I think personally that the ability to trade low level crafting orbs and those heat stones into higher level ones you be a grand idea. For example, I have... lest say five of the lowest level of the crafting orbs. I can trade those in for the next level of the crafting orbs.
Heat stones and Crafting orbs
I guess that could work as well. I just hate that I have to save up just to buy energy to buy those stupid orbs!
The point of saving up to buy energy for orbs is that it's the exact same process we went through in the past, except now you can play the game for as long as you want every day.
Buying orbs is the presumed "default way" you're supposed to play the game. The secondary way is to find them. This alternative would let you use the orbs that are lower star that you aren't using, but if you want the orbs quickly you should just buy them.
You also need to make sure that buying two sets of elite orbs (400 energy) and converting them to 5* orbs isn't better than simply buying the 5* orbs (which are 800 energy). 3->1 would work better there.
Not everyone wants to spend their real life money just to buy energy, Fangel.
And how long does it take to get up to 500 Energy for three Epic orbs?
It takes 1-2 weeks if you are average, 5 days if you are resourceful.
P.s. I like how somebody's wearing the fallen set, whimsy.
For one, it doesn't really make sense and orbs are supposed to be a sort of wall to overcome.
However, with enough cost to it, this suggestion would work balance-wise.
Personally, I would say 3 lower star orbs = 1 higher star orb OR 5 lower star orbs = 3 higher star orbs. For the 3->1, I'd say make a crafting cost of 100 crowns that increases drastically for each star level (up to 7.5k crowns for the 4* to 5* difference), and for the 5->3 a larger number, perhaps starting at 250 crowns and increasing to up to 10k crowns. Perhaps increase costs there too so that crafting up is more expensive than buying bulk (so that buying a pack or two of elite orbs and crafting them to 5* is more expensive than say, crafting 5*).
Simply a trade up will not do. Having a craft up will do, but with the right amount of sinks.
