*Speculation* The truth about the cosmetic box promos.

As you all know, the times between major updates have been almost nothing but cosmetic promos. Heck, almost the entire year of 2014 was nothing but that (except the first set of Vanguard missions. Hence "almost").

But I think there's a deeper meaning to all this.

Before I continue, I would like to admit that I don't know if it's safe to talk about the intentions of the small band we know as our developers and GMs. I'll say right now that what's ahead DOES NOT involve spoilers of any kind, however, this is merely speculation and theorizing. no file-diving is involved. This hypothesis is based solely upon anecdotal correlations in missions and the game's main lore. If they do find offense, I will edit this out completely and send it straight to the Graveyard without a second though.

SK is very story-driven. We escaped from the Morai, in hopes of finding an energy source to rejuvenate our home planet, ended up crashing on Cradle, sought to open the core for its energy to repair the Skylark, only to find out there's an entirely new world inside it along with the Swarm ready to eat it up from the inside-out.

SK has been around for 4 years, starting in 2011. The only story we had was crash, hope to open core, that's it. And we've been given a lot more depth since then.

And that's just it. With Dreams and Nightmares implying for a final showdown with that swarm-core-eyeball-vortex-thing, it's obvious there's going to be a "final update" at some point during SK's lifetime, this could include the "final boss" (whatever that may be).

As a result, these box promos are simply to give us something to look forward to as more story is being brought out. To simply fill in the void in the holes that are the time periods between major lore updates, to make the ending of the game as climactic as possible for old veterans and newcomers alike. Most see this as more harm that good, but you have to ask yourself; "...Is it better than nothing?".

My speculation is that OOO needs money. But that's only speculation. Nobody will believe me anyway.

:/

There is no point of speculating all of this, if OOO hasn't stopped making promos, then it means that they are earning more than they invested, and therefore they won't stop, and when the promos are not worth making (now that is what I would call bottom of the barrel), OOO would stop.

I would speculate that Midnight DJ is correct in that the promotions are doing Three Rings well.

Money.

Likely the promotions are ways to make money between gameplay events and new content.

I mean, the art team can only do so much while the dev team makes sure generation is working correctly and things aren't bugging up... Plus making promotional items and making them all money at the same time seems like a good way to use their time.

I would speculate that Tweeter left and came back, or simply did not post for a while.
