Returning player, wondering about fire crystals

So returning player here. Hi everybody! Forge update destroyed my guild and friend group so I stopped playing years ago (and missed all the events aww).

Here's the deal: It takes 453 radiant fire crystals to heat a 5* weapon. What's the best way of getting these? They are too expensive to buy with CE (yeah no) and I haven't had any dropping naturally. My friend said that "unless [I] want to do 100 FSC runs, stick with fully heated 4* as it does more damage".

Is this true? Am I a four star person now? Seeking advice.

I shoot things with guns if that makes any difference. Bang~

FAQ

This is a frequently asked question. Here is my answer, with links to a few resources. It hasn't been updated for the new Dreams and Nightmares mission, which gives a lot of Radiants. Also check out Fehzor's guide.

By the way, heating a 5-star item takes 453 Radiants at high chances, but only an expected 420 Radiants at medium chances. So the rational thing to do is medium chances, unless you are hoping for better chances of forge bonuses (prize box, etc.), which are not well understood.

Yes, 5-star weapons typically do less than damage than their fully heated 4-star counterparts until about heat level 8 or so. So don't upgrade a weapon until you have a bunch of Radiants stored up.

Also, armor and shield benefit very little from heating. So heat those only if you don't need those Radiants for weapons any time soon.

Welcome back.

^Good advice I'll give you

^Good advice

I'll give you some numbers based off of Bopp's post and my experiences as well. From Fehzor's guide, Dreams and Nightmares Elite drops about 24 radiants on average per run. Assuming you can do this mission in 15 minutes (average speedrun time), you make 1.6 Radiants per minute.

FSC, on the other hand, drops 18 crystals for the entire mission. Assuming radiant crystals cost 1200 crowns per from AH prices, and FSC elite takes 30 minutes, you make 1 radiant per minute (approximately 12k crowns per run, account for crystals.) 12000/1200 = 10 Rads from crowns/tokens/materials gained, + 18 rads = 30 rads/30 minutes.

So, 1.6 radiants per minute vs. 1 Radiant per minute = 283 minutes vs 453 minutes = (rounding to better looking values) 4.75 hours vs. 6.5 hours of farming for radiants.

Oh yeah, this is per 5* item too. One loadout (with 2 weapons) would be 24 hours of straight D&N grinding. I miss the time when you could heat 5* in 2 vana runs....oh well

Taking into account Bopp's advice of not heating shields or armor past lvl 5, the time is significantly reduced. Well, there ya go, GL heating

Thanks guys. I did try

Thanks guys. I did try searching but nothing appeared relevant (guess I should have tried Bing with site: search).

Looks like I need to rank up a bit. I'm 9-1 at the moment as that's when people stopped caring. Need to actually do FSC again for rank, haha. I'm Australian so the game is twice as hard. :|

Still good to know. I've been crafting some of the new guns "just because" so I have a few new things to heat and upgrade (and a recipe to find, oh the basil runs I remember you dearly)
