Friendly Fire option, inspired by taking a pillow to the face

So, I'm sure we're all aware of the tendency of "Sweet Dreams" to smack fellow players, even outside of the Coliseum.

This has inspired me. The option for each individual player to "take friendly fire" could open up a whole new world of gameplay.

In the options menu, check or uncheck the following:

-Take friendly fire from all (weapons, shield bash, pickups, sprites)
-Take friendly fire from swords
-Take friendly fire from bombs
-Take friendly fire from handguns
-Take friendly fire from misc (shield bash, pickups, sprites)

Obviously, defeating a fellow player would not make them drop loot, haha. It would just work like it did with the pillow. But just imagine the "realistic" difficulty of avoiding not only the attacks of the enemy, but also your friends! All your habits would change, and that's likely not a good thing, but man, what a mode of gameplay! It would be completely different and fun to do once in a while. Perhaps knights willing to train themselves under these harsh conditions could be recognized by Spiral HQ in some way. Ultimate difficulty level, engage!

EDIT: to be fitting, perhaps this could only be an option for the arcade, as I imagine Spiral HQ would want to minimize risk lore-wise for missions they send us into.

EDIT: to be clear, these options apply to you and you only. You can't edit someone else to take friendly fire from you, for example. You must...convince them to toggle it ;P

EDIT: it is likely this is best left as a personal challenge/friend endeavor. I imagine it would be used the most in training halls for fun. There's little incentive to make play a harder version of a game if there's not significant reward. Unlocking a difficulty level as Fangel suggested has a lot of potential, but you'd need to be extra careful joining a party that has the difficulty level of "you will suffer horrible death via friendly fire" enabled. But the loot could be upped quite a bit, considering it would be controlled fundamentally by the unlocked difficulty, and we all know difficulty levels influence a number of things, including that loot we want so very badly. I'd be in favor of "no pickups from boxes ever unless it's a heart box, then pills yes of course" with Friendly Fire difficulty mode. Considering how the game works, I'd imagine that FF would always be the highest difficulty, not an option per difficulty level, but that's up for debate.

Interesting idea

Having an additional difficulty level would be neato. Granted, if we added friendly fire into the mix we should at least balance it back out with health revives for that difficulty only. Don't want an accidental team kill to lead to more sparks being forced to be used.

I'd say this be an "unlockable" difficulty. If you play through a mission on the "elite" difficulty, then you unlock this difficulty, and then can play through it with the friendly fire mode. This also means you'll have to run through an arcade on elite first before being able to host a party on this new difficulty, however you can be invited to parties in this mode without doing it yourself.

Prestige missions would follow the same rules, but since you can't replay most prestige missions you won't be able to use this difficulty (danger missions, dailies... However repeatable missions would be doable).

I'm not so sure

This would be quite interesting but I'm sure most players wouldn't like it in the long run. Short term it may be fun but in the end all I can see is hurt feelings and spent sparks.

As a slight alteration to your suggestion why not have players Toggle friendly fire in Guildhalls. Each individual can toggle it on or off and can only be used in their own guild. All weapons are reduced in power (longer fights), MSI is given, Unlimited Emergency Revs (but include a counter to keep track of the number used) and weapons are out when active. Players can run around their guildhalls smacking each other but can stop if they want to.
As a side note once you toggle the friendly fire on you have to wait 30 seconds before toggling it back off.
Players with it off cannot be harmed.

I agree with Holy (on some points)

Also in Training Halls.

I disagree with having a cooldown before toggling it off, and having the weapons reduced in power and MSI given.

Yes to unlimited emergency revives though, just like in Training Halls.

@ VD

Training hall yes.

Cooldown is for those who would abuse the ability to switch between vulnerable yet capable of attacking to invulnerable yet not capable of attacking.

+1

This would make the game much more realistic. Some weapon descriptions even say that knights can be harmed by their own weapons. It's kind of stupid when a brandish charge goes right through your friend.
One concern would be bombers. Nobody would want a bomber in their party if playing with friendly fire.

May I suggest adding collisions with allies? Knights should be able to push idling knights very slowly when walking into them. This will solve the party leader AFK problem and add an additional challenge when fighting in tight quarters.

This would be interesting, however the concerns that Holy-Nightmare proposes are true.

I'd be concerned for bombers, however. I'm assuming that this would come with knock-back as well, and the possibility of status effects. I can imagine problems arising when a party wants to do this option but a bomber joins the group (or people that use brandish line weapons).

In any case, +1.

yeah

I agree with Holy, it would be like Magicka with friendly fire but with the option tl disable it, as Magicka's friendly fire is ALWAYS on, but still, good idea.

@Kian

A bit off-topic, but after looking around in that wiki a bit (as I always do when someone links a wiki), I noticed one boss that's very similar to how you act in the Arcade and Gremlin Chatter...

Are you Grimnir?

cool

I think it sounds pretty cool, but, I think it would be that there would be a different option on "join party" and "create public party" it would ay something like "join party with PVP?" or "create party with PVP?" there would be "yes" and "no" options. That would just make it easier I think.
I think it easier because: People might say "hey, I have my PVP on. Could you do it too?" when they do not really have it on, thus resolving in conflict, namely reporting players for doing lies. I just think it may make it wreak a little less havoc.
And, if omeone said this already, sorry. And I think it would always be PVP in the training hall. Just another suggestion.
