Hello fellow knights,
Some of you know me as Chawkthree, that guy who makes Spiral Knights gear demonstrations and other informational Sk videos. I just wanted my subscribers to know that I did not have a say in the termination of my channel, Chawkthree SK. YouTube decided to close down my channel and along with it all of the years of videos that I've created. I believe the channel deletion to be an error on YouTube's part, and I've contacted the Google Accounts team about the issue. Thanks for all of the support you've given me over the years, and hopefully I can continue to provide you with content in the years to come. I'll update this post with additional information as it flows in. :{

Update: The account has been reinstated. :)

That really sucks, your videos are a great asset to the community. Really hope the channel is restored. What's the reason they're terminating it, if I may ask?

I received my first community guidelines related strike about a month ago. I thought nothing of the strike and decided to wait the six months until it expired. About four days ago I decided to upload a new video, but the custom thumbnail option was disabled because of the strike. I like using the custom thumbnails as a way to give viewers a more accurate and better designed representation of my video's content. I decided to appeal the strike so I could get the custom thumbnails feature back. This morning I received a denied response to the strike appeal, and along with it I also got a channel suspension. Both of the emails came in at 11:00 am, and to my knowledge an unsuccessful appeal should not result in a channel suspension. The whole ordeal has me feeling a little queasy. :[

Huh.

What was the first strike about? Might give a bit more insight to youtube either acting dumb or something - if you're willing to state what it was on the forums here.

And I agree, I don't think appealing a strike should get your account suspended - if anything it should just deny appealing to the same strike again. Definitely try to get in contact with youtube/google over that - a phone call may work better than an email if you can get a real person on the line.

@Chawkthree: Is it possible

@Chawkthree: Is it possible you infringed upon the copyright violations agreement? Maybe there was a brand in one of your videos that promoted the strike. Anyway, that's disappointing. Tell your haters to stop flagging your videos.

It is possible you have used music without permission.

The strike was on a video in which I showed viewers a website where they could complete surveys to earn Amazon giftcards(really old video). YouTube may have flagged it for spam, but the title and content of the video were not misleading in any way. I still use the website to earn gift cards, and it's a well known site that actually works and doesn't fill your computer with spyware or junk emails. The funny thing is that I actually warned people about using scam sites and other options that offered free gift cards. Regardless, I didn't expect the appeal to actually be researched into. I know that most of Youtube's systems are automated, and the staff probably don't have a lot of time to actually fact check information relayed in videos. I'm just surprised that an appeal made them suspend me. The same time stamp on the rejected appeal and account suspension is the reason why I think that the two are related.

If you included music in your videos it might be because of that. A lot of the copyright violation system for youtube is highly automated and processes background audio against a database of music. Talk to a google support employee, they might be able to understand your side and override the automated crap.

Eh

See when it comes to copyright, you don't have your account suspended - instead you get your video monetized (all money going to the owner of the music), your video taken down, or your video is monetized and unavailable in some countries - typically germany. Unless Chawk had multiple copyright violations all reported at once, and the owner of the music didn't want the music published out there, then it wouldn't suspend their account. If the music owner wants their music promoted they just get ad revenue from the video.

I know most of this from experience as old videos of mine have been through the ongoing WMG "WHAT'S A YOUTUBE" cycle.

YouTube may have flagged it for spam, but the title and content of the video were not misleading in any way
If anything, if there was a link in the description of the video that tried to lead to this sort of thing then YouTube may have automatically flagged the website as spam or something, regardless of how well it works. I know there are plenty of channels with videos that claim free stuff, don't have any video, then just have a description with a link in it to "download" the thing. YouTube may be trying to take measures against that automatically? I don't know.

Again, highly recommend calling in and seeing where you can get from there.

As far as I can tell there isn't a phone number for Google Accounts or YouTube, the two departments that I would need to chat with. I have contacted the Google Accounts team via their contact form though. The comments section of the form was limited to 1,000 characters, that allowed for a lot more detail than the strike appeal box. Thanks for all of the suggestions and insight. :)

It's a start!

Glad to... Well, kinda help at least. Since it's still a Google service you might be able to contact them through Google's phone number.
Speaking of which, quick google search made me find this: https://gethuman.com/phone-number/YouTube - give that a try if you need to.

Dang dude, I really loved your videos and honestly I wouldn't be where I am today without them (seriously!). It's a shame, hopefully it was just an error and everything works out! I'll be looking forward to a new video if everything does actually work out. /wink
