To a player who wants to play SK as they could have before the advent of the mission system, many problems are posed. For example, if someone wanted to use the clockworks to level up gear and get crowns/materials, they would be prevented from doing so by the rule that restricts star level on equipment based on mission ranking. There is not even a clockworks substitute for missions. It would also be great if people could actually earn a profit by selling recipes as they once could, but the availability of most recipes in the Hall of Heroes prevents this. The following suggestions seek to remedy those problems stated above.
I. Make clockworks progress equivalent to mission progress. This means that a certain amount of progress in the clockworks would be able to level up a knight to the corresponding mission rank. For example, if a knight who had all full-heat 3* gear defeated the Royal Jelly, they would advance to rank 6 (Knight Elite) (and thus would be able to wield 4* gear as well as access the rank 6 missions). This way, one would not need to go through all the missions in order to progress; they would have the option of progressing through the clockworks. Other equivalents between clockworks and missions would be derived similarly as above.
II. Make Basil's prices lower than those at the Hall of Heroes. This change would make it possible for a player to get crowns by selling recipes. With the Hall of Heroes, knights don't need to go to Basil in the clockworks to get recipes; they need only to go to the Hall of Heroes and buy recipes for the same prices as they could at Basil. This makes it impossible to profit by selling recipes at the Auction House. However, lowering the prices at Basil would be an adequate solution: for example, setting the price at Basil at 3000 cr for a recipe that could be bought from HoH for 4000 cr would make it possible for a knight to profit by selling the same recipe anywhere between those two values.
Remember, the idea here is to make the clockworks playable and less obsolete.
