Hmm, so the other day, I heard one of my gm's in the guild Tree Sloth Gang
Uparallelled, one of the richest spiral knights
Said that a darkfang shield was recently sold for around 15 million crowns

I dont know if it is true (probably is, cause who knows how many friends he has)

If these rumors are still true, then there are some t3 decon. zones to farm in my near future :P (yes i know theyre EXTREMELY RARE), but hey, someone may get lucky.

Yes, I know they can only be found in the treasure boxes, but Id like to hear where this guy found his.

Might be an older player leaving or otherwise selling theirs.

Let's bust the myth

It is TRUE that a Darkfang shield was sold recently; in fact 3 in total in the last month. But they're not "new" shields, they've been passed down rich players for a few years. How do I know? 2 of these shields were bought by my guildmates, the 3rd one was sold by a friend.
The price tag Unparalleled gave is also wrong; also they usually sell in CE, not crowns.

There's no recent data for a Darkfang shield drop, there hasn't been in at least 2 years.
If you're doubting the credibility of my claims, I invite you to lookout for a certain 2 Petrichor members. As for the friend who's selling, he's selling none other than Hellohippo's Darkfang shield, and being a hippo myself I just know better about this specific 3rd shield. Hell, I was looking to buy it.

I do not doubt the validity of your data. You appear to know wayyyy more merchants than I do, and I get the vibe that the sheilds can no longer be found

@Neometal I believe unparalleled told us that he has over 1 billion crowns spread over the AH, and 15 accounts... His main account has bout 52 million on it at all times. just sayin....

No problem, just filling up on the information gap.
It's widely believed that Darkfang shields aren't obtainable anymore; one version of the story says it was only available up until 9 monthes after the end of beta (till early 2012); I can't provide evidence and can't be certain but I did see one person in French haven claim he'd just found a Darkfang shield and that was in 2013. It's really hard to tell because Darkfang is so insanely rare, and with a decreasing population, it gets even less likely to be ever found again (if it can still be obtained). IF YOU FIND ONE THOUGH POST RIGHT AWAY, LET THE WORLD KNOW!!!

Just quickly on Unparalleled; first of all there isn't the equivalent of 1 billion crowns spread over the AH, not today, not at anytime, ever. The AH averages 100-150 pages of items (20 per page), many of which are materials and 2-3* equipments. That never adds up to 1 billion, ever (that would imply the average item on AH has a 300k cr+ buyout, don't think I need to prove why that's not possible).
Having 50m cr is possible, that amounts to about 550k CE. Judging from the wikis Unparalleled seems barely over a year old in SK (and I believe it to be true since I definitely haven't seen him prior to last year).

It's definitely possible to make that much within a year; my only comment here would be that profiting that much requires a certain "momentum", understand it needs time to build up character and funds before managing any sales. Unparalleled also is widely known in the LD community for spamming Sparks of Life. What I'm getting at basically is : Pay to play.

I'd take extreme caution with the information Unparalleled supplies; he doesn't ever seem to tell (or rather make up) facts innocently. There seems to be a little cult going on around his surroundings, and I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble but it's widely propaganda (that works in games too believe!). Overachieving players generally don't go around shouting it at every window; this looks more like an ego trip than anything.

Remember that all item drops stopped after the battle sprite update (end of july 2013), and resumed about a year or so later, however much rarer than before. Someone found a regal node slime wall somewhere so it is probably possible to find a darkfang shield, however with so little incidents and data points we have no idea if it can be influenced or not, not to mention if they are still in the drop table.

Bottom line is assume a darkfang shield being sold around has been around for years. Any new one will need to be documented.

I dont have a screenshot (but there are witnesses)
tinkering gremlins needed the guild hall fixed after a certain grief, and kingtinkinzar asked (I think it was atalanta) if the darkfang shield was obtainable, the GM said it was (I dont remember the exact words though)

@uberer I think there are 13 darkfang shields in existence, and tink knows 7 people who own one and still play
