Yo.
Long time no see. I'm bored. I've got nothing to do and I wanna kill some time, best place to go? The bar. Turns out you need to be over 18, so I came here with a glass of juice instead. I was initially going to make a full video series on a lockdown guide by myself of around 10 videos at 10-ish minutes each but then comes school ( exams for university entrance @_@ ) then having to downgrade to a laptop ( can't go above 10fps when recording ) among other reasons, I gave up after the first one.

Community Lockdown Guide
There's been a few guides here and there for lockdown but they usually don't dive below the surface of the fundamentals sometimes due to the inability to communicate ideas clearly through words ( usually in video format when the person commentating says, "go like squidoosh and then swoosh and then floohwwahhhhkakakakakaaaaa-- $*#% that guy with the polar/w.e" ) but mostly due to the amount of time someone's got to cover all the topics.

So I was thinking, if we just get the community to go in depth on lockdown then we'd have a pretty cool guide for both beginners to get to know a bit about the theory side of things so they can get better quicker, which would hopefully grow the lockdown community and veterans that have gaps in some parts ( like double switching / recon / guardianing ). Everything will also be tidily in one place so we won't have to go searching through the graveyard with all of them undeads.

Main fundamentals of lockdown are bolded subtopics are not :

Recon

Feel free to correct or change what I find are helpful tips when using recon.

1. Be unpredictable in your movements.
2. hide in corners, no one ever checks there.
3. Do a hit and run type of strategy.
4. Deathmark if you can >:D

@Salt
1. Easier said than done. Especially since you have to come out of cloak at some point to attack. Once a striker sees you once, they know you have to be somewhere within that little patch of area when they rush.
2. Except now everyone would check corners after reading that...
3. Sure, but that's seems a bit too obvious to be a tip.
4. Don't deathmark if you have the element of surprise. Exception is if you have strong teammates around. Then, it's more useful to just keep deathmarking and not attack at all.

@Thread
The "putting it all together" example is worded in a confusing way, at least for me.
Instead of:
1.[Attack], [Away]-[To] ...
2. [To]-[Attack], [Away] ...

Can't you just make a sequence of letters/numbers?
For example:
"AS21-AS21-AS2AS2-AS21AS corresponds to three swings of weapon 1 followed by two swings of weapon 2 followed by final swing of weapon 1"
A = attack button press
1 = weapon 1 button press
S = shield button press
2 = weapon 2 button press
- = brief pause

The way it's currently worded makes it seem like "To Attack, Away", which is hard to digest IMO.

My thoughts

@salty @deleted

1. Faking isn't hard to do as a recon. The basis of your movements should go like this: Walk unhidden in one direction. Then, hold your recon shield up, and continue walking for half a second so that the recon cloak will properly activate. Finally, turn the other direction and you should have succesfully faked the striker who is chasing you. Watch some of passunder's videos on youtube (damon180), he does this quite alot as a recon, and it works well.

If you are a striker and chasing such a recon, use your dash to zoom in, pretend to be chasing them (so that they think they will succesfully outplay you), then snap back and swing in the general opposite direction they were headed. (Only do this for seasoned recons, most recons don't understand the very concept of lifting their cloak.

2. People always check there. I'm not talking about a corner in the middle of the map, but I'm mostly talking about areas around cap points. I've tried this tactic before, and I've been consistently shot down by people placing random bullets in my general area, because a corner is usually quite obvious. I suggest backing off, staying out of range until you have your dash. Then either dash in and hit them, or hit them and dash out (depending on how low their health is, always try to stay safe if they have enough health to survive your swing).

3. Ya don't say. (in as sarcastic of a voice as I can muster)

4. I agree with deleted-knight, use a deathmark only if they already know you are there, or it's a team fight. One exception, guardians. If a guardian has his shield up and you have the element of surprise, don't bother. Just deathmark them from the start.

Another tip:

5. Whilst fighting another recon, sit on a capture point towards the side. They usually dash in and try to swing at something on the point, and if you are inconspicuous enough, they will miss you and reveal their position, making an easy kill for you. That, or keep it to a gun fight. (EVERY RECON NEEDS A GUN)
