It's like the title says, a specific forum to whine in, could file under complaints i suppose, but it's rarely actually constructive.....
Suggestion: Whining Forum
+1 to Effrul
One man's suggestion is another man's "whining."
I thought about an Economy and Energy forum section, but alongside the noise, there are thoughtful and interesting posts on those topics. I wouldn't want to relegate them to a section of the forum that no one uses. Would you use such a section?
Spiral Knights' economy is a fascinating subject, and I don't think anywhere near as many users would bother reading the threads if they were shunted into a subforum where nobody had to look at them if they didn't want to - which, ultimately, would hurt overall understanding of the systems at work. Really, if anyone used the Search function to see if there was already a thread on CE prices - or pets, or expanding the Guildhall, and so on - the signal/noise ratio would swing wayyyy back up, but that's forums for you.
I'm going to have to disagree with you, Effrul. A separate subforum would give the people that would like to understand the energy economy a more focused arena for discussion. There are people that DO want to discuss it, and not having anywhere except for General Discussion to do so hurts our potential to even begin to form a knowledge base. A separate subforum would pull the erudites who DO want to understand together, as opposed to the somewhat ... disorganized state that General Discussion has. "That's forums for you" is a bit of a catch-22 statement, really, because other games have forum structures that separate discussion into subforums - and this works in practice. Right now, we're just a bunch of unwrangled forumgoers.
@Skorph, @Eurydice: Probably a feedback subforum, really? There's a huge difference between just "feedback" and "suggestions" - the former addresses compliments/complaints to the current state of the game; the latter applies to new additions and the creative side of things. Don't get me wrong, nick's made an attempt at feedback threads in the Arsenal section!
But I feel something like that would have been better executed if:
- There was a feedback subforum with threads by nick asking people about the current balance state of the weapon types
- Or if the Arsenal subforum was further divided into General, Sword, Bomb, and Gun, and he made threads in those subforums.
--- Or just three stickied threads in the Arsenal subforum.
--- Heck, even with the current forum structure, stickying admin/devteam-created posts like that would improve the visibility of things a lot. Or ways to distinguish from regular players and staff members and role (Rednames, badges, titles, etc.)
Here's how it works:
- There is the General forum. People complain about stuff in General all the time, because they're talking about the game, and talking about things you don't like in the game is part of that.
- There is the Suggestions forum. This is pretty much where the bulk of complaining gets done, because it's the forum that is specifically for talking about stuff that is wrong with the game.
- There is LiveJournal, if you just want to kvetch about how your parents just don't understand.
I understand that it's frustrating that, in defiance of conventional mathematics, more than 100% of Suggestions threads are "wahh CE is too expensive", and a goodly amount of General traffic is "wahh CE is too expensive" with a side order of "wahh I gave all my pretend money away to a scam artist" and "wahh I got banned and do not believe I deserved it." Those threads are still more useful than this one.
