Hi I'm sorry if this is the wrong section of the forums to be posting this topic, but I recently updated to the most recent 64-bit version (my laptop is a 64-bit) and before I had been running Spiral Knights and the occasional Minecraft just fine. I can't even open Spiral Knights anymore, because it says "The item "javaw.exe" has been changed or removed" because for once I said "Remove old versions of java." I am not entirely sure what to do, I mean I could reinstall java for 32-bit and reinstall Spiral Knights but I don't want to do any damage to my laptop.

I opened up Minecraft to see if it would work, but for whatever reason I got like 2 fps and it said it couldn't keep up. I'm not asking about Minecraft here, just saying that I think the java on my computer now isn't right or something.

I think I may just reinstall the old java but since the .exe file is gone now from Spiral Knights I guess I will have to reinstall it for the fourth time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, I am a computer noob so I'm sorry if Spiral Knights can only run on 32-bit java.

The java version is version 8, update 51. I'm running on windows 8.1 right now, and like I said I have a 64-bit so this java should work.

Thanks,
-Haunted

Apologies for the double post!

I am so sorry, my computer glitched out at me and said that a comment field was necessary to make a topic, so i refreshed and it must have posted it twice, sorry.

Greetings,

I'm guessing you're launching from a desktop shortcut? If so then the error is entirely accurate. With Java 7 every update used the same "jre7" folder on your PC. In Java 8 each update has it's own folder, usually "jre1.8.0_<update number>" and the installer wipes old versions. This means you'll need to update your shortcut link. Assuming you use an install with default settings please try this:

1) Right Click your Spiral Knights shortcut and select "Properties"
2) In the new window look for the "Target" field and replace it with the following value exactly as it appears below:
"C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath\javaw.exe" -jar getdown-pro.jar .
3) Save the changes and close the window by pressing OK.
4) Try launching Spiral Knights.

Thank you!

Thank you so much! I ended up uninstalling it and then doing what you said to do, and as we speak it is installing the rest of the game (I'll have to redo my custom controls, but hey) right after you log in! I have been having withdrawals even though it's only been a day or so. Again, thank you so much!
