How come that the elevators we start on have a shaft leading down?
Should'nt that shaft be leading up??
Elevato question?
Eccept for the elevators we come down with..
You know.. when you ride an elevator down (be it in game or in real life) as you step out of the elevator, there is an elevator shaft going up..
Look here:

On image 1, it looks as it should, where an elevator goes down, there should be one up.. (not that we should be ABLE to go up there.. (but why not really?)
On image 2, ther is no elevator reaching the next floor (floor 1 in this example), instead there are two elevators going down, but only one can be used to go down.. As it should be..
If you go up while in a level (at the end) you can see why it is like that.
The lower part of the elevators goes up and connects to the elevator above it.
My guess is that the clockworks are in motion, so each elevator has a shaft that goes partially down to the next level. This shaft can extend when it needs to take travelers between levels. The shafts can only do this at designated times and make contact in designated areas. These restrictions prevent the shaft from breaking due to the spinning motion of the clockworks. This is why you never see an elevator shaft above an elevator, but you see a shaft come down whenever you return to haven. The developers could make us wait 5-10 minutes before showing that animation, but they compress time as a convenience to us.
I see what your getting at here.. but that dosnt explain why there is a shaft below the "landing spot" since the elevator is apparently descending from above, as noticed when returning to haven at an elevator..
It would acctually be nice to see us land with the elevator, and the shaft return back up when all have landed (loaded)
...What? I don't understand your question.
Haven is on the surface of the planet, so all the elevators should go down into the planet, towards the core.
