I'm hoping posting this here in Tech Support will help me get to the bottom of this problem I've had for a while. In short, my game crashes horrifically at random moments in the game. It's a whole system crash; my laptop screen goes black, sound goes choppy (repeating a short burst of noise indefinitely), completely unresponsive to anything, fan on max, etc. Only thing that puts it out of its misery is a forced shut down.
This has ONLY happened whilst I'm in a dungeon, but it never seems to happen in any pattern. There was once when it happened 3 times in a row at the same location, crashing shortly after I rejoined the game. Only thing I can think of is that it usually happens when I just hit or released 'attack' (just swung my sword, just released a charge attack, just set down a bomb). It used to be a rare event but it's happening rather frequently now. Even more annoying, I waste time rebooting and energy because I get booted from the level and must pay up again to rejoin.
I've tried everything in the sticky. I've updated my graphics driver (multiple times, as new iterations are released), I've updated my Java to Version 6 Update 26, firewall is not the issue since I CAN play normally, and I'm already running it minimum settings at lowest resolution with vsync off (1024x600) in a window. It happens in both window/fullscreen, both compatability mode on/off. I also installed and reinstalled SK locally. I feel like it's not an overheating issue since the system response to that is to immediately power off (and in this crash it just stays on indefinitely).
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Is your computer overheating...? At first glance, it sounds like it might be; you should check for dust or debris inside/around your computer.
All the same, here is the Performance Issues FAQ--please look through that and tell us if that helps/doesn't help.
