Actually, I'm a picnic error. But here's the original post, anyway:

A retired knight? Yes. That's what I am at this point. I won't be playing Spiral Knights for quite a while, unless valor (and shinies) bid me take up my sword again. Until then, I'll be perfectly happy, sitting here. Saying things. For a while...

I will warn you though, I've found that I have a nasty habit of making assumptions about Spiral Knights without adequate information. (For example, I believed armor was useful. Credit goes to Fehzor for correcting me.) Because of that, expect hilariously false responses!

So ask away! I'm doing this rather than posting a run-of-the-mill goodbye thread, because no one seriously reads those, and this could be more fun!

Can I have your stuff? As your alt, I have the right to your stuff. I need it for further science stuff.

Also, when will you let me say something to those guys on the thread about the RPG thing in the Treasure Vault? They still don't know where I've been...

Oh well, I am not planning on posting a farewell thread any way, I will vanish like the ghost like I always am.

So, Autofire, or Eternity-Term? Do you ever play Warhammer 40K, if yes, do you like the emprah?

No.

I never gave you permission to mention the alt thing in public. You know what punishment bad robots like you get... *Pulls out cookie jar*

As for the Treasure Vault thing, go ahead. I honestly don't know why you didn't bring it up sooner.

So, Autofire, or Eternity-Term? Do you ever play Warhammer 40K, if yes, do you like the emprah?
Sadly, no. I have been working on my own tabletop RPG, though. My initial design was a flop, so now I'm loosely basing it off of the d20 system.

From perusing the Hall of Heroes, of which of the 9 classes of Spiral Knights do you enjoy playing the most? (Striker, Gunslinger, Bomber, Specialist, Cobalt Knight, Guardian, Elemental Defender, Shadow Defender and Piercing Defender).

Do PICNIC errors cause people to talk to themselves? Or is it a problem in computer, not in chair?

What was your least favorite weapon? (for any reason)

Hey, this is going against my advice! He talks to me on a daily basis. I suggested he do it. Isn't that right, Autofire?

Oh, and this isn't a new thing! Autofire has proven himself to be a most talkative person, conversing with his other self on a daily basis. I should know, because I'm him. (But don't tell him I said that. He only believes I'm his robot, but I know better than that.)

Eternity-Terminal swipes Autofire's cookie jar and runs off, never to return. Never within the next five days, anyway.

Maybe specialist? I would frequently wear that gives damage bonuses to a specific monster family. This was because I always would use two weapon types, so a specific booster would only work half of the time.

Do PICNIC errors cause people to talk to themselves? Or is it a problem in computer, not in chair?
I assume PICNIC errors are the cause. It's a fun little thing I do sometimes. That second Autofire was created when I converted my standalone account to Steam. Unfortunately, the other Autofire is dead now. :<

What is something that you enjoyed in-game? in fooooorims?
Arcade and (before split) Gremlin Chatter, respectively. Due to a recent change, though, I suppose it would be Arcade and Arcade, respectively.

What was your least favorite weapon? (for any reason)
Least favorite weapon? Well...that's a toughie. I used to dislike Brandishes but now I'm not so sure. I do still not like them, but idk.

But I might have to say...Gran Faust. It goes totally against my button masher playstyle, and it also screwed me up that one time, long ago...when Phantoms were deadly and you couldn't change your gear unless you were at an arsenal station. I had to go through a graveyard in T3, I believe, using my regular Faust. And then I upgraded to Gran Faust, but then they nerfed it so that Faust is better, but I couldn't go back. So I was sad.

How much dust could a dust bunny dust if a dust bunny could dust dust?
A dust bunny could dust about 8 dusts when the dust bunny dusts dust. However, much to the dust bunny's surprise, the dust re-dusts itself after dusting, so the 8 + 10 dusts always returns. The life of a duster dust bunny is hard.

Can I replace Eternity-Terminal in Shard Squad?
Go ahead.

C'mon Autofire, I'm totally psychotic when it comes to having long discussions with my alts when I'm bored and lonely, but even I don't talk to my alts on the forums.
Frankly, that link was dare from Nerfguy to have an argument with myself.

To tell the truth, I am still conflicted about cheesecake and mint cake...

Why are you leaving?
Because I've found better things to do than play the game which I have over a month of playtime on, not to mention much of the undocumented playtime before the game's release. I have a part time job and I'll be going to college soon, and I also have a certain project I'm working on.

I also find myself acting strangely irrational around topics related to Spiral Knights. I think I'm just too biased to add much to arguments about the game.

what's the formula for the damage once it goes under 61?
I'm not sure, but I bet that the formula just works like normal. Why would it change? Also, could pots deal this little damage?

what do you play now?
Well, I just got on the DST beta, and I've also been playing Hearthstone, Ori and the Blind Forest, and SSB4. I've also rediscovered Card Hunter, and I hope to try Skyrim soon.

I have a question for you, you seem smart, I still cannot find the answer to my question, I've done tons of research, no answer....

Why are oranges called an orange, when a banana isn't called a yellow? I mean, I realize things like grapes come in different colors, like green and purple. So why not just call it a gurple or something? Makes sense doesn't it? Please answer, I need to know the answer to this....

A wierd Question

I have seen this before, and i want to know something.

First of all, if i put root beer in a square cup, do i have beer in a cup? If so, what shape of cups is it?

Second, did you know they put Dihydrogen Monoxide on plants? Is putting chemical on plants bad then, when Dihydrogen Monoxide is technically a chemical?

Third, what is your stand to one argument i would like to say which is "is there a really a best sword/bomb/gun/ETC,,, in spiral knights, or is gear situational?"

Fourth, if you were to tell a new player one thing about spiral knights, what would it be, and what would you NEVER tell a new player in spiral knights.

Fifth, did you know talking to your alternative self in public is a sign of insanity?

But putting chemicals on plants isn't bad. Without any sort of chemical input, photosynthesis (a chemical reaction) would not occur. Plants need chemicals to live.

Oh dear...lots of trivia questions!

[Vacations] can be [permanent] if you get food poisoning and die :P
As a DVS user, that scares me. Now I really need to be careful of where I store my snacks.

Ask a picnic error anything!
I might go with that...

Why are oranges called an orange, when a banana isn't called a yellow? I mean, I realize things like grapes come in different colors, like green and purple. So why not just call it a gurple or something? Makes sense doesn't it? Please answer, I need to know the answer to this....
Well, banana? Looking up Wiktionary, the word 'banana' comes from a different language. ("From Wolof banaana, via Spanish or Portuguese.") On that same page, it shows multiple different bananas, including red ones. Maybe the name should be 'grellow,' but I'm not the one who comes up with language stuff.

But then looking up orange, I find that originally oranges were called 'orange apples'! Over time, this must have just been compressed to the simple 'orange' that we call them today.

First of all, if i put root beer in a square cup, do i have beer in a cup? If so, what shape of cups is it?
Well, you would have beer in a line-shaped cup. Because it would no longer be square, you know. It would become linear.

Second, did you know they put Dihydrogen Monoxide on plants? Is putting chemical on plants bad then, when Dihydrogen Monoxide is technically a chemical?
While I didn't nkow about putting Dihydrogen Monoxide on plants, as Hexzyle said, chemicals aren't necessarily bad. Also, Dihydrogen Monoxide is water. So, if you don't like that, have fun dieing.

Third, what is your stand to one argument i would like to say which is "is there a really a best sword/bomb/gun/ETC,,, in spiral knights, or is gear situational?"
In casual PvE, the best weapon is your favorite. For me, Brandishes are garbage because I never used them. However, others are free to use them, and I understand; some want the game easier, so they can do that. With this ideology, the best weapons in my perspective are Dread Venom Striker and Callahan, due to their synergy. However, in competitive PvE or PvP, the best weapon is the one which outputs the highest DPS or provides incredibly useful utility. (So, Gran Faust, Flourish, etc.)

Fourth, if you were to tell a new player one thing about spiral knights, what would it be, and what would you NEVER tell a new player in spiral knights.
Excellent question. Let me think...

Okay, well, one thing I would say is that to not forget about the Arcade. Right now, I think Three Rings really needs to pick up the slack on that, but the Arcade is an excellent facet of the game. I would not have played for nearly so long if they launched with only missions and threw Arcade in as an afterthought.

What would I never say? "Avoid the , it's pathetic." The only two exceptions are Heat Boosters and those Katnip pouches. (Those are useless.) That being said, I would (later) say that some weapons are indeed better than other weapons. For example, Shards are flawed yet fun. I wouldn't recommend them for anyone considering grinding this game for goodies.

Fifth, did you know talking to your alternative self in public is a sign of insanity?
I would consider it worse if I talked to myself in private. I could very well be putting on an act, you know. If I spoke to myself when I was alone, then I could very well believe that I have a second self.

Because you have unstable latency, terrible gear, and/or you need to get better at the game.

Tell me about Vanaduke. Why does he wear the mask?
Ah, good question! There are a lot of theories, but this is mine. Understand that this is based on the wiki, and that page's lore is official because it was added by developer!

So, to begin. Autofire grabs a pipe. You may not want to have to listen through all of this, and I don't blame you.

There was once three kingdoms, all at odds. War was their daily pastime, passed down from generation to generation. Almire was the smallest of the three, though under Lord Vanaduke it grew to frightening power. The Duke's dream of smashing the other two kingdoms was near fruition. Had a few months passed, maybe his dream would have come true.

Now, Vanaduke had a single daughter, and his wife battled a life-threatening illness and would never bear another child. Because of this, Vanaduke was always diligent in looking for the proper gentleman to be his son-in-law. Someone who was hardened in the ways of war, and would fulfill Vanaduke's dream in case Vanaduke died too soon. Someone whom could be trusted with the empire Vanaduke dreamed of creating.

But there was a snag, as always.

Upon Lord Vanaduke's request, a band of magicians that made their way into the lush kingdom. Of course, the magicians meant Owlites. Though Owlites were renowned for keeping peace, this group of Owlites from the distant Owlite Academy agreed to aid Almire in order to seal their security with the Almirian kingdom.

One of these Owlites, a young Owlite by the name of Adoco, was very different from the rest of his kin. He was ambitious, and didn't want to stay a student for the rest of his days. No, he wanted to be a king.

During one (of the many) parties which were held in the Almirian keep, Adoco met Vanaduke's daughter. They fell in love on first sight. After the party, Vanaduke's daughter unwittingly told her father. This did not go well with him, because he did not fancy the idea of one of these 'soft' Owlites inheriting his kingdom. Not at all!

I am sorry, but I cannot finish this account quite yet. I'll be back...

Originally, I would have told you that he probably likes the spotlight and the money that comes with it, he likes to sing, or something like that. But now I'm not really very sure why he sings...largely due to his claim to being a Christian yet his actions do not reflect that.

So he's either a liar or...something else?

Strange.

Is the game dead?

I used to play Spiral Knights long, long ago. I mean, like 2011. I have beautiful memories of playing with the power ups of weapons and and I love those jelly runs where you play co-op in a dungeon and all of that fun stuff. I've just logged in now, about 4 years later (although it feels so much less) and have noticed that BARELY ANYTHING has changed around haven. It feels like the game has sort of,died and I'm not sure but it's pretty disappointing if it has.
Has the game died?
If so, can you recommend any similar games to spiral Knights, where you play co-op with others in dungeons and fight animated monsters like in spiral Knights with fun weapons?

Define "dead".

Sick of people throwing this vague word around without even giving it an accompanied explanation.
In a game review, you don't say "this game has some nice features" and then not describe any of them.

Spiral Knights was never an organic creature, so I don't understand how it can "die".

Very well then. Proceed. I really don't care, as long as burning doesn't interrupt keep me from my duties.

About game dieing.
Well, the game can't really die, as Hexzyle says. However, just like a building, the game can indeed be closed or made empty. Many have used the term 'stagnation' to describe Spiral Knight's condition. This is fairly appropriate, since the game isn't empty; it just isn't growing. (It's shrinking slowly, if I'm correct.)

But I would say that, yes, the game has slowed down a lot. I still remember the bustling Havens and Clockworks for the couple months after release day, and then also the excitement for Snarbolax. Those days were great. Truth be told, I don't think I would have played for nearly as long if missions existed from the get-go. They just don't seem to have a place, at least in the way they're implemented. I think the biggest mistake for this game was the attempt to take attention away from the Arcade, because the Arcade is Spiral Knight's most major selling point.

I don't know of another game that's quite like Spiral Knights, although Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate looks promising. Of course, nothing will replace all those memories of mine. I assume Brutalknight feels the same way.

I do believe that things were going well up until SEGA claimed Spiral Knights. And before Nick left. Times are changing.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Challahan for sure.

Thoughts on E3?
Truth be told, I haven't watched all of E3 yet. Autofire gets shot. My brother has watched it, though. He shared some of the highlights. Also, we only have a Wii U and a 2DS, mostly because Nintendo games tend to be more kid-friendly (This house is full of kids), so my interest is mainly in the Nintendo section.

That being said, the Microsoft might be worth watching, assuming they won't just have Xbox stuff. Maybe Moon Studios' next game has been announced!

If you're a picnic error, what went wrong?
The chair, the user (me), or the computer.

PICNIC --> Problem Is Chair, Not In Computer
PICNIC --> Problem In Chair, Not In Computer
PICNIC --> Problem In Computer, Not In Chair

It's probably both the second and third one, though. I'm not perfect. As this computer's maintainer, the computer can only take after me! xD

Specifically right now, though, my computer isn't running as well as it should. I tried a distribution upgrade and fried things. Now I have to start anew.

Should I watch people speedrun Metroid games or draw? If I draw, what: crazy-armored dragons, robots, or something else?
I would answer but I haven't watched people speedrun Metroid games yet, so I don't know how good of a show that makes.

If you draw, draw a Rocket Snipe. Thou must!

What was that noise?
Your imagination is playing tricks on-- Autofire gets flattened by a mustached box.

What's your preferred temperature, when idle and active respectively?
I find this 78 degrees Fahrenheit pretty comfortable. Colder is better if I'm doing something physically strenuous.

If you could make a game of your design, with all the actual labor done for you, what would it be like?
I would tell you but it could potentially allow someone to steal my idea. I guess you could call it a 'shooter', but not quite...

Do you think loneliness and a need for validation are connected?
Possibly. Never thought of it that way, but that makes sense when thinking about my experiences being lonely. (I've had a few.)

It's a robot that I made out of LEGO bricks, long long ago. I really liked it, because it was kinda like Hasbro's Transformers and could change into a car without having to take it apart. And it could 'shoot missiles.' So, being a car and a missile shooter, I named it Autofire.

Then I eventually got an account on the LEGO website with Autofire as the name. While I haven't touched that account for a long time, the name stuck.

Of course, I wasn't aware that Autofire wasn't an original term...

It goes something like this.

There was a civilization of tiny crabs that got fed up with being smaller than literally everyone else to the point that they built giant mecha.

Except, because they were tiny, 'giant' means 'human sized'. Granted, they made them really well, to the point where they could upload themselves as magical data (we anime now) and control them like a second body, then port out whenever the need arose. There were only biped mecha, though- and it never actually occurred to me until I started describing this. Funny how things make perfect sense during, but not after..

Things got incomprehensible for a while, weird disjointed things like levitating water and literally falling to the other side of a planet, that was pretty great. I'm going to take some retelling liberties here and inject some sense of a story to this next part, which was 80% of the dream. A little bit more fluff here, some restraint of information there..

Then we switch off to the Protagonist, as there's usually one in longer movie-like dreams. Guy's got one of these robot-bodies and never leaves it. Might as well be a haunted suit of armor for all anybody cares. He's got a shoulder cam that's set to record most of the time. Chats it up with the people he passes, tries not to give out a name, uses 'Jeeb' as a joke name since he usually just gives people heebie-jeebies.

Basically, a drifter clad in a powersuit goes from town to town doing odd jobs, like fixing some broken pipes, welding the frame of a door that got damaged in a nasty storm, hunting down the rock monster that's been harrassing people, etc... except, every time, there's at least one contract on some wild magical 50-foot-whatever that just happens to be already dead by the time he gets to it.

So, using that trusty shoulder-camera, he proves that it is in fact dead... and torn to bits. Logically, there's a much lesser reward for just finding something- you don't pay an exterminator if he just finds the bee nest instead of killing it - and then there's a contract to find whatever the heck killed it first.

Which, conveniently, is a way to leave town without giving anybody a lot of suspicion. Since this keeps happening, something is definitely amiss. And, predictably, someone eventually notices this pattern, Protagonist #2. There was absolutely 0 exposition for this guy, by the way, he just suddenly had relevance. Let's pretend he's some sort of rookie detective or whatever.

Stuff happens (again, a fuzzy point of the dream) and then things make sense again, with P2 following P1 without being seen... in the middle of the wilderness. I'm not sure either, bear with me here.

Then a big storm starts pouring down. Except this is some planet that isn't Earth, so obviously the weather has to be super-threatening. It was uber-hail, in summary. Predictably, this causes P2 to lose the trial of P1, so P2 says "screw this" and tries to find the nearest place of sanctuary.

This happens to be a cave. Creepy things live in caves. However, when icy death is trying to crush you, creepy things are a much lesser evil.

P2 shines his light at the far end of the cave, and whoaho! There's somebody asleep over there, clad in some foreign powersuit. P2 walks up, and lo and behold... nothing happens, no matter how much prodding. P2 finds this bizarre, as people don't die in their sleep on this planet, and there are no visible wounds anywhere. You can probably guess where this is going, since my half-lucid self did too. Something makes some strange rhythmic 'scrape... scrape...' noise, as if metal was being pulled across the rock, then stops.

P2 shines a light into the darkness... and once again, nothing scary, just black, black, and some bizarre cave spiders.

At this point, P2 finally notices the shoulder camera, and decides to give a look through the files. This is definitely P1's suit.

Then he gets to the parts where he supposedly finds something already dead, and instead finds combat footage.. of the suit deactivating, then some giant plated thing coming out of nowhere and ripping the poor 'monster' apart, making a terrifying thing look like some poor defenseless puppy.

Two and two together, P1 is the monster he said he was hunting down every time he jumped towns, withholding the combat files and lying intentionally. But what was the point? Why go through the trouble? Was he just sick of hiding in-

Oh, right, this is a cave, and that's his suit (Turns out big things can use the machines, too).

Scrape... scrape... scr- and sudden pause.

Once again, P2 shines a light over, and- ironically- they're equally afraid of each other, the dragon covered in jagged plates being pointedly still, same as our hapless detective.

And cut. Everything was incomprehensible or uninteresting after this, and then I woke up and was sad that it was over. It was senseless fun, I tell you.

I've had this recurring dream every now and then since I was like 7, where I feel like all my fingers feel fat and elongated or something, and they feel alien. It's a disgusting feeling, it's more of a sensation than a dream I guess, I think it could be related to doing something like sleeping on my arm or hand or something. The feeling disappears when I wake up.
The worst part of it is I'm driven by that freaking weird, uncontrollable autistic urge to constantly touch all my fingers together in my dream.

It's probably something psychological, like simple urges like that gnawing at my subconsciousness.
