What is the purpose of the existence of multiple Barriers?

If you don't know, I'm specifically talking about the pickup: Barrier.

These barriers all share damage despite what depth and tier they are. An example is the 1-star variant (Tier 1) will do the exact same amount of damage as the 4-star variant (Tier 3) with absolutely no changes. (Have no idea if the status thing I put there is even physically correct, I can't remember)

So I have to ask: Why? What reason is there to have the barriers split into tiers when things like the Auto-Turret Kit doesn't? It's obvious that they can drop at any given depth so why create multiple ones?

For the not-yet-released barrier bandolier, obviously.

algorithms are the solutions to any problem.

I think it's because they deal a different tier of status, corresponding to tier.

Yeah, they do different tier levels of status damage. So if you use a fire or freeze barrier in a lower tier than they are meant to be, the status damage will still be capped at their tier just like it is for weapons. (Not sure about shock, but know it's true for those two)

The purpose is to dilute the drop table so you get fewer health and remedy capsules.

As if vials that are useless for that particular floor didn't do that already.

Well having 4 statuses dilutes it but having different tiers does not dilute it-- except on a few rare occasions, only one tier of barrier drops on any given floor. They could also just have more of the same barrier drop if they wanted to dilute it, like they do.

I'm still waiting to find a use for barriers except for smashing the reinforced 3-hit blocks when I need to take a bathroom break.

Barriers are useful for dealing a status you aren't carrying any other way. Particularly poison and fire, since shock barriers have a tendency to trap you in between now-knockback-immune enemies.

Mortafires are really weak to barriers, along with other monsters with shields.
