I'm new to the game, and I'm currently going through rank 3-1 quests. I've heard things like the Morai Wars and Alpha Squad being tossed around in conversations with characters, and I'm curious. Is there any official lore behind this game, or are we left to speculation?
Can I find more about the story by clearing more quests, or is there nothing revealed?
The subject surrounding the Spiral Orders' homeworld and its history is a very fascinating one to me, and I'm itching to find out.

obligatory
Try searching Google (or Yahoo or DuckDuckGo or whatever --- but not the forum's built-in search) for strings like lore site:forums.spiralknights.com. You will find many old threads.
And there's a little bit of information on the wiki here.
Enjoy.

oh, also
you can search things on the wiki, it has all the exactly stated information with no personal bias
if you do search the forums, stay out of the treasure vault (its mostly fan lore only)
and use the wiki as your main basis for your own theories
Morai war is pretty much mentioned only in the trailer. No one really knows if Morai are renegade Spiral Knights or another alien race, to avoid spoilers, as you reach higher ranks, the fate of Alpha squad will be revealed.
Sadly if you want to know the back ground history of Isora, then there is little this game could offer, it is pretty open ended.
But below is the fan lore I compiled in my past three years spent here, read it if you want, but they aren't cannon.
Isora, a planet drifted in the peaceful void of the universe. In space, its green, seemingly calm surface dashed with large bodies of ocean made it looked like a cradle for great civilizations. Yet those who inhabited it, were caught in a century long strive, as Spiral Confederacy, a dictatorial governmental body that sought to unite the nations on Isora under one rule used brutal tactics against the people of Isora. Nuclear weapons, streams of propaganda and even biological warfare, in the end, with an iron fist, the Spiral Confederacy was able to bring what was left of the nations into its grasp.
After decades of brain wash, censorship and political assassinations, much of what Isora once was were all but forgotten, never to be relearned. Its people became slaves robbed of their language, beliefs and histories, as the bureaucrats of the Spiral Confederacy laughed and grown fat on the lifeblood of Isoran people. A new resistance group emerged to defy the rules of the confederacy, their name was the Sons of Isora.
With its founding came a group of aspiring young men and women, Eurydice, Aphrodite, Oceanus, Atlanta, Hyperion and many more. They infiltrated the upper echelon of the Spiral Confederacy and destroyed the corrupted governmental body from within, for many days, the masses panicked as the government they were so accustomed to was destroyed overnight, when the members of the Sons of Isora emerged from the shadow, they renamed themselves, the Spiral Order. They quickly salvaged the remnant of the confederacy officials and created a temporary government until a new world order could be established.
The chance of starting anew was soon squandered as the Sons of Isora started infighting, they were split into two side, one side wanted to bring power to the people and start a democratic government, while the other side wanted to become a more sophisticated version of the Spiral confederacy while pulling strings from the shadow. In the end, neither side fulfilled their goals as years came and went, the original members of the Sons of Isora were all perished, either by assassins sent by their one time comrades or due to old age. With its once promising leaders gone, the Spiral Order fell to a state of entropy. Many leaders will rise but soon fall as the people of Isora stared into the abyss that was total anarchy.
After years of internal conflicts and rebellion. Spiral knights' home planet of Isora was at her knees. The planet can no longer sustain its population and admiral Ozlo shepherded what was left of the Isoran orbital fleet to a distant galaxy hundreds of light years away from Isora, to an alien planet named Ruia. Their goal was simple, Isora's planet core was depleted of energy and a new planet's energy core must be sacrificed to revive Isora. Like a knight could be revived with a spark of life, Isora too could be saved in the same fashion.
But as they approached the Alien planet Ruia, they were attacked by the planet's inhabitant, the Morais, Ruia was also ruled by a tyrannical emperor, Dues Aradama, who twisted the Morai genome, mutating them into mindless servants of his depraved dreams of galactic conquest. Upon making planet fall, the Spiral knight marines found themselves jammed in a brutal onslaught with a legion of genetically engineered Morai super soldiers. Despite the fire support from the fleet's warships, the spiral knights could not crack the defenses of the Morai capital city.
Slowly loosing the war of attrition and his irreplaceable capital ships, Ozlo dispatched the Iron wolves, an elite teams of operatives to assassinate the Morai emperor in a last ditch attempt to break the stalemate. The iron wolves battled their way into the imperial palace before facing down the mighty Dues Aradama, despite team rookie Desna's heroic effort in slaying the mad emperor, the victory came at a terrible prize, every iron wolves except for Desna had died during the engagement, she later on established the recon rangers in remembrance of her lost comrades.
Much to Ozlo and all of his advisers' dismay, the Morai legion fought on and eventually pushed the Spiral knights off from the planet surface. It was bloody retribution for the death of their emperor, whose influence still lingered on.
Upon knowing that the admiral ordered the use of capital weaponry in order to eradicate the Morai race, Ozlo's female vice-admiral, Biscotti, went on a mutiny to persuade Ozlo not to commit holocaust. But it was too late, Ozlo looked into the mirror and all he saw was the Morai emperor, grinning indiscriminately at the slaughter he had committed on Ruia. After arresting Biscotti and demoting her to a chef on board a smaller cruiser named Skylark, Ozlo ordered the extermination of planet Ruia for costing him so much men and materials.
Desna, knowing that Ozlo was insane, sabotaged his flag ships reactor core and ruined any chance of Ozlo taking planet Ruia's core. The Morai race was saved from extermination, but Isora was doomed as Ozlo witnessed his flag ship smashed into Ruia's planet surface and the rest of his fleet decimated by the Morai planetary defenses. Only Skylark managed to escape from the massacre.
Vowed to destroy Desna, Ozlo engaged the iron wolf rookie in mortal combat at the crash site of his flag ship. After a grueling duel, Desna spared Ozlo's life when she was informed by Kora that Skylark's captain died from a missile attack and the only person who had any experience in commanding a large cruiser like Skylark was none other than Ozlo himself, the last remaining captain of the fleet. Again, fate cackled at the Admiral's misery.
The rest, was history, both Desna and Ozlo denied the past at the faces of new born knights. The dark deeds of Ruia campaign shall never pass their lips and the Spiral Order will forever remain as the righteous defenders of Isora in the children's memory. Ozlo knew fully that if he tried to kill Desna, she would certainly spill out his bloody past and drag him down to the firing squad with her, and Vice Versa. In this grim dark world, the universe knew only war... cradle shall be both our heaven and our hell, this is, our outer heaven.
