I'm not getting a controller until a few weeks, so I'm trying to play the game with a full mouse-less keyboard control scheme, to play comfortably on a macbook, but mine just doesn't work. I'm trying to make one, but it doesn't work for me.

Can anyone give me a full mouse-less keyboard control scheme using W A S D keys as movement?

EDIT: Added why I'm using keyboard controls.
EDIT 2: I mean mouse-less keyboard control.

Was there something wrong with your gamepad (you had a thread about that)? Experiment with different mappings, you have all the time to do it. Sorry, I cannot provide any example as all my controls are of the default WASD scheme.

other thread

Yeah, your other nearly identical thread is here. Ideally, that thread would have been continued. And what is wrong with the default scheme for you? That would help us understand how to design an alternative scheme. Anyway, I use
* WASD for movement
* shift for weapon switching
* space for shielding
* ZXC for sprite skills
* QE for the first two pickups and 1234 for all of the pickups
* mouse direction for facing
* mouse button for attacking/action
* combinations of shift, space, and mouse for dash and shield bash

Yeah, my dad said he will buy

Yeah, my dad said he will buy me one for my birthday in a few weeks, so for now, I have to use a keyboard.
Also, I mean full keyboard, without a mouse, so I can enjoy game better when I play with a macbook on the couch.

trackpad?

On my Mac notebook I sometimes play Spiral Knights using my trackpad. It's not as good as a true mouse for gaming, but I can do non-stressful things such as auctioning, Stratum 5, etc.

A trackpad might be better than pure keys, where your facing direction will be restricted to 45-degree increments, so that you can't really play without auto-targeting.

I can't imagine aiming without a mouse. @_@

From my experience, the trackpad will not work while keys are being pressed. Depends on the laptop and your settings, I guess, but that's always been the experience for me.

How about...
WASD for movement, right
Either doubling WASD for facing direction or use Arrow keys
L for attack, P for shield (with WASD facing); Option for attack, / for shield (w/ arrow key facing)
, . and / for weapon switching or slots? Maybe? (assigning slots changes weapons quicker though...)
XCV for sprite skills (because my thumb is more comfortable there, and B is already the default key for floor map, so it feels closer too)
Bopp's suggestion for pickups (QE and 1234, although I use QEFR for weapon slots)
Space for dash, or Shift if your pinkies need work to do

Although it's been two days since the OP... maybe you've found a comfortable setup already?
what setup did you find for your mac?

OS X (apples Operating System) has drivers for microsoft. USB mice are compatible.

You can use trackpad while

You can use trackpad while moving, it works fine. I even tried LD with trackpad aiming, got 12k so it isn't terrible.

Though idk your control scheme, so do your thing. If you ever want to switch to ESDF then I might be able to help.

agree

On any Mac, the trackpad definitely works while keys are being pressed. An informal survey of people around me turned up nobody who has ever heard of a trackpad not working while keys were being pressed. So perhaps there is something very unusual about your system, Raz-Aquato.

Yes, you can plug in USB mice made by just about any manufacturer. But using them on a couch is not easy.

The Goodest control scheme

The most efficient controls are as follows

WASD-well, moving

space bar-toggle auto target (u gotta hold it down if u like to use AT)

left mouse button-shield

right mouse button-attack

map scroll up to moving up a weapon, map scroll down to moving down a weapon

pet and usables are up to you

Ask Whimsicality. He works wonders in LD and uses arrow keys - might be some assistance

I don't know about using WASD for movement if you're going mouseless. Arrow Keys feel more natural in that sense, but I'm just speaking as someone who doesn't own a decent USB mouse and my laptop's touchpad is, for lack of a better term, crap.

My control scheme is:

Arrow Key Up: Move North, Look North
Arrow Key Left: Move West, Look West
Arrow Key Down: Move South, Look South
Arrow Key Right: Move East, Look East
Z: Action (Attack, etc)
X: Shield
C: Strafe
V: Dash
Shift: Toggle Auto Target*
F: Previous Weapon
Space Bar: Next Weapon
E, R, T: Sprite Skills
Q: Shield bash
1 through 4: Quickslots for Vials/Pills
WASD + Touchpad: For when I feel like gunning.

*It's very much possible to play without using it, but you won't have an easy time if you use Handguns. Bombing and Swordfighting is simple enough without using a mouse to aim, but gunning is just living hell, it really makes you feel that restriction of being limited to 45 degree increments of aiming when everyone else has access to a full 360 degrees. Just because I've gotten used to playing with Arrow Keys doesn't mean going mouse-less controls is easy for everyone. I recommend looking up "The Arrow Key Challenge" if you want to see why.
