live and to cast but, also to expand the team's footprint on the e-sports scene. If there is a discussion about this I would love to join in; otherwise, thoughts? I think holding something in June or late July/August would be convenient for most players; however, I'm hoping to hear from you guys to find out how many people are interested so I can plan this thing out and maybe get some sponsors.

tl;dr - LD is a great game format for e-sports and would be a fun and lighthearted scene that I would like to help revive/establish.

I'd be interested in it - no idea if Halcyons would be up for it then but if a proper bullcrap free anything goes tournament is hosted, I'd perhaps donate a bit to the prize pool. Just some things I'm wondering about.

- Why 5v5?

- Why cast it? SK is one of the least strategic team based non-death match based team games I've ever seen, there's no enstablished audience for livestreams, and I don't mean to be rude, but do you have any insight into how to lead a LD team or what's important in fights or their outcome? I don't recognise your name at all so I'm wondering just where in the LD scene you are.

I'm open to a 1v1 bracket as

I'm open to a 1v1 bracket as well and I also feel it would make a great stream; I just believe that a 5v5 matchup would be more accessible to an e-sports community that is unfamiliar with SK as a whole and, perhaps, more familiar with the moba genre to which they might be able to make a connection given the general correlation to (e-)sports. For a western audience who might not be as receptive to a 1v1 tournament for which the strategy may or may not make sense or hold much weight with them: the idea of team vs team is deeply set and most people can relate with that. Also, the 5v5 bracket would bring a lot more intensity to the stream and be a lot of fun to cast. Which, in the same vein, casting would allow the audience who might be unfamiliar with the game format to establish a better connection and appreciate the gameplay more. And, as for your last question, yes I do know how to lead and LD team I have been playing LD since this game came out - it's just that I've been inactive from the scene for a little while so that's probably why you haven't seen me around.

I'm interested. And I'm sure that most of my guildies would like to join too.

Good to hear, but I'm still skeptic to 5v5s. Why not just use the regular team size of 6?

Oh yes 6 sorry that's what I meant. Wasn't trying to make an argument above for 5v5 just had a consistent brain fart in those posts. Anyways, I'm glad to hear you guys are interested! I'll contact my manager tonight and we can get some sign up forms and what not started so that your guild members can register at their convenience.

I hope there's some way to regulate the members in these teams seeing as half the charting guilds right now are mostly played for by subs. Is there any rule behind who qualifies as a "member"? If this doesn't end up being organisation hell it would be an interesting watch. I miss the days when guild teams actually had some integrity and team strategy behind them.

Leekcoco I understand your

Leekcoco I understand your concern for integrity in an event like this as I can see how it might not cast the community in a pleasant light if all the matches seemed very one-sided; and, I want you to know that, I share this concern as well. For this reason I believe it would be beneficial for all players to at least have a presence on my teamspeak server (petmemain.com - feel free to join we're pretty laid back and always open to new people who share our gaming interests) during the event where their name on the server should match their in-game-name and, thus, I would be able to see if anyone switched their name and joined another team (via server logs and ip addresses). Let me know how you all feel about this. I'm not requiring anyone to use voice chat or own a mic just to download the program and join the server.

OK everyone here is the [EDIT: link removed]. Please let me know if you have any questions. I would encourage you all to signup yourselves and to ask your guildmates to sign up as well! I'm hoping to get as many people as we can into this thing so if you're just hanging out in Haven talk to other people and also encourage them to join! I think this is going to be a lot of fun and we are already accumulating a prize pool and in the works of talking to Three Rings to see if we can't get some sponsors.

Wait, will we play on both servers? Because playing only on US server would be a great disadvantage for the EU players.

Really hope it isn't a USA

Really hope it isn't a USA server only tournament because that would suck... also if you're talking to three rings you should ask them to make sure there's no aimbot(Auto Target) in the event and to possibly help setting up 1v1s so we don't have to waste a ton of time getting 10 players on along side the 2 contestants.

My question is, can you sign up for both the 1v1 bracket AND the guild beacket?

Also, does each team member represented in a guild have to sign up? Or will a representitive (such as a guild master) sign up only and fill in names of the team members participating.

I see there is some interest

I see there is some interest in expanding this tournament to EU and I think that is a great idea! I will have my manager create another sign up form for EU users and will post it here later tonight. As far as AT is concerned I will be sure to mention this in my communications with Three Rings. I believe that if the community does not want this feature used in the matches then I will do my best to make sure that the integrity of these matches is uniform and preserved throughout the tournament. As for the crossover of EU vs NA I think that a finals matchup of 2 sets of games played by the top individuals/teams from each region for the title of "world champion" - where one set is played on the NA server and one set is played on the EU server - would be a fun thing to do and would make a great showdown for this event. And, as far as signups with regards to brackets are concerned: you can sign up for both the 1v1 and the guild v guild bracket given that your guild has a full team ready to participate in the event. Now, if you have some members that can't signup for whatever reason or you want to "wing" it and create a guild full of ringers for the event then the guild master themselves can be the only person who signs up; however, come the time of your scheduled match if you do not have a team put together by then your guild will be disqualified - so start looking for members! Please let me know if you have any more questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability and will get that EU signup form posted tonight. I'm glad to see the interest (perhaps turning into enthusiasm? :) ) and I hope to make this a great event!

tl;dr - EU signup form will be posted tonight, AT will either be all off/on depending on either the integrity of the players or the help of Three Rings, and you can sign up for both the 1v1 and the guild v guild.

You might wanna put the links to the signup forms in the OP so people don't lose track of them. As for getting OOO to help out with the AT and stuff, I doubt you'll have any luck with that but good luck nevertheless. I'd love to see some interest in LD from OOO's side for once.

Question time.

How long do we have to sign up to this ? Will there be any rules(such as weapon restrictions) ? What would be the prizes?(asking for your honest guess at them since you said you were working on getting sponsors)

Thanks!

I'm aiming to have the

I'm aiming to have the tournament when school gets out for summer vacation so that more people will be able to participate: I'm thinking late June. However, depending on Three Ring's involvement it may get pushed back as late as August in order to give them time to develop a feature for the game that I am requesting. There will be no weapon restrictions unless the community (e.g. everyone posting here and the folks over in the Spiral Knights sub-Reddit) unanimously agrees that there are some broken items that would make the playing field unfair for all contestants. The prizes so far will be awarded to the top 3 teams from each region and, if possible, to the winner of the NA vs EU matchups (the "world champions"). The prizes so far will be energy but, I am working to find sponsors for the event so: hopefully, we can get some nice products from whoever would like to sponsor this event. Let me know if you have any more questions and don't forget to sign up and tell your friends!

Nice

Sounds cool. I will see if any Impervious players would sign up for this so that we too can join the GvG thingy. Will there be some sort of official announcement made by OOO so that it can go viral in the Spiral Knights community?

Also I don't mind doing some sort of trailer for it and posting it on my YouTube channel to announce it (Goldeneman1)

Questions, questions, questions..

1. Are there specific rules, or is it just like regular LD?
2. I agree, it's either AT is not allowed for everyone, or AT is allowed for everyone. I believe many on the forums would like the former suggestion. My request would be to have the same rules for both servers (NA and EU) to avoid arguments if one server lets the players have AT.
3. What if you wish to participate in GvG tourney but you doubt enough guildies in your guild will want to play? Will you automatically be put into another guild? Or will you just not be able to play GvG at all?
4. Must it be required for us to input our name in the sign-up form?

P.S. Thank you Eman for putting this on Guild announcements :3 I never check forums

Apologies, but we can't have solicitations, or links to solicitations, for real-life money here, no matter how gentle. Going to have to lock this. Thanks for understanding.
