Parry Blades (Pery Blades?) - Shields with different abilities.

The Parry Blade would take up the shield slot, and it would act like a shield except:
1. It would have less defense and health
2. (Shield) Bashes do significantly more damage

The style of the blade's (Shield) Bashes would be different too, like a flourish stab or something.

Just a cool little idea.

completely useless

your idea is essentialy a modified torto shield without the shield capability, as far as I see fit. get a regular torto shield/ or get good, and stop giving us bad shield ideas.

algorithms are the solutions to any problem.

I don't think shield bashes need more damage, since the stun is enough to make them an utility tool rather than a damage tool. you have your weapons for damage. besides, how do you compare your idea of shield to the SSB? also, flourish stabs kinda suck on the aiming department.

A parry blade shield has been my solution to dual wielding for a while, where it has lower defenses (but is still specialized) and performs a counterattack when hit at full health. The counterattack will not pull you out of your shield but it might prove useful. These blades could also have combat bonuses on them, such as sword ASI: med or sword damage med.

I like the idea in general, but i feel it does not have to be a blade, but instead a new type of shield like these:

Or it can be an entirerly new shield (called targe) that allows the use of two handed weapons like this (so basically dueld wield with shield):

I feel that duel wield targe shield types would lose the ability to shield bash, but instead gain a new ability for that button. I also feel the players attacks could be faster, but with weaker damage per second and if using a two handed weapon like a long spear, it would be slower then using a one handed weapon like the troika. I also feel this new shield type would provide much less defense, but would allow more movement speed increase sense it would be much lighter in weight.

This link really made sense for this thread and i feel like i have to post it for everyone to read. Hope you agree with his point of view, cause i do!

"Shields Are Weapons
A lot of games either how shields were used, or never knew in the first place, but they were frequently as offensive as they were defensive. Assume that bucklers, round shields and heater shields can be used to bash and cut as weapons, using the Strike skill the same as any other weapon. Kite shields have been intentionally left out, however. The trade off for that much protective coverage is a shield too unwieldy to make a useful weapon.

If you worry that this makes shields "too good" by comparison, consider house-ruling that offensive shield attacks are made at one die lower (d6 attack from a buckler, for instance). Alternatively, you could declare that shields can only be used for maneuvers rather than attacks. This is also valid, though a saxon shield could crack a rib pretty easily if one knew what they were doing."

Anyway, these dueld wielding shields would only be compatible with duel wielding weapons, and also where duel wielding weapons will not be compatible with normal shields. This means that there will be two catergories weapons and shields. Duel wielding and not wuel wielding. Well again, i am just coming with these things as i go. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. Anything that has to do with balance will be handled by teh devs sense i really do no want to discuss hypothetical scenarios that we can't ennact or sample to make sure if either of us are correct.

Umm...

Yeaah, when I want to read a novel I'll find my way into that thread. When 13/16ths of the page is text with very little formatting it turns me off from reading it.

Potentially having a bolded TL;DR would at least give me an idea of what it is, because all that text scares me.

I think that Parry shield

I think that Parry shield will do more Bash damage at the expense of damage resistance. More damage with bashing, but make this shield at least WITHSTAND a little bit of enemies damage!

Hmm...

You are right matik, though i would like it if the shields bash attack take only 10 to 15% of the shields total health and for the shield tobe able to bash a total of three times consecutively. This means that the shields will focus more on movement then defense alowing the player to bash awy or through incoming enemy attacks and preventing the knight for sustaining too much damage by focusing on agility.

This way, small shields like the targe will allow players who duel wield or use two handed weapons to have more versatility on the field sense they can move around much more often then the average knight. Of course if such a player was cornered, that would be the end of that player if they cannot get out of that sticky situation.
