There should be an option to disable certain types of chat messages -

For example, there would be check boxes (somewhere) that say:

Enable "obtained material" messages [X]
Enable "friend/guildmate logged on/off" messages [X]
Enable "received mail" messages [X] (There would still be the orange "new message" indicator on the mail button)

Or.....

I would like to have the ability to disable the entire chat/HUD, as well as having chat tabs and having the option to disable each of those tabs. Of course, the option to keep the chat box as it is now could remain for those who prefer it.

yeah....

One thing is that some people are underaged and still download spiral knights, and even some 13 year olds have moms who dont like global games, so this is something really usefup

They are then breaking the ToS, and are thus not protected by the game. As long as they don't explicitly say how old they are and act kind, though, then it shouldn't really matter as no-one is going to report you for being nice.

I do agree that we need a way to filter out messages we want to see from the game and whatnot. The chat tabs that Dracora-Speaking brings up are very nice, and I'd love to have them in-game to not have guild shenanigans get in the way of people trying to PM me, or trade chat spamming my chat so I can't get important officer messages.

Having a "toggle" for this would be fine for individual messages as well, but the tabs would be preferred.
