Allow me to introduce a special use shield, the Assasain's Shadow. This shield is small, shaped like a buckler, and it's most important feature is it's lightweight characteristics. This shield works similar to the SSB by deploying a speed boost, but it instead deploys MSI Very High and increases the knight's movement speed. However, although it has this great benefit, the ASW is a WEAKER shield than the SSB. It's 3 star much like the SSB, but it has only about 80% of the defensive power of the SSB, and defends against shadow damage. In appearance it resembles an Iron Buckler, but the metal is deep black and the shield has poison-green and purple parts similar to the SSB.

Err

Gonna pop in and again mention how MSI is a rare stat. At most it should have MSI: medium, but more likely just low.
Potentially it could give MSI: low and an additional 5-10% sprite cooldown. Or give MSI: low and sword ASI: low.

MSI is something that shouldn't be too common. Regardless of the substandard defenses it would be too much at MSI: VH.

Excuse me, but your argument states simply that MSI shouldn't be common because it is not common. Care to elaborate more?

No... the weakness of "AssassAin's Shadow" is no weakness at all. Even if the shield gave nothing but MSI (no shield-cancel tech, nor shieldbash, bumping, blocking) I'd still use it because MSI max would be utterly ridiculous and MSI max with speed-boost orb would probably be like using Striker boost.

As far as I can recall, the devs have stated that the reason why they're stingy on the MSI is because people are supposed to move at roughly similar speeds so that people tend to stick together.
The bigger issue with MSI, is that it invalidates a lot of enemies' attacks. With this massive source of MSI, you would be able to walk out of most dangerous situations (given enough space, you usually are only limited in space if you walked yourself into corners). The only enemies that are still a threat are Puppies, Devilites, and Gorgos depending on how bad you are at predicting when and where they'll attack, but they aren't any issue if you have enough space.

MSI shouldn't be common because there are good reasons for it to not be common. This is basically what I've said in the "Mercurial Bomber MSI med" suggestion a few days ago or whatever.

Basically what Qwez said

MSI is a very powerful stat. In this game you can either dodge or shield, and this one shield would be like having the guardian shield in PvE. Sure, it won't save you, but it's useful in about every situation you find yourself in.

MSI is powerful against monsters allowing you to dodge, it also separates your team. Essentially, MSI kills shields, and in this game your shield is your life. Sure you can play shieldless, but when you do you lag behind in both combat effectiveness and survival.

I would say that having offensive/mobility bonuses overall in a shield is overpowered enough as-is, considering how much of the popular "armors" are basically just used for their bonuses and not for their actual purpose.

It's safe to say that defense rating in this game is... to put it bluntly, useless, since all you really need is the ability to shield bump (I think it's 2*+ shields?) and your dash button every 10 or so seconds to outlive most, if not all of your adversaries. The only exception would be status resistances since with enough of those you could walk through status-only attacks (like the Skelly's breath, or the spit from the lizards), and the Plate shield series, because huge normal defense/HP makes it much more resistant to general attacks than most shields (at least in my experience).

An example would be the SSB and the BTS: they're nice shields overall, but why use them over their literal equivalents if they posses the ability to buff you? There's more utility in getting offensive equipment rather than defensive ones (As the saying goes, "They can't hurt me if I kill them first!"), however you still get the same scale of defense as much as any other equivalent "defensive armor/shield" despite wanting to go offensive. Why is this a thing?

It's a nice idea and I would love to see it, but I personally don't think any more buffing shields should make an appearance in the game unless a massive armor/shield rebalance happens.
