Yes autotarget makes the game easier.

Hard to say anything truthful about ATers without getting banned here, too many children around
But to make it short, ATers deserve to be ttrolled to the point of ragequitting.
Also, LD will never be AT free.

It has little to no effect for some weapons
These include (but are not limited to):
Pulsars
Catalyzers
Autoguns
Tortofists
Bombs
These weapons rely more on prediction, AOE, and a bit of luck

I think that when Three Rings implemented Auto Target (AT) into the game, it was probably for ease of access. Problem is people tend to abuse it.
Random story about rhythm games (A.K.A you won't care)
I like rhythm games because there are no options or game mechanics you can abuse. It's all pure skill (and I guess memorization of the chart). Although, games like Reflec beat have notes that approach the timing window at random positions. Setting the A.I to level 10 (makes more "justs" and "Greats") is a challenge (even if you use "just reflec" which nets you an extra 3 points). You can even lose points by getting "misses".
