This is late, but still needed as it seems like a lot of players don't know how this works in-game, noobs or experienced players.

This is referring to all loot, being it from boxes, creatures, bosses, etc.

If you're ALIVE:

You get everything that is destroyed/broken by anyone.

Only hearts will disappear after 30 seconds or so. So feel free to split up. Everything else stays. No buts.

---

If you're dead or disconnected:

Any boxes broken during that time will be empty, monsters will not drop any loot; at least not in waves that spawn after one's death.
The dead person does not receive any boss tokens unless they've died close enough to the boss's defeat.

---

If you've been sparked but haven't gotten up:

This is useful for friends who need to step away for a bit but could use some cr, just spark them and break the boxes / kill monsters, and try not to go not a party button which would prevent them from accessing the loot later...

Essentially, it's the same as being alive, but get up quickly to grab your loot as it depends on the patience of your party.

---

How not to be a jerk to your friends:

OOO removed the obvious mark/sign of whether your comrades is dead (not sure how this is alt-proofing), so please wait before breaking any boxes, especially after an arena, danger room, or boss fight. Sort out who wants to gets revived and how, if necessary, and move on. If you're in a rush, then solo and mail something for your fallen comrade to obtain a spark if you want.

If someone has been afk for too long and has died, please kick them first, and then break the boxes. This may vary depending on whether or not they told you ahead of time that they would be away, but it's just nice to do so anyway.

---

How not to miss out on loot:

Announce that you'll pay for a spark in advance, and see who is willing to spark you.

I've experienced contrary.

When I dc, as soon as I come back, all the drops appear on the floor in one huge swarm of loot. This also leads to the glitch where a piece of loot appears flying in the air, if a party member is standing on top of the tile it would have spawned on.

Much of this is covered in the wiki article Party. But probably some of it is not covered. So you would be doing us a real service if you would edit that article to lay out everything clearly.
