Thanks for making the rarest/exclusive items of monthly Lockboxes common via a Prize Box.

Good way to do it IMO

Rarest items in monthly lockboxes are now put together into one big prize box that costs x2 a key. Even then there's a huge pool of items to potentially gather. This'll just make more desirable accessories accessible to more players.

When it comes to the rarity of accessories, I'm always on the ball for making them more common. Then again I'm one of those people who actually plays the game for fun.

It's a rather unfortunate mentality, that something has to be rare for it to be desirable. It's still the same artwork, the same image that you're paying into- it just costs less, and I'm all for things costing less.

Well yeah.

Not meaning more expensive = desirable... But, well, the sensor units, extension cords, and monocles have all been pretty desirable among quite a few people I talk to. They're just either rare, in the wrong color, or stupid expensive.

Lowering the (player-driven) price of a dream costume is always a good business practice for Three Rings. Plus getting more rare items out there means more unique and truly amazing costumes can be created!

Picture Lies!

I was looking forward to getting the clipboard accessory... then I realized that was just a picture for the release documents :(

Meh.

Expensive = desirable applies to everything. Even in the international market. It's labelled brand prestige.

In the SK context, i'll agree with Spiral-Market, not just cause we are in the same guild or cause we are friends. But because cause this prize box just deems the monthly prize boxes redundant. What was the whole point of coming up with the monthly prize boxes then? I would understand if the best prizes from the monthly lockboxes came up in this "extraordinary promo box" as a 1-3% item. But everything is 20%. If OOO wanted to release this prize box, they should never have created the monthly lockboxes.

Coming from someone who has never really cared about the contents of promo boxes cause everything hits the bazaar sooner or later (except maybe when they re-released blossom, I was sad for personal reasons), this prize box receives a negative vote from me (not that it matters).

P.S. Legobuild, that's what I told Ychi as well :P

If I might bring some statistics to the table regarding the monthly prize boxes-

In the current prize box, you pay 5 dollars and receive:
Dapper Combo = 5%
Headlamp = 10%
Monocle = 10%
Sensor Unit = 10%
Targeting Module = 11.66%

Assuming that Spiral Spy file digs and isn't just making up numbers, you have been offered for the price of 5$ = 2 silver keys:
Dapper Combo = Unknown (Iron lockbox)
Headlamp = 19% (Titanium lockbox)
Monocle = 19% (Gold lockbox)
Sensor Unit = 19% (Platinum lockbox)
Targeting Module = 28% (silver lockbox)
Note that Spy's website does include the text "Pried from the game with great effort".

With the possible exception of the Dapper Combo, you're more likely to find what you want (if it is one of those) in their respective lockboxes. It is also prevalent to note that many of the accessories found in lockboxes include things like ankle boosters, gigas shades, devilite horns.. none of which are present in the extraordinary box. Another aspect is that you receive two prizes for the price of one with lockboxes, allowing for a greater quantity of goods to come from the boxes.

But this kind of ignores the "why" when it comes to opening these boxes. Why do you open it? Why would anyone open it? What do you want to happen? And the answer to that this time, is the 30% category that consists of the new toppers, crest accessories, exhaust pipes, gear halos, extension cords and wrenches. Everything else is just to sweeten the deal.

I'm not arguing for or against the prize boxes, I'm arguing against the viewpoint that the prize box in some way negates the lockboxes because of these items.

I'm curious, how many of

I'm curious, how many of these supposed accessory aficionados re-buy the same item over and over again? I presume that's who they are trying to sell these thing to now days, because there is so many different items now it's surprising that anyone else still can still find slots for them in their inventories.

The phrase "it's like [company] hates money" gets used a lot, but after 3 and a half years, the list of accessories is mindbogglingly extensive yet the cosmetic system still uses the creaky archaic day one mechanic of binding to gear, not the player. There's plenty of opportunity to foster the 'collect them all' mentality with cosmetics, but they hold it back with 'why get themed item X when you don't have rare themed costume armor Y, because themed costume hat Z is even rarer'. I don't know about you, but the primary reason I rarely buy anything from the huge backlog of cosmetics on the AH is because the cosmetic system is encumbered with a broken methodology that is incompatible with my wants - items are released out of order, theres no future proofing for styles unless you hoard, and ultimately every item competes with every other item in its slot. The system thinks it's better than it is.

It's like that guy trying to sell the only Gold Dragon armor in existence; who is he trying to sell it to? Theres only one matching hat to with it so who else needs it?
If the game wants me to buy monocles and sensor units from other players (which I think is a bit ugly, but thats just me) then it's gonna have to meet me half way.

XD
And why are they trying to sell it to the very merchanters they were competing with to outbid it in the first place?

Yeah...

It really seems like the merchants who complain about rare things being brought back (and at reasonable prices, mind you) are only really mad because they had a monopoly of a certain item... But at the same time it's more that they had the item rather than they were actually able to or were planning on selling it.

I remember a guildmate being sorta mad when all the gen 1 wings went on sale on a flash sale a while back. They had a monopoly of fancy wings (or just was collecting the few that were around), and when I asked them why they were mad their response was only really "I wanted all of them for the sake of having them". Wasn't planning on selling them or using them... I just found that rather odd.
When you're trying to hold onto rare accessories or costumes it's the risk you get yourself into for not selling them when you wait. I had one of if not the only volcanic gear halo for a while, but not being a merchant, I didn't really want to sell it. Now the gear halos are back, and I think that it's a good move to get more of those into the hands of players.

Heck, if the great cleavers make a comeback I won't be mad either, and I have both cleavers in my inventory unbound collecting dust.

Y'all need to realize virtual potential wealth can change every other Wednesday whenever Three Rings decides to put another box on the market.

Should've sold your item

Should've sold your item instead of hoarded it. Greed has its drawbacks

Thank you, OOO, for allowing more people to get some really great looking items

I'm genuinely happy that you chose making a lot of people happy over listening to whiny wannabe tycoons crying about losing their monopoly over items in a f2p mmo
