I think a cool idea for a gun is the crossbow. Before anything else, I shall list them all off:

2* Crossbow

3* Sharpshooter

4* Speedy Sharpshooter, Poisoned Crossbow, Fiery Crossbow

5* Bolting Sharpshooter, Venomous Sharpshooter, Blazing Sharpshooter

So, the weapon line splits at 4*.
The charge attack will be a massive glowing bolt, that looks clearly like a normal bolt that would come from a crossbow. (For the fire it will be orange and flaming, for poison it will be green with green bubbles coming out, for the normal it will be light yellow.)
There would only be 3 shots before reloading, and reloading is actually different than most guns. (The basic crossbow reload.)
The 4* Poisoned Crossbow and 5* Venomous Sharpshooter deal (as the name implies) poison damage, and fiery and blazing ones do fire.
The weapon line does do complete piercing, but the poisoned and fiery ones deal less damage and the normal ones do powerful piercing, and are also faster, by a tiny bit. The fiery and blazing is almost the same as the poison, only it inflicts fire.
The pun for Bolting Sharpshooter was 100% intended.
As you could probably guess, Poisoned Crossbow turns into Venomous Sharpshooter, and Speedy Sharpshooter turns into Bolting Sharpshooter, and Fiery Crossbow turns into Blazing Sharpshooter.
It would indeed be strange that a crossbow could be held in one hand, but I am sure that someone could come up with a suitable shield. Someone such as me. Perhaps later.
The different looks between the 3 sides are: Poison line looks darker and so do the bolts they fire. At the tips of the poisonous ones, it looks sort of green. The more piercing ones look shiny, sort of like the 3* and above Cobalt line, and fire ones look orange-ish, (slightly,) and have flaming bolts.
The Poisoned Crossbow has a strong chance of causing medium poison, (the Fiery Crossbow is same, except with fire) and the Venomous Sharpshooter has strong chance of inflicting major poison (and again, Blazing Sharpshooter is same, except with fire.)

I hope you like my idea, and all feedback is appreciated as long as it is polite, and consists of no swearing!

For the actual idea -

Please post more information about the basic attacks.

Does it have any special abilities on normal shots (e.g. piercing through multiple enemies)
How fast does it shoot? Slowly (Similar to the Magnus), normally (Similar to the Blaster), or quickly (Similarly to the Antigua)?

I think it should have a more special charge attack...

That sounds like it deals split normal/piercing damage. You should change it to "less damage".

Also, "Bolt" in the names don't seem necessary - I think they should be changed to Poisoned Crossbow, Venomous Crossbow, Fiery Crossbow, and Blazing Crossbow.

I would like a picture of them, thanks! And when you said "(e.g. piercing through multiple enemies)" that reminded me, I thought the EXACT same thing. (without the () or e.g.) I was actually thinking it could go through enemies.
And, it shoots fast.
And the 5* are Sharpshooter, not Crossbow.
And fine. Charge attack will be edited, so look at main post again.
And more edited stuff will be added as well.

Basic side view. Haven't tried a crossbow before, so it doesn't really look good.

I'm better with other things, like Sprite harnesses and shields.

P.S. I think you shouldn't put adjectives in 5-Star weapons. Except if you don't have anything good.
For the 4-Star poison put something like Viper and then for the 5-Star you could probably do King Cobra maybe.

Name Suggestions:
Pure Pierce 4+5: Athenian Hunter, Athenian Sharpshooter
Poison 4+5: Viper Crossbow, King Cobra
Fire 4+5: Blazing Crossbow (meh), Ruby Javelin

Supporting this idea. Though I do think it should either have a long reload animation (loading a magazine full of crossbow bolts) or a slower fire time (loading each bolt after the shot).

My design for the crossbow (see pixel art) uses Bolt racks of three. Of course the reload will be slow.
I suggest this for the reload and/or firing speed.

Fire Rate: Slightly slower than a Blaster (Bolt Cycler)
Reload Time: 1.00 Seconds
If moving at all, you reload 33% slower.
