I guess I'll make the thread as nobody else has.

  • What are your thoughts and opinons?
  • Are 000 really going to make all of the stones?
  • How about a mineral themed box instead? I would be down for a crimsonite craze.
  • Also, we must prepare for bullying small pumpkins and take their candy.

Birthstones pretty much confirmed, but...

See, we had sapphire, peridot, and ruby, and they match with Moonstone, Valestone, and Crimsonite already. Since we have Opal now, it's safe to say they're doing birthstones, though my speculation is that it might also be rock salt.

/shrug

It wouldn't be healthy to make three or four birthstone boxes and then quit, and as such I don't really mind the gem box promos. Though I can picture the devs cringing a little bit whenever they submit them due to the torrent of hate mail the steam page is gonna recieve. No matter what they put out someone's gonna hate them for it.
Only thing I would change is to make the Gem costumes and accessories reflective like the crown and wings instead of matte. Shiny recolors>dull recolors.

My thoughts and opinions haven't really changed since the last jewel box. The color scheme and contents of the box in general are pretty nice and that's a decent reason to buy into it if you want that specific color/the opal applied to the accessories within. I really can't see this box generating too much hype though, for the obvious reason that it's like the 5th time we've seen it.. just now it's a different color.

Are OOO really going to make all of the stones? They kind of have to now that they've started. As for minerals, I think that's a great idea. I'd love to see the ruinous crystal made into all sorts of colors, as well as possibly more mineral themed gear.. Like if they made a new mineral based brandish reskin- where valestone = obsidian edge, moonstone = glacius, etc.

If I were them, I'd put the stones on the back burner somewhat. As an example-

Proposed October Prize Box Schedule:
October 1st through 31st: Opal Prize Box!
October 1st through 15th: Autumn Prize Box!
October 16th through 31st: Some sort of non-prize box promotional event; flash sales, auctions...

@Midnight-Dj

This song was actually fairly decent, due to how short and readable it was. I still don't understand 100% what you're saying but I did read all of it and understood about 70% of the message so kudos to you.

EDIT:

After reading the steam comments I understand it completely and it's hilarious. Good job.

Meh

Opal color scheme really... Doesn't look all that attractive. The thing about these birthstone promos is that they work really well with certain personal colors, and really terribly with most everything else. Light, warm colors might work for this promo, such as magenta and red, maybe orange, but as a yellow represent I can't say it looked good on me.

Pale red, pale green, bone-yellow just don't really look that pleasing. Heck, the palish green personal color used in the promo art doesn't even look too great... But I'm sure it'll fill a niche somewhere so it's fine to have around.

the color

opal (not including the accessories with the actual gem) is basically autumn but lighter, just adding a white tint seems really lazy for a consecutive promo

.....

From the start I had hoped that the Gemstone boxes would come with shiny reflective textures (instead we get flat colors).

So far the only real "new" stuff are the floating gems and auras, everything else is just recolored models.

We don't even get things like item reskins or CE with prize boxes....... Even something as simple as making reskins of Flourish, Valiance, and Shard bombs with crystal colors would have been nice.

I certainly hope OOO has a big update up their sleeves that they are working on, but since they don't tell us we can only speculate about the future and grumble about the present.

I'm fine with just reskins

Certain reskins aren't really going to reach out to me... But typically something that stands out is better. Vivid colors or things that clash in a really neat way are great. Vile didn't look too great on me until I got ahold of some peridot accessories... Now the peridot stuff makes a great bridge between the yellow personal color and the more leaf green that the costume has by being a light green color. It was really cool for me to see colors I'd never think would look good on me suddenly look great!

That being said, I just can't see how opal would bridge anything of this sort. For one, you have complementary colors - red and green. For two, none of the colors is vivid or stands out to be the accent of the costume, making our own personal color forced into being the accent, and if you get too many colors, then it just looks aesthetically crazy.

These sort of promos are fine and dandy, and I do appreciate them covering everyone's birthstones (I'm a January baby so you can bet I'll drop $20 on that month! That plus it'll be a nice warm colorscheme that should fit in with my personal color), however we probably could have just stuck with more limited colors.

Glacial I didn't really like because of the conflicting colors either, however you could pick to accent the frosty blue pretty easily, or try to stand out with the bronze/orange... The third color, the gray, was the background color that you ignored...
With opal there is no color to ignore. The primary color, the bone-yellow, is the easiest to overlook, and it's most of the costume.

I guess I'm just disappointed with the prize box because it has ugly colors to me. However if anyone can put together a really good looking costume with these parts I would love to change my mind.
Personally I see opal being more desired after pearl and diamond are released, as they could likely be mixed with each other to create something neat.

Eh

The color scheme makes me think of ranch dressing... which is something I don't want to think about unless I got a plate of chicken wings infront of me.

Dj's reference game is on point

Kinda makes me think of a lighter-colored Military theme, tbh.

Might have potential.

I like these sort of promotions, to be honest, as they appeal to a particular trait of some players, and that is the month they were born. Other games (at least from the one's I've played, so I wouldn't know too much) really don't do this sort of thing, and instead rely on having players stand out by whatever means necessary. Outside of this game's limited options for what they can do for them, I think that this is a nice thing to have on a monthly basis. It's not something totally new, or fresh, but it is something that can cater to certain players. Heck, if they do continue with the birthstone promotions, I'll gladly sink in some money for a fistful of diamonds in April.

Could they try to do something different as each promotion rolls out? Yes, even if it's something as simple as introducing new possible personal colors that can go along with the birthstone promotion of that month. I wouldn't even mind wearing armor made out of diamonds (could try making some parts of a Spiral Culet reinforced with diamonds, for instance, while other parts are gray/silver/white), but I will admit it, reusing the wings, auras, and twinkle-twinkle eyecandy is going to get old, and fast. The color-schemed costumes are a staple for many promotions, but I would love to see something more... eyepopping, something that makes each promotion stand out for the most part, whether it's unique costume armor, colors, or accessories besides floating gems.

If diamonds are a thing to come around, I would love for the Team Neutral (White) color or a silver-like color to be obtainable from the boxes.

On a positive note, Opal is

On a positive note, Opal is the first color scheme ever to go almost perfectly with the Authentic Scarab Mask. Strongly recommend for fashion enthusiasts.

Really?

I suppose the bone-yellow could kinda match, but the scarab mask has so many colors going on with it I'm not sure I can visualize it without actually seeing it myself. I recall it having some dusky-bits on the back, which wouldn't really match the opal's faded colors.

If it's not too much to ask, if someone could post a screenshot of that I'd be grateful.

I think it looks ugly and why was it described as colorful?
Look at the home page. It says that.

Oooh I see

Ah I see. It's not actually that good of a deal, but the fact that you have a purple personal color bridges the gap between dusky purple and the armor.

It looks pretty terrible in any other personal color... But hey, personal color is as important of a choice for these sort of costumes. I have a "goat" costume that doesn't look good in any other personal color that I've seen, which is odd because the yellow is a hard counter to the blue everywhere... But it just looks wrong in any other color.

The opal shiny accessories

The opal shiny accessories look like some delicious birthday cake. Though the dull opal costumes kind of look like vomit. I think the birthstone idea is fairly decent though, the wings and floating gems are neat if nothing else. Better than nothing I guess.

Idk what you people are expecting, there will never be a fully redeeming update. You should have realized that a long time ago....

Eh

I don't know about you, but I've felt the post-vanguard missions to be a fairly redeeming update. Wherever we go from here will continue to be a redeeming update, however first we need to get that update and all that.
However I agree, at this point, there's no single update that will "save the game", as you doomsayers would say - that is to say, no single update will bring content that will keep everyone entertained until the end of times. Several things would increase the lifespan of the game tremendously (custom content, horde mode, level editor, etc), however we shouldn't expect anything more than what we already have, or whatever has been announced.

There will be new missions for sure, so what lol it'll just keep the game slightly more active for what, 2 or 3 days? Doesn't matter anyway.
