Explain Anti-Minerals to me.

This is the thing that I feel like is really irritating me with the whole gate construction thing. Two top minerals is easy to understand and act on, but how the anti-minerals work just bothers me. Is it just completely random what it turns it into when the Anti-mineral becomes 3rd highest, or does it take 3rd and 4th to make the new gate, or what?

a well.. if a stratum is is about to become what you hate the most.. just throw in the anti-mineral..
If it ends up at the third place, the stratum becomes somthing different.. if you have enough anti-minerals, it might end up in second place and you have constructed another stratum insted :D
I acctually do this.. saves a crap-load of minerals so I can counter the ones I dont like :P
Have done so a few times, and it works.

It used to look like it
It used to look like it became the stratum corresponding to the top mineral plus the anti mineral (i.e. when the anti is in 3rd place, the 2nd place mineral is ignored).
Riiiiiiiight after I noticed this pattern and posted it to the forum, the next several Anti-mineral'd strata stopped corresponding to this pattern.
So either it was changed to be random, or it was random all along and I made a fool of myself picking out a pattern that arose from coincidences. :(
