Gameplay lag - Anyone have this?

I am having a hard time with some lag while playing. I just joined, and I have downloaded everything I should have.

What happens: Animation is slow but doesn't freeze. Loading screen takes a long time to load, and then sometimes, just doesn't.

My graphics on the game are great, I see everything clearly, but it's like the game is running in a just detectable slow mo.

I looked on youtube and all of the people who had videos had amazing fast gameplay.

I am on a PC, it's not the greatest, but it should work fine and I have tons of space. I have Intel Extreme Graphics, and super high speed internet. Windows XP Pro

Is there something wrong? Is there a full downloadable game?

Random stats:

Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4
Memory: 504MB Ram
DirectX: 9.0
Thank you.

Upgrade

There is nothing I can do for upgrading the actual computer, it is from the school I am in.

I tried going to update my driver but I can't figure out how to do it, or if it can even be updated.

This thread probably belongs

This thread probably belongs in the tech support section.

You can try some of the stuff in this wiki page: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Performance_issues_FAQ
Unfortunately, you are really on the low end of the playable hardware spectrum. Not sure if you'll be able to improve gameplay that much with that hardware. :/

EDIT:
"There is nothing I can do for upgrading the actual computer, it is from the school I am in."
Slow your roll, Speed Racer! I can't condone playing video games on hardware that doesn't belong to you! If you get in trouble for messing with the computer, don't blame us. :3

Lol I won't blame you, I am

Lol I won't blame you, I am fine to download whatever I want ;)

Is this the reason I get black screen freezes and it takes so long to download a new area?

Thanks for the help, sorry for the wrong section, I don't know how to delete threads...

I've experienced this too.

I've experienced this too. There are several possible explanations:

1) You have a bad internet connection. Whenever my internet connection drops out the game slows to a crawl and my character starts "teleporting" around the room. Check your latency. Look in the little circle just above the top right hand corner of the floor map. There should be bars representing your latency. Two orange bars means the game is playable, but you'll have some lag. One small red bar is bad, unplayable. If there's nothing there then you're disconnected.

2) You have another program open that is eating up all your system resources. Press ctrl + shift + esc to open up the task manager. Try to find the process that is taking up all the CPU and memory and kill it. If it happens to be javaw.exe, then you probably need another computer.

3) You have a slow computer and need an upgrade

4) There's a memory leak somewhere. This should be a rare occurrence. If it's happening frequently then the issue is probably on your end. Try upgrading Java and see if that helps. If it doesn't, then look at reasons 1-3 above.

I don't think regular posters

I don't think regular posters can delete threads, but you can move this to Technical Support by editing your first post and changing the dropdown menu.

"Is this the reason I get black screen freezes and it takes so long to download a new area?"
Probably. Try updating Java (if you are allowed to!), this game doesn't use DirectX.
The technical support FAQ has a link to the desktop client download, but again, don't install if there's the potential for you to get in trouble. I work at a high school, and let me tell you, it annoys the heck out of your system administrators when you kids do crap like this. >:V

Aside from what Zanoi said

Aside from what Zanoi said there is also the possibility of crummy programming. I have a blazing fast new computer and have to play this game on smallest resolution in windowed mode and still get choppy, bad gameplay most of the time in groups and around fire. It's really just bad network programming, they need to hire somebody who does a better job I think. I play from Europe, so the servers are far away, but that should be accounted for in a game that seems this simplistic in my mind. I mean, I play plenty of other much more taxing games server wise with no FPS latency.
