PvP Daily Alternative Lobbies

We know that many players complain about Lockdown lobbies, some things being more unfair than others. I'm not going to try to solve complaining here, but instead, suggest an alternative to just removing things:

Add a new lobby for each PvP minigame that has a modified value to it.

What do I mean by modified value? Well, values would change a few items in the minigame to shake up the meta. Some modified values could include:

    LOCKDOWN
  • Auto-Target is permanently disabled
  • Trinket slots are disabled
  • Costumes are enabled
  • Battle Sprites are enabled
  • Dash is disabled
  • Shield bash is enabled
  • Unique Variants are disabled
  • Gear is provided per class
  • Team sizes are increased
  • Instant respawn (more like 3 second respawn)
  • More or less point requirements
  • More or less time on the game timer
  • Certain classes disabled
  • All classes disabled - use your own shield!
  • All players have all slots unlocked
  • Players can access their arsenal in the locker room
  • These are all potential ideas. More or less could be in an official release, however these are options that would change the game.

    BLAST NETWORK

  • Dash is enabled
  • Number of hits to kill a player is increased
  • Instant respawn (more like 3 second respawn)
  • More or less time on the game timer
  • Give players a 1-hit shield - you can protect yourself against one hit per life
  • Shield key drops a non-damaging status bomb. Statuses are dropped like other power-ups
  • Larger teams and/or more players.
  • Smaller teams, more players. There can be 8 2-player teams!
  • These are all potential ideas. More or less could be in an official release, however these are options that would change the game.

If I queue for a PvP minigame, would I be thrown into one of these lobbies without knowing?
No. All daily lobbies are on a separate queuing system. You will not be put into a daily lobby without choosing to.

Is there only one lobby a day, or is there one per PvP minigame?
I would recommend a single daily lobby. If you only play Lockdown or you only play Blast Network, then daily lobbies may not be for you. This also keeps each community (no matter how dead Blast Network is) not split up by having a "lockdown variant" or a "blast network variant. However, depending on player feedback, I'm sure Three Rings could add one of each.

I just want to play my PvP games. Why should I even play daily lobbies?
Daily lobbies give higher rewards for an equal entry cost. You will gain 2 krogmo coins by default per game, whether or not you win or lose, and if you do win you will obtain 4. If you haven't been on the winning team for 3 games, you are given a consolation prize, which you can use to play any Krogmo Coliseum game of your choice without the admission fee. This timer resets after you either win a game or receive your prize. These prizes are unbound.
In addition, King Krogmo only requires ten energy to be bribed. He will also have a larger selection of items to give away when bribed and depending on what tier you are (if applicable). Unique rewards can include: themed bomber armor costumes to match every bombhead, special and unbound event materials (obsidian materials, kat tribe fetishes, fiendish glyphs/fiendish ID pass), a "krogmo prize box" which contains costumes and accessories in a purple/yellow theme like the boxes Sullivan stands upon, UV tickets, crown bonus, and rarities.

That's just about everything. Is there anything else that should be covered? Any ideas for more "values" we can make be a daily variant? If they sound neat I'll add them to my list in italics with your forum name on it.

Well..

This sounds like a really good idea fangel. My only question is, what is the point of playing regular pvp versus this new set up that you have? Because the way i see it, i would rather we just remove regular pvp for this new and improved pvp. Also, if there is a pojnt to playing regular pvp, shouldn't the cost values be dropped for regular pvp so that people still attend the game? Because paying only 10 energy to bribe kromo sounds way more cost effective to me then paying 25 energy at regular pvp.

I tried to go over that

I tried to go over that in the last big paragraph. The idea is that there is one or a couple things chosen from that list and put into a PvP game environment. You would not be able to choose the daily PvP game, so every day you would get something new. Right now we have something like that in the prestige missions/danger missions, but with PvP we can get really creative.

The point is that regular PvP is still in. I'm more in support of a single game per day, such that if you like playing Lockdown, and the daily PvP game is Blast Network, that you would keep playing normal Lockdown. If the daily Lockdown game disables strikers and and disables the dash ability, then maybe primary strikers will want to keep to the regular lockdown. The idea is that this is not a replacement for our current system, but rather an addition that adds new, fun, and interesting ideas into the fray. They're only around for one day anyways, so if you don't like today's PvP game, then you just need to wait one day and bam, maybe you'll get your dream Lockdown game of no UVs, no AT, disabled trinket slots and instant respawn times.

The idea for bribes is that if you're playing PvP for the experience, you'll keep playing the old games. If you're playing for rewards, (i.e. you need tokens), then you can do the dailies and instead of being crushed by the other team or AFKing in the locker room you can at least participate and have fun.

hmm..

@Fangel:

Oh, i understand what your intentions are now. My bad, i thought you meant that these daily pvp games would last all day and we would be able to repeat them over. So now that i know that we can only do them once a day, it seems pretty balanced. Thanks for the clarification.

Oh, no it was a repeat thing

My thoughts were that you would repeat the game over and over if you wanted to all day. However the game itself is different enough from the set in stone and standard PvP games that you'd be able to play more reliably. Let's say the daily game is a Blast Network lobby with two-hit deaths and a one-hit defensive shield. If you're into Blast Network and you want to give this game a go, then by all means you can play it all day. If you don't really like Blast Network, or just want to play the ol' fashioned version so that one-hit is a kill, then you can still play the regular one. The idea is that the entry fee is the same so you can invest in one or the other and still find joy in the PvP side of Spiral Knights.

Switching up this repeatable lobby every day just means we'll have something new every day. The giving different rewards to the daily game is so that people who may not ever want to try PvP, or are just in it for the recipes, can enjoy themselves in a less... Well, in a less unfair environment.

Being flourish-locked in PvP every game is not fun. New players trying to get into Lockdown have a long time before they start having fun if they haven't researched up on the game's items, so giving an alternative to the basic games that are A) more fun for newbies and B) a giant refreshment for veterans, with better rewards for anyone who's seeking rewards, is a great way to turn the PvP scene from a rather boring and predictable setup to an exciting and unpredictable adventure.

PVP

@Fangel:

i understand the idea now. But i still feel we should match the energy prices so that one pvp game is not preferred over the other just because one is cheaper to bribe king kromo. Nice idea though.

@ Fangel

All slots and arsenal stations would have to be included since if your trinket or weapon slots expire then all the loadouts with trinkets or weapon slots get those removed.

I really like your ideas since they have been topics on several threads but nicely wrapped into one.

I would also like to see this as a toggleable option for GVG. One guild can challenge another guild with multiple adjustments added on to make the game more interesting or fair. This could lead to REAL competitive LD matches and less P2W matches. It would also be fun and quirky and would probably keep even me interested.
