Id like to know how you like the new jelly look?
- Yes, No, doesnt matter?
As for me:
No, i dont like it.
It reminds me of wart.
molluscum contagiosum or worse.
(Im not talking about the new attack.)

No. Jellies were iconic in their design, simple cubes of jiggly evil intent on body-slamming you with furious intesity. It was amusing and there was nothing wrong with it, if you wanted more traditional slimes and something spikey you always had Lichen for that. I think OOO should have either left Jellies alone, or simply added a new subspecies of spiked Jelly rather than just alter the entire species so radically.
I kinda like the new look... but I'm not totally sold on it.
I'm a big fan of the new mechanics so far though. If we need the old T3 Jellies back, we can just put legs on the treasure boxes and give them a strong desire to cuddle with knights.
Note - I have no problems with their piercing damage addition - I just prefer their earlier image.
Perhaps they could revert the jellies to their previous look and have a telegraph of their spiky attack (ppl have complained about a lack of telegraph for this) by growing spikes while glowing yellow. Then we'd know when they are doing the spiky attack versus when they do their "I'm a jello GLOMP" attack.
But anyway - yeah - I like the spike damage, just not the look.
dislike. slimes and lichens should be two distinct factions even though they are the same monster family. they could have done something different with them to add piercing attacks. instead of lichen like spikes, why not embed a bunch of weapons in the slime? like they sloshed over some dead knights/gremlins and soaked up their equipment, so theyvegot little shrapnel bits sticking out when they do their swirl attack. they didnt need a ranged atttack, especially one thats kinda bogus (spikes teleported across unreasonable boundaries) and derivative of the lichen colony attacks. i suggested this in another thread, but i'll say it again.. i would rather small lichens have that ranged spiked attack than any jelly cubes. that would make more sense considering how the enemy evolves by merging (and the big lichen has a big spike AOE attack).
*shrug* oh well, I'm sure we're stuck with what we got
(to be clear i have a problem with both the new aesthetic and the new attack method.. fine with piercing damage addition/correction in general)
The Slimes definitely looked better without the spikes. If anything, those should be sub-species, as the other said.
Best case scenario would be making them rarer spawns. Higher threat, higher reward, right?
I think it'd be better if the jellies stayed cube-shaped, but then got all spiky when they were shooting out their mid-range attack. Kind of makes more sense to me.
Love the addition of piercing damage. The floor spikes were an unexpected challenge from these former pushovers.
The new look has got to go. I go on T1 runs now just to reminisce about their perfect cubeness. They should just pull a T-1000 and grow a spike when needed, isn't morphability the point of being all squishy?
They look like chaos space marines now.
I like the idea of them growing spikes/getting spikey as majic and culture put it. I don't really like the new look, but I like the additional challenge.
I dont care much about their looks. I'm pretty sure no one would be bitching if they looked like that in the first place. All in all the whole piercing complaint has been solved, sadly there will always be those who like change, and those who have hard times with them.
Spiral knights is only evolving in a good way imo. Them spikey mofos are adding some more challenge and effort in the JK runs. I like that as now it gives incentive doing other gates.
I do not like the look of the new jellies... I was thinking that maybe having parts of their liquid crystallize into sharp, needle like projectiles as they spin might look reasonable. Not the thick, dark, stumps that lichens give, but something white or pinkish.

I don't like the new design
should keep old design and just keep thier new attack
or replace old with new design in jk runs and keep old in ever elase
I like the design of the new 'slimes', but I think the new 'jellies' are really, really ugly.
Also the bogosity of the jelly thorns is being fixed today. Mostly. At least they won't be able to reach through chasms. The way terrain and bombs hide the coming attack warning will likely continue to annoy.
Sorry, I don't care for the new look either. Definetly prefer the cubes, maybe they should make the spikey ones as a new badguy group so we can keep our cubish love. And the impostocube has a nice 'stache.
Basic monsters belong in Tier 1, so if you want your ''iconic'' Jelly Cube then stay there.
I like the Tier 3 Jelly Cube, it looks pretty neat in my opinion, those thorns go well with it. The Tier 2 Jelly Cube looks like it waddled over some pecan chips or something.
I have to admit, I like the new look for the oilers/quicksilvers.
But I am not so much a fan of the upper tier jelly cubes. Right now the spikes just seem a little tacked on.
While I love the balance the piercing damage brings, I don't like the new look at all. With all due respect for the artists, who have so far designed terrific monsters and environments, those horns are really ugly.
Granted, finding a graphic solution to this issue (piercing damage from a jelly) wasn't so trivial, but I think they could have come with better ideas.
What about a spiky shell, for instance?
I love it, in fact. I agree with Loki. The early jellies still have the old looks. They're cute in the tier that is meant to be cute. Mobs deserve to look nastier in stronger tiers. I think it would look stupid if the normal pink jellies had a ground-spike attack. Personally, I thought the artists did a great job making it look like those spikes were designed to be there from day one. I don't see the "tacked-on" look you describe.
@Balian: No offense to you but even if I did dislike the new jelly look I can't see the shell idea you're describing. I don't think it would work.
The only reason I tolerate them is because now we can possibly get spiky jelly equipment. Those would look AWESOME.
It's not bad, but I would like it better if they had jelly spikes with crystal tips if it were possible. Also, high tier jellies could have a crystal crust on their outside that bursts when they attack (kind of like the crystal bomb design.)
i like the purple jellies, it's like a mini crown of spikes. the normal jellies though are a little meh...
I hate it. They looked awesome, and they ruined it.
I like it.
The jellies finally armed themselves for the fight.
Maybe they will stop being stomped into the ground now.

I don't think this thread is about wither jellies have these new attacks (I think they should have something, if not piercing), but all about how they *look*. I just don't think horns look right on giggly jelly.

I like the new looks.
I interpret it as if they put on their armor.
Jellies like spikes.
That is why there are so many in the jelly fortress.
And also explains why Imposto cubes and the Jelly king don't wear them.
They aren't fighters.
Attention, please o3o'
Instead of reducing the amount of heat gained by one "Jelly King Run" they made the enemies even more difficult to defeat.
It's not like the Jelly was ever a "threat" earlier, you could easily rush kill them without loosing a single health point!
I don't mind their new attacks now that they've fixed them, however yes I dislike the new look and would rather have the old look back with the new attacks.
Now that OOO have mostly worked the bugs and balance issues out of the spike attack, I'm a lot more comfortable with the new jellies' gameplay-wise, but I still think that the spikes *look* a bit stapled on.
I miss the old Jelly Cube art. Forget the attack, I don't mind it and they can keep it. But PLEEEEEASE make them regular cubes again. It just isn't the same... ;_;
This is a classic "New Coke" issue. People should have an uncontrollably positive reaction to things that are "new" as "new" promises unexplored possibilities. UNLESS the novelty disrupts their long-term affinity to a brand or image. (Long-term in this case being measured in months, which I guess is long for a video game...)
Just some insight for anyone who is wholly confused by the overwhelming negative reaction to the new jelly artwork.
This is a classic "New Coke" issue.
Maybe, but the Gelatinous cube is kind of an iconic dungeon monster. When i first so them, I wondered why they didn't fill the entire hallway, but a group of them does a pretty good job at that. Jelly cubes with large "horns" are as out of place as birds with large horns, or fish with large horns.
I think they should have made it so that they have little jelly spikes protrude from their bodies when they do the spinny attack, and have the jelly spikes recede after they attack. That way there are still spikes of some sort, but the jellies maintain their level of cuteness.
I don't like the new jelly look either. I prefer the previous cute squares of jello much more than these spiky things :\
