What's the tankiest loadout?

In your opinion what is the best loadout for survivability? I don't just mean most health, but combinations of weapons and armour that prolong your time outside the locker-room. It could be that you think full ancient set is the best tank loadout but is it really?

BKC + Ancient Plate makes for a nice balance between offence and defence, but I've been comparing Vitasuit to Ancient and the I'm not sure the extra +1 health and normal defence makes up for the -1 move and attack speed when it comes to overall survivability. There's really only 4 weapons in LD that put that normal def to use (gf, da, brandish, vali).

Do bombs keep you alive longer or do they just make you an easy target?

Which class is best for staying alive? Each of them have their positives and negatives but is one actually the best?

Thanks. Also, if you have any stories or videos of you tanking and evading like a baws please do share.

well

I think your best bet for survival would be fully heated ancient plate, with two penta trinket. But the best would probably be bkc, and ancient plate for exceptional defensive and offensive advantage.

I don't believe the best defense is a strong offense when it comes to survivability in Lockdown.

-Recon Shield Class
-Mercurial Helm + Shock Max, Freeze Max, Stun Max
-Mercurial Mail + Freeze Max, Fire Max, Stun Max
-Double Pentahearts
-Warmaster Rocket Hammer + ASI VH
-Polaris + ASI VH
-Shivermist + CTR VH
-Staggerstorm + CTR VH

Strategy:
1. Spam bombs whenever capturing a point not vulnerable to bottom-screen ambush. If someone gets stuck, continue spamming bombs, even after you capture the point. (The idea is to attract the attention of his teammates allowing you to distract more people at the cost of not capturing)
2. When capturing points vulnerable to ambush: If point is not yet neutral, plant one bomb, go cloak until it fades, and repeat. When point becomes neutral, go under cloak until the point is captured. Do not uncloak until you have left vicinity of point.
3. If an aggressor threatens you during bomb spamming (either a walker or someone with a gun), go cloak. If capturing a point, stall as long as possible without going out of cloak. If they are preventing capture, use hammer or polaris as necessary to stall or persuade them off the point.
4. If multiple aggressors are present, stall as long as possible but retreat when health or shield goes to half. Use polaris to clear a path, and be smart while walking under cloak. If shield breaks, hammer dash your way to safety, swiping towards the enemy and dashing away.

5. When walking between points: If bottom-screen ambush is possible, always cloak. Otherwise spam Polaris periodically and walk into the bullets ahead of you.
6. If health is under half, always go heal. If health is not full and you happen to pass by heartpad, heal to full.
7. Do not pick fights*. Do not pursue enemies you perceive as weak. Always be on guard for fake retreats.

*Exception is if you have a reliable ally that you can help. Then Polaris is a great support.

Don't you only need lvl 10 bombs for that? Since the recon shield alrdy gives vh ctr for bombs.

@Neometal
Yeah but then you don't look as pay to win.

@OP
I find Guardian to no doubt have the best survivability. Although you have lacking cross-map mobility and are required to fight most battles you engage in, you have the ability to heal up after a fight. Strikers and recons don't, but they have a far better ability to retreat to spawn to heal up than guardians do.

Venom Veiler is a great bomb when it comes to survival, although mostly for combat guardians. If you go full bomber, it will probably not help as much but hey, if you're looking to survive you should be killing your enemies anyway. Stalling won't do. As for the rest of the weapons, both a good sword and gun are requirements so that you can take on both swordsmen and gunners. My preference is FF, Arcanye West, and GF. WRH works quite well, too, but is more relevant when you need more mobility than plain reliable hits.

As for gear, I'm gonna go ahead and say that the best defence is actually a good offence here. As a guardian, MSI is worth amazingly much and with no inherent damage bonuses, BK set is perfect. As long as you got the UVs for attack speed you'll have stats almost as good as strikers have with this set. One piece ancient could probably work, but then you absolutely need good UVs on your guns because they'll be set back with ASD Med. Perhaps vitasuit would be better but given how much people like combospamming guardians with Sealed Swords as well as how easy it is to hit them with Brandishes, I think the normal defence might be very well worth it. It's a matter of weighing extra defence vs more movement speed, I suppose. Which one is better boils down to who's giving you the most trouble.

Hmmm

Tanky is a bit of a weird question

I would have to say Divine Veil and Ice Queen with Max UVs in Defences
this would resist all types of damage and a lot of status

Had your Question been about Survivability it would have to be BK with VH ASI/CTR on your weapons. Survivability is about being dead last, if you can kill more than you die then you're doing good, you're also getting HP back from every kill and if you don't take damage you will restore HP.

For Example in TF2 the Tankiest class is the Heavy since he can have 300 HP (350 with Dalokohs Bar buff), but that doesn't mean he has the best survival. He's slow and in vunerable to being overrun by nearly every class.

The Soldier on the other hand is a Class with much better Survivability. He has only 200 HP and is still one of the slowest walking classes but with his Rocket Launcher he can jump out of trouble very quickly to go find HP packs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTW7hcuJrQY

or something that provides defense.

@Holy-Nightmare Assuming you

@Holy-Nightmare
Assuming you mean divine veil + ice queen mail. If that's what you ment then you know nothing about how defense works in lockdown....

@Dutch
Tankiest = Full ancient(obvious reasons....)
Tanky + survivability = black kat piece with ancient piece.(Lots of normal defense in addition to having damage bonus and extra health, no real disadvantage)
Pure survivability = Black Kat Set(msi med, damage max for everything, good defense with uvs... most broken set in the game imo..)

@ Tempas

I've seen Zeddy's thread
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/90606

Regardless of what set you choose you will still have a hole in your defense, a set with defense in all places won't be able to tank as well as a set that defends in only normal and something else against what it resists. Obviously the snarby set would be better for tanking Shadow damage than Divine/Icequeen, but the mixed set would be better at taking elemental and pierce. Obviously there are sets that outclass it in those areas too but they have holes in their defenses as well.

Lockdown has base defense of

Lockdown has base defense of 100. If your individual resist isn't above 100 you get brought up to 100. Divine veil + ice queen mail don't have 100 in any stat hence they all get brought up to 100. It's the same as if I went and used proto armour except that I wouldn't have the extra health pips. It is documented somewhere in the thread but not in the main post.

I just like running around like a crazy man pretending to dodge. Strikers want my life damage like a fat american cravin hot cakes. Jukes ftw. I'll have a video up again some day.
