My friend (RWGryphon) and I were chatting about a few things with Spiral Knights, we were bored, then a thought came to mind - "What if Spiral Knights were to be open world?". That'd be cool, would it not? (BTW, this isn't a suggestion because I know that it probably won't happen, but if you feel the need to, move it over!)

Here's a list of the cons:
• It'd probably have some serious lag.
• Three Rings would have to re-do pretty much the whole game.

And the pros:
• It'd be more like Three Rings imagined it - meaning more like an "adventure".
• It would would be absolute eyecandy to see the other pieces of the world down below in an array of builds.

Thoughts on if SK were to be open world?

A) this is a suggestion B)

A) this is a suggestion

B) please no. The last F2P MMO that tried to transition from instanced to open world like this (Global Agenda) pretty much died in the process since so much time was taken up designing the overworld that didn't really bring significant attention to the game. SK already has content delivery problems.

Meh.

Spiral Knights could use an open world surface mission set of sorts, however the real heart of the game is down in the ever-shifting gears of the clockworks. The game is specially designed so that it doesn't have to be open world, and the randomized levels make sense in the lore.

Spiral Knights is great as is, however an open-world Spiral Knights has been suggested around the same line as first person Spiral Knights, and the bottom line is that you can't just change a game's complete design after it's been released and do it flawlessly. Open world SK would be neat, as would first person SK, however those are completely different games and not the 2.5D dungeon crawler we know and love.

I would love..

I would love if sk was open world. I was playing an open world game before i came to sk. And the mian reason i came to sk, was because that open world game died! So yes, i am always totally up for open world game designs. More then anything, what i desire right now is more ways the game can be played. Variety! And i feel the game right now is super super short on that aspect. An open world form of gameplay i feel would increase the possibilities by a million to infinity. Right now, it is just too stale and boring to play over 5 or even thiking about playing over 10 hours a day. So yes, i am totally up for open world!

I believe OOO's intention is for players not to play over 5 hours a day, hence starting out with mist energy limits and elevator gate fees.

I use..

I use to play 10 hours or more a day when mist energy was still on. I use elevator passes every month. So i believe what you believe to be OOO intentions are totally wrong.
