Now that the story of SK has progressed some I would like to introduce an idea I've had for a while.

Swarm themed Scenario Rooms

So what does this mean? Basically there will be rooms similar to Punkin King or Devilite rooms (tortodrone ones) BUT there will be monsters in them as well as a Swarm Source.

These rooms can only show up in certain places though and contain only one swarm species.

Wolver Dens will have Poisonous Brambles and Void Wolvers as well as mixed wolver species.

Deconstruction Zones will have Gremlins supported by a few Lumbers. Scorchers and Void Gremlins as well as Void Lumbers and mixed Lumber species.

Lichenous Lair will have Void jellies and a few minis (a few as in only a dozen). There will also be jellies/lichens that fit that floor's theme (one species).

Graveyards will have Void Zombies as well as a single Deadnaught and a few mixed zombie species. As a sidenote Void Zombies cannot be Revived by the Deadnaught.

In the center of these rooms will be a swarm source that will buff the monsters.... when all the monsters are gone the swarm source will change from it's current indestructible form to one with limited HP. Killing this will drop many Gold coins and random materials (non event or SL) as well as spawn in 12 Red Boxes.

As a point of lore these will only appear in non mission stratum 6 elite runs.

Elite only?

Why only Elite? Why not just non-mission stratum 6 levels?

Most play on Elite anyway so it would be an almost unnoticed quirk. However, it also means that there is a way to avoid them all together so your party can't pressure you into doing it if you don't want to.

Well...

I like the idea, but a problem with this is that it's a bit too much exposure and "spoiler alert" for players attempting to find some linear path in this game. Haha, good luck with that!

What I'd do instead -

Have scenario rooms like the "Hidden Hideout" floor of the Spark and Roar rank mission. Just a few dark squares cluttering your screen, dead bodies everywhere, no big deal, right? D: With boxes around.

If you want void monster combat, I would suggest:

You encounter a strange room that seems like it doesn't belong here. Almost as if it forced itself out of some place below (lots of busted metal and such, with a pitch black floor). It is dripping with black squares and "stinks of whispering venom" (Herex). In the center is an inactive swarm seed. If you have a special item with you, you can wake the seed up by interacting with it. Doing so would spawn spawn a few void monsters (specific to stratum in arcade...wild path = wolvers, etc. implying that the swarm has recently "taken them"). Killing these and the swarm seed rewards three red boxes that spawn in, as you say. This is for "weeding out" the swarm and it would be fitting with the lore we've seen so far, I think. This room has been engineered by Herex to move up and out, carrying the swarm power he seems so fond of. Gremlins like to tinker around with the clockworks, we see this with decon zones and such. I might be out on a limb here.

This "special" item could be obtained via expeditions in the core or provided in some way by the Sleeper. If you don't have a special item, your knight gets stunned when interacting with the seed, a nasty swarm noise is heard, then your knight gets pushed out of the room/to the wall with a knockback wave. Rinse and repeat until someone comes with the special item. You could have fun poking at the nasty thing if you want, but many players unfamiliar with the game's end content would be like "what the heck is this?" and that would be pretty swell IMO.

I think the special item could be a magical sponge on a stick. Poke poke.
