Well the title says about half of it. This UV would be called something to the extent of "Clip size increase" which would do exactly what you'd expect, increasing the amount of shots you can fire before you have to reload, now i realize with some guns this would be completely OP, *cough* alchemer *cough* and thus you would limit how many shot increases you can get, E.G. you will be able to get 2 shot increase for blaster, but it would be impossible to get more than one with alchemer lines or autogun lines.

5 shot blaster? That alone makes this suggestion non-ideal.
3 shots for an alchemer even would be OP. I think it would be safe to assume clip sizes have been thought out by OOO already, and changing them would throw off balance.
Keep in mind that people know of the sheild cancel+weapon switch technique.
I like part of it, but at the same time I dislike it.
It could lead to some really amazing gear balances, such as chaos getting clip size decrease: low per piece, and the new gunner gear getting "clip size increase: low" per piece.
At the same time, the amount of shots in guns are meant to be balanced. Having gear that increases clip size by medium, then having a "very high" UV on it would mean you have an 8-shot autogun. Similarly, an 8-shot callahan. Imagine that with ASI: maximum.
If we had a clip size increase at all, it would have to have a universal maximum value. Such as you can get up to 50% more shots per gun, rounded up. This means a 9-shot antigua would be possible, and a 5-shot blaster would too. However, you only get 1 more shot with a magnus or autogun. With this same idea, we can decrease shots by up to 50% as a balance bit, such as strikers or guardians having -1 to clip size in lockdown, and recons having +1 (this can be overcome by correct gear usage).
Overall, interesting idea. I don't know if it's the best decision for balance, but if for whatever reason we get something like this in game I'll be one of the first to jump onto the testing server to try it out.
If anything the OLD gunner gear should get the buff since the new gunner gear is already amazing
This might be nice to have on the old gunner sets as something line an exclusive bonus (similar to MSI). It shouldn't be a UV because it would be extremely pay to win but making it a special buff might work. FYI for this to work we would need the OLD gunner hats to get recolored (so we can tell the difference). http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/110124
I was considering the old gunner sets to get a med boost and the new ones get a low boost if this sort of thing were to be introduced.
Honestly, I agree that having it be a UV would be a bad move, but having it be a special boost would be something nice. If it is a UV, I'd say give it the shield treatment in that you can only get the boosts via crafting, otherwise tag them onto some gunner gear. You could add debuffs to clip size on other gear too in order to balance it out if needed.
Well if we are thinking about clip shot increase what about:
- longer range for normal shots, weaker damage?
- lower range, but stronger damage?
- longer ricochet for alchemers, but takes away one clip?
- faster bullet speed, but longer charge time for charge atatck?
- And just a away we can actually modify our weapons including adding accessories to our weapons.
This certainly would be interesting but would remove a certain predictability in LD. Many rely on being able to dodge a gunner's shots and hitting them when they go to reload. If you increase the clip size a gunner that would be out of a clip could get a surprise shot in on the enemy. For some guns this would be game changing (shock and freeze and stun).
