I think that there are a lot of items in SK that you dream of but you can never get.

So they should make try-out items. Only visible to you and for a limited time only. Anyone else will just see you with what you were previously wearing before you got a try-out item. This wouldn't be a very hard thing to update either, as all they have to do is give you a 'try out' button on items and make them limited.

This way people can try items, if they don't like them, they wouldn't have to spend loads of crowns just to be disappointed.

This wouldn't be possible with weapons though, as they effect the damage, the charge and a lot of other stuff.

lol

I like this system and it would just be like renting. How about in the button, there can be rates like 100 crowns for 1 hour, 500 for 5 hours and 1000 for a day. I think that would be pretty cool crown sink. Hope OOO does it.

Would also be cool if we could implement this system in guilds and between players and not only have it only for auction. The item that is rented would be untradeable and would be immidiately sent back to the owner of the item once time is up. I would love this system.

+1 for idea but...

I would implement it a bit differently and heavily involve a new section in the Advanced Training Hall and Private Training Hall. Similar ideas include holographic monsters - so new players can learn that trojans are quite bad at dancing.

Basically, the game will have every possible item available from a menu the two Training Hall types - access a new shiny "Amazing Arsenal Station" now in the center of the Training Hall which contains all items in the game. Select items from the menu while at this Amazing Arsenal Station and they will equip to you - basically like the preview server arsenal. Your rank does not matter here - noobs can try out how a Gran Faust feels and whatnot. Use for as long as you want - the items you equip will remain until you change or leave the area. Go to the Amazing Arsenal Station to change stuff up. Experiment with how movement speed feels. Know what it's like to have full penalties equipped and walk over hazards. You can do this for as many item slots as you have equipped (2-4 for weapons etc.) to practice shielding, switching, and so on. This would make a lot more sense if you had holographic monsters (of your choosing) to fight. All items in here are heated to level 10 by experienced NPCs, but they lack unique variants. Of course, you can use your own items by equipping them from your personal arsenal in junction with "new" items and so on.

For holographic monster battles (I picture transparent blue-hued projections of trojans and whatnot), they could be spawned in that area with the shufflebot things instead of the shufflebots via an interface. This is somewhat similar to the Simulacrum in Warframe but tailored to SK's needs of course. You'd select how many of what kind of enemy you'd like to fight and have at it. Want to fight alone? Say so or find a private training hall. Or fight with others to learn how to taunt them trojans while your buddies take them down.

This would also let players (veterans and younglings alike) know what's "out there" via in-game interfaces. We can do this now by sticking our noses in the files, but having stuff in-game would be so nice and a lot more reliable.

Come to think of it, Bechamel could have a pad like this where you can preview any accessory/costume in the game, preview and while walking around...hmmmmm...

I suppose this would be a Training Hall Update/Revamp that could be commemorated by prize boxes featuring holographic weapon accessories (prismatic or blue-holo flickering bomb bando? I might wear that).

i like..

I like the idea dracora, but i feel it needs to be limited like puting in some kinda time limit on how long the players spend in the training room so that they can just sample the items and go after the item in the clockworks after their day time limit is done. Something like an hour everyday, and tbey can extend those time limits by spending 5 energy.

Hmm

I would limit that to just the Amazing Arsenal Station. But I don't think there needs to be a time limit at all, people tend to want to "go go go" in my experience - besides, if holograms don't drop crowns (duh they won't, just emphasizing), most people won't spend a ton of time with them anyway, especially older players. Why work without pay when you can just um...do the same motions in the actual clockworks and get paid. The rest of the TH needs to function normally for various reasons (weapon dmg testing and others).

I had a funny thought - randomized loadout option. Don't know what you want to test out? Let RNG decide for you. Equips random stuff onto your knight out of the Amazing Arsenal Station.

hmmm

maybe your right dracore. The reason i say limit is because OOO usually looks for profit in any work they do and i thought i could design a way fir them to get that profit.

Also for the monster hollgrams, why not make it a game for guilds where the guild members will go kill the monsters and after they kill them a counter will rise and when the counter fills up max, that monster will become available in the guild private training hall. This way it's like an acomplishment to get all holagramed monsters. Or we can just invent a scanner device that playera can use to scan every kind of one monster once, in order to unlock that monster for the guild hall. So for example, in order to unlock the puppy holagram in the training hall, the guild member will have to scan every kind of puppy monster including the love puppy hehe. I think that would make it kind of fun.

Hmm

I think all monsters should be available to fight (perhaps even bosses) in the advanced training halls no matter if you've collected data on them or not (the NPCs did it or something), the point is to train so you can face the real thing later, and it would only take like a day for the community to stock up the TH with encounters, so yeah. For guilds, I could see scanning being a fun activity for the entire guild hall as long as you have a private training hall (which has all the monsters in it, like the advanced training hall, with tier manipulation) and participate in scanning. They would be like little very much more realistic "holograms" that wander about harmlessly. These would be furniture and for fun, like the Curious Mewkat, Zombie Bellhop, and Snipes. A guild would earn each one with several scans. I'm fond of the idea of a codex (old thread btw).

yep

I think the public advance training hall should be limited where it only contains the first tier 1 boss and tier 2 level monsters And No event monsters and rare monsters available. Well maybr some limited tier 3 monsters as well and just a super weak version of vanaduke.

While a private training hall after collecting the scans could have all the even monsters, rare monsters, and all other types of monsters.

Also, the knights who are not in guilds can have a limited memory storage codex that could contain a max of 10 monsters of any kind wish they could keep on them to load at the advance training hall to yrain by themselves or with friends. If a player wishes to expand his memory, they can buy extra 5 slot storage space with energy at suply depo.

I think that would be a coool addition.

Here's ideas on all this

Renting items is a good idea - however you should rent them from the supply depot for about 50 energy per star level. They last a single day, are at heat level 0, and cannot be leveled up. These items do not count towards missions so you can't equip it to pass the hall of heroes.

For the whole "try out any weapon", I like that idea. For the training halls however limit it to a certain depth (one per tier) and lock it to the normal difficulty. This makes weapons seem even more powerful, but also makes using actual weapons in the clockworks harder for players.

And, here's an idea, what about if in guilds you could preview any accessory inside of the guild storage (of your rank or lower) while using Bachamel inside the guild hall? Would allow you to see what things look like in-game and all, and allow you to optimize your costume without spamming accessories and costumes out of the storage. We already have the guildless system in place (AKA, current one), so this would be a good addition.

not sure

@fangel:

About renting weapons, i am not sure hmmm. maybe it would be okay for newbies to rent to go on a run with the high level players, but i feel the rate should not be a set price. I feel it should be by ranking where when your a squire, you can rent for 10 energy, and moves up by 10 fom then on, until they reach vanguard. Although i am really unsure about renting any kind of gear that newbie players can use in the clockworks, but i am definitely sure that the rented weapons should not be able to be used in LD.

The energy renting system can be like this:

# ↓ Rank ↓ Associated Star Level ↓

(0) ☆☆☆☆☆
1 Recruit: Cost 1 energy to rent equipment that is the same star level. For every star gear that is higher then this star, it would cost 10 more energy. So a 5 star gear would cost 101 energy to rent as a recruit.

(1) ★☆☆☆☆
2 Apprentice: cost 5 energy to rent equipment that is the same star level. For every star gear thet is higher star, it cost 9 more. So a higher star gear would cost 77 to rent a 5 star gear.

(2) ★★☆☆☆
3 Squire: Cost 10 energy to rent same star. Cost 8 more energy for every star level higher for rent. So a 5 star gear would cost 66 energy.

(3) ★★☆☆☆
4 Soldier: Cost 15 eenrgy to rent same star. cost 7 more energy for every star level higher for rent. so 5 star gear would cost 57 to rent.

(3) ★★★☆☆
5 Knight: Cost 20 energy to rent same star. Cost 6 more energy for every star level higher for rent. so a 5 star gear would cost 50 energy to rent.

(4) ★★★★☆
6 Knight Elite: Cost 25 energy to rent same star. Cost 5 more energy for every star higher for rent. So a 5 star gear would cost 45 energy to rent.

(4) ★★★★☆
7 Defender: Cost 30 energy to rent same star gear matching rank. Cost 4 more energy for every level higher for rent. So a 5 star gear would cost 42 energy for rent.

(5) ★★★★★
8 Defender Elite: Cost 35 energy to rent gear matching rank. Cost 3 more energy for every level higher for rent. So a 5 star gear would cost 41 energy for rent.

(5) ★★★★★
9 Champion: Cost 40 energy to rent gear matching rank. Cost 0 more energy for every star higher gear for rent. So a 5 star gear would cost 40 energy to rent.

(5) ★★★★★
10 Vanguard: Cost 35 energy to rent all 5 star gear. Every gear that is lower rank can be rented for 5 energy less then the 5 star energy price. So a 4 star gear would cost 30, 3 star gear cost 25, 2 star gear would cost 20 and so on.

What i mention towards the end for vanguard only aplies to vanguard players and no other rank. The way the wiki does it is that you gain 5 star label around defender elite, but i do it where you get 5 star label when you have reached champion rank. So it's a small change.

I agree with your second point but only when it comes to the advance public training hall. When it comes to private training halls, any setings should be possible. I mean it cost so much for a guild to unlock their advance training halls, so why not allow it the freedom.

I completely agree with this system and i feel i have already suggested this in a way that is very similar from this post ( http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/109503#comment-992179 ). We could rent things that are in the guild storage that are not items that are used for alchemy. Just gear and accessories.

I guess previewing is not the same thing as renting so i think your post is original lol.

I don't really think you

I don't really think you should pay any energy or crowns.

It's just a try out and I don't think it'd be nearly as popular if it costed.

Well err...

For renting gear to use in general you need to be the appropriate star rank. I'm talking about renting items from the depot directly to use in the clockworks and even lockdown. You cannot heat or get UVs on these items, so it's not like it's going to be OP. At worst a defender elite is going to have an easier time in lockdown... Not really any big negatives I can spot. If we use the supply depot that means you can't really try out anything outside of your rank level.

Having costs on items makes it so our crowns get taken out of the system. We need more crown sinks that are effective anyways.
Besides, this encourages players to actually make the item rather than buying them off the depot. Potentially if you didn't equip the item after you started the rent it would refund you your energy when it's taken back the the supply depot.

In training halls? In training halls I'm all for players being able to customize weaponry and armors that they don't own to see how it handles. Let us control every aspect inside training halls, but we can't bring these items outside the hall with us.

agreed.

I agree with you fangel. I dont have anything more to add except i with the forums had a thumbs up button so that i don't have to post i agree with a post. I can just click thr thumbs up button. And next to the thumbs up, there can be a small drop down list showing who click they agreed. Oh well, don't think the forums will be updated anytime soon.
