Last time we had an announcement like this, we had about 2 or 3 days of teasers and then new missions were released. Looks like we'll be revisiting firestorm citadel, huh.
This also explains why the patch notes from February were unstickied.

I just realized something...
Know there's that big machine after Vanaduke in FSC? It didn't look busted up like the one after the Royal Jelly...
Perhaps Herex brought the artifact through FSC after we cleared it? With nothing in his way he'd have a pretty easy time getting to that machine. That would actually be a really neat way to bring us back to the citadel.
I'm still going to run normal fsc. At least it gives tokens
Do I sense time travel? Because that sure looks like FSC before it became 100% burnt.
@Fangel
Don't forget there are 3 kingdoms - JK palace, FSC, and one we haven't visited yet. Reread some of the dialog from the lab if this doesn't seem familiar.
I could've sworn the three kingdoms were were 3 kingdoms, such as Almire and the other two that truced to take over Almire. That's more from the wiki, but perhaps I should actually visit the lab other than to do that one mission where we get introduced to Herex.
But I mean, this whole place looks like Firestorm Citadel 2: Electric Boogaloo. Personally I doubt it's the other kingdom, but I mean time will tell.
"Do I sense time travel? Because that sure looks like FSC before it became 100% burnt."
Keep in mind that the Nature Sprites were "summoned to this realm to extinguish the unnatural fire that is consuming [the Firestorm Citadel]", but Vanaduke discovered and imprisoned them. And we freed them and took down Vanaduke so nothing's stopping them from doing their thing.
@Skepticraven: I thought the third kingdom was the Scarlet Fortress?
To me, the screenshots look like what would happen after we leave the Sprites to do their work, post-Vanaduke. My guess is that the Sprite's restoration effort might have hit a snag.
I think this is probably going to be a nature-repaired version of FSC (reusing the map like a SL) BUT it's more fun to speculate!!
Ok, so it's pretty clear Cradle is made up of patchwork pieces stolen from a dozen other worlds. Any two palaces may (or may not) have been located in the same world, but it's a reasonable assumption that each monster group came from a different world.
Almire Castle: VD was king, they were invaded a lot by "other kingdoms", he started breaking bad and everything caught fire. This world has knights and nature sprites, not sure what else.
Jellies: MAY have brought their palaces (regular flavor and cool mint) with them. It's equally likely they found the palaces on Cradle and moved in. If that's the case the palaces could have come from anywhere.
Owlite (Sages? Mages?): Had a huge flippin' tower (probably ivory, judging from all the books). Liked hoodies, books, and feathers. Hated cats.
Kat Tribes: Did not have a tower. Liked pillaging, explosions and eating paper. Hated towers.
Tower was all blow'd up by a green and tan cat. He was a badass.
Scarlet Fortress: Fortress is like a castle. Has Kats and Jellies. Does anyone remember if it has books? If so it might be part of the Owlite Tower?
Candlestick Keep: ...or was this part of the Owlite Tower?
So that's... six possible castle-y places, not including the new teaser one?
That's all off the top of my head. Can anyone fact-check me?
--Chesh
PS: some extra notes I made off the top of my head while working on above
Lichen: dropped on Cradle via meteorite from space, and must have started reproducing like bunnies 'cause they're EVERYWHERE now
Devilites: their world has cities and buildings and interdimensional portals and great old ones.
Trojans: from Devilite world or from Almire?
Constructs: all built by Gremlins using scrap metal dismantled from Cradle's rings.
Tortodrones: Gremlin-built? Came from somewhere else?
Kats: came from Owlite/Kat world
Wolvers: descended from Vog, no idea if that was on Cradle or elsewhere.
Strangers: A mystery wrapped in an enigma topped with a funny hat. No idea why they weren't conquored by the Grems before we arrived.
Waitwaitwaitwait. Stop.
...if this IS a nature-repaired version of FSC...
...then who is the boss going to be?
--Chesh
The real question is who reduced vana and his kingdom to the way its now ?
if the time travel thing is true
well if this is a restored vanaduke castle i won't be suprised, seeing how much holy water we've been throwing around over the years. And not just to put out fire; we've been hitting poor sprites, undead skeletons and worse..........me
But seriously though, im very happy to hear about this (possible) new level and hopefully new boss. Props to OOO for releasing new content again (showing they're really working on making the game better (longer)). We getting closer to the core peeps!!!!
~More victims to grind my swords on >:3~
It looks like the sprites are trying to put out the fire, because of that I think this is sometime after vanaduke was defeated.
Maybe we were called to investigate "strange energy readings" coming from the recently conquered citadel, possibly from that weird machine in the treasure room, and that's when my theory comes in.
That device looks like some sort of lock and the artifact that Herex "stole" looks like the perfect key for it. Herex probably went to the recently cleared citadel to try using the artifact on the machine.
Since Herex apparently has a strong connection with the Swarm, (as shown in the mission changes from last year and the new ones) I imagine that those machines can corrupt an area with it, bringing back things lost in the past and making them stronger.
My conclusion is that Herex is going to spread the Swarm to the citadel and even other places, which probably means a rework on how we get to Shadow Lairs and how they appeared.
(I've been thinking about this for months since Herex stole the artifact)
If FSC is nature repaired, then why are the sprites cursed again? If they were cleaning up FSC, why is there more fire than previously (but more grass)? Why is there a sprite in the first/second image (wrong depth)? Why is the one sprite on the third image not cursed and so far away from the nature spot?
I'm still under the impression time travel is involved and we are playing through the fall of FSC, specifically when the sprites are deployed and trying to clean it up.
See time travel is technically possible in the clockworks. However, personally, I think we're just revisiting the place because of energy readings, likely tied to Herex.
Seems like some of the sprites were not cursed, others are. Who knows - maybe some were trapped but the ones we rescued have since helped them out a bit? Since the whole place was falling apart we don't know how much of the citadel fell down behind us, causing more fire.
STOP MESSING WITH MY HEART YOU'RE GOING TO GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK
I still wish there was more to the backstory of the KNIGHTS. What is the Morai War? Is our original planet called Morai?
Still, love new content. Its been a while, level-wise and story-wise.
I still wish there was more to the backstory of the KNIGHTS. What is the Morai War? Is our original planet called Morai?
Well our home planet is Isora. The Morai wars was a war against the race/order by the name of the "Morai". More likely race than order seeing as they brought us to the "point of extinction". Morai being a race of creatures makes sense from the iron/gold wolf/dragon set descriptions.
Too bad there was an energy crisis at the same time. I wonder if we left any other Knights on Isora...
To die...
If I recall, nearly all the Veteran Knights put theirselves up to defend the escape ship, the Skylark. After the Skylark's fall, notice how we are all Recruits? We are those same recruits the Veteran Knights put their lives into to protect and start anew, wherever it may be.
And it turns out to be Cradle.
Hmmm... Next Wednesday?
Welp... there goes an hour or two of my free time that afternoon.
So if there is going to be a new boss.... does that mean new tokens? New weapons? New Weapon paths?
There might be new pictures today since it was every 2 days for the vanguard missions.
Looks like we are getting a mix of the FSC and Legion of Almire, new announcement.
I wonder if it will be harder than shadow lair fsc.
Are those... Flame souls?
Well poop, this isn't gonna be easy.
It looks like those new crystal totems heal the monsters, seeing that it has the heart animation from a healing Silkwing and the similar wave pattern dispersed as a Silkwing upon death. Hopefully it doesn't push. And those rotating fire bar turrets look like the type to shoot bullets in multiple directions, not hold a steady bar in a 360 degrees fashion :L
Also, looking at the announcements on their Steam page, the new missions were released a day after the second mission announcement: "Investigating a Sudden Silence". Maybe it'll come tomorrow or Wednesday, but I wouldn't count on it... Maybe.
@Cross-Over
Healing wrenches are of devilite construction, making their first appearance in mysterious rooms during the tortodrone event.
Rotating fire traps were introduced during the 10-1 rank missions.
Please tell me this will be depth 27 and below.
It's been almost 2 years since the Vog-gamn radiant drought started.
I have 40+ 5* gears to heat.
Please please please don't let this be another shining crystal farm.
THINK OF THE VANGUARDS PLEASE!
I NEED MY RADS YOU CRAZY SUNSADEVS.
THESE NEW MISSIONS MEAN NOTHING TO ME IF WE DON'T GET OUR RADIANT FIRE CRYSTALS.

2 YEARS, OOO
2 LONG HARD YEARS!
YOU DRIVE ME TO CRAZY. I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE GAME LIKE A NORMAL PERSON AGAIN!
@Leafblader
Honestly i doubt it. It will probably be harder than the regular FSC, but not harder than UFSC. It will likely be equivalent to Legion of Almire in terms of difficulty, tons of slags and Almirian Royal/Shadow Guards all over the place, but then again a wave of braindead enemies isn't hard to deal with.
@Cross-Over

I thought the same thing when they introduced them in the 10-1 rank missions.
@Paintool
I wouldn't get my hopes up if i were you. Remember, FSC starts at depth 24 so it will probably be another shining fire crystal farm, we've got no pictures about boxes so far. But don't worry, they will likely give us 15-30 radiants as a mission reward, use them wisely. ;)
Also, am i the only one who noticed an Almirian Royal Guard walking through the top right corner wall in the third picture? Is that normal or is it a glitch?
@Skeptic
I only played the first and a little of the second of the Tortodrone event. Thanks for the heads up, wasn't aware of it.
Like. Mysterious rooms? Who has the time to explore arcade for that? Ha! Ha. Haha... (Ha?)
...Are they even in arcade? I forgot.
@Zeth
Maybe they'll reconfigure them to do exactly that in some future mission, or maybe this (these) upcoming mission(s)...
I mean, really, it's perfect! The model's already there, now just make it like a static gun puppy and add more bullets :v
They could even add it to make Danger Rooms even more dangerous- live up to their name!
Who has the time to explore arcade for that? Ha! Ha. Haha... (Ha?)
It's this mentality that keeps me rolling in money from non-HoH recipe sales :3
For me, I feel like a lot of the missions are boring anyway; usually you have to go through two other normal levels to reach the "real mission." Aside from boss missions, I can't really remember any ones that actually have special rooms limited to that mission.
Of course this is coming from a person who hasn't been doing missions for over half a year...
@Hexzyle Cryptian sells wildfire recipe for 100k when gunner update comes out... Mwhahahahahaaaaaa *cough* *cough*
Don't read it !!! SPOILERS !!!!

... the only one who noticed an Almiran Royal Guard walking through the top right corner...?
Looks like you were. Good eye. There Are Almiran two guards in that room; you can see the second circle/curve on the ground that shows the second guard's zombie-reviving radius.
The room with the two howlitzers and the healing totems - what do you guys think is a good strategy for that?
... Where'd all the other nature sprites go?

Venom Veiler's gonna have a good time.
I thought I gave up on this game....
