I have no idea if this was suggested before, but don't we need more of a background for Spiral Knights? All I know is that we were in some kind of war and we went to Cradle because we found a power that we need and was shot down.
What was the war about? Who or what started it? Why do we need Cradle's core? What the heck are we? Robots, humans, aliens, or cyborgs? Since we are Spiral Knights, shouldn't we KNOW why we need the core other than to fly back home?
Please don't put your own imagination here. Leave that for another forum.
I don't think having a heavy backstory is important for Spiral Knights so much as creating a story while we play is. In the more recent Elder Scrolls games, you are a nameless prisoner. That is your entire backstory. What you do while in the game, however, is what makes the lore so rich.
The backstory we have was that we were at war with the Morai. We were almost brought to extinction, and fled to find a power source. The lore didn't even have that in the past, only being that we crash landed on Cradle and were trying to find an energy source to go home.
Let's focus on what we're doing here on Cradle before we start to dwell in the past. In a game like Spiral Knights we don't need to go backwards into the history of the Order... we're here on Cradle now, and as such, we should tell the story of our time on Cradle, not our entire lifespan on Isora.
